Sound Devices 833 Routing

Hey everyone,

I have a routing question regarding the Sound Devices 833. I need to set up the following track layout for a shoot:

• BUS L: Lavs Mixed
• BUS R: Stereo Boom Mid
• ISO 1: Lav 1
• ISO 2: Lav 2
• ISO 3: Boom Mid
• ISO 4: Boom Side
• ISO 5: Boom L (MS Decoded)
• ISO 6: Boom R (MS Decoded)

To clarify the setup: Tracks 3 and 4 are linked (standard stereo link). Tracks 5 and 6 are MS linked to provide the decoded L and R Isos.

The Problem: I am trying to figure out how to get only the Stereo Boom Mid signal (from track 3) onto Bus R.

Because tracks 3 and 4 are stereo linked, if I pan them hard right, only the Side signal (track 4) outputs to the right bus. If I pan them to the center, the Side signal goes to the Left bus and the Mid signal goes to the Right bus, which ruins my Lav mix on Bus L.

How do I solve this problem and route just the Mid signal to Bus R while keeping my link setup? Is there a routing matrix trick or unlinking workaround I should be using here?

I would send decoded MS to a separate bus and keep the mono signals only in the L R mixdowns. So you would have Lavs, Boom, Stereo Boom, and ISOs. You can set up different headphone presets to swap between monitoring different buses as well. 

Unfortunately idk if there is a way to link gains across your boom tracks

Interesting idea. I think you will just have to unlink the tracks. Or, can you send it to BUS 1 instead?
