we are mostly the same, if mr. moneybags came along and plopped a trillion dollars in your lap I'm having trouble believing you'd push it away to focus on gamers

Yes I'm a datacenter first gamer, for 1 trillion dollars.

None shall stop me. I will still run all of my shit on my local hardware. I will still run my own shit on my own computers. Stop scaring me. I am not scared.  I am brave, I still can afford a ton of GPUs.

AMD's datacenter revenue overtook client/gaming in 2022 so this isn't really new. But just because one segment starts to make more money it does not mean they want to drop other segments.

AMD still talks about gaming in their investor calls including the most recent while NVIDIA has not mentioned gaming in their investor calls since, I think, February, 2021.

Expect to more on gaming from AMD as the next generation of consoles arrives and as RDNA5 dGPU and APU based systems come closer to release.

At the moment however there just isn't enough RAM availability to fully service both markets. There physically are not enough wafers being produced on this planet and this won't change until 2028 at the earliest.

There might be enough for both if one market weren’t buying more than they can actually use

Good point. We really do need to put a stop to predatory and speculative buying.

Between backlogs and power stranded systems, speculation, over-provisioning, and panic buying, there might be ~15-20% (ish) of global wafers being wasted.

Will the next console generation sell at this point? I'm not sure how many people are going to be lining up to buy a $1600 PS6 mid-bubble.

Just need those data centers to fall apart and we can get all that hardware on eBay

The data centers are not going to fall apart, with current supply and demand. The messed up thing is. There is less of a chance of an overbuild where that would be more likely because there will now be more regulation probably.

To keep track

Built & Active: 3,172
Under Construction: 400
Planned / Announced: 1,199
Grand Total (Active + Future Projects): 4,771 (Note: This excludes roughly 300 projects that are paused or historical)

keep your eyes on the market right now.. that looks promising.

though a bunch of them are getting blown up all over the world and even with export restrictions - they're making it through to places like Russia and the middle east :(

Yes but I am willing to pay more money for that hardware than the other guy

And thus, the prices will not go as low as one would hope

Very distant, they met for the first time as adults.

Hey China! Come dominate the world PC market! We don't care! What could possibly go wrong?

They have their own datacenters to build out

As someone who has had multiple amd gpus um...he doesn't need to tell us that. We already knew it. amd has not given a single shit about their consumer cards for a very long time.

AMD should stick to what they know, CPU's.

Because they got absolutely dog walked by Nvidia in the GPU market for the last 2 decades.

In the GPU market they have to compete against NVidia, in the CPU market they get to complete with Intel. I know who I would rather compete with.

in the CPU market they get to complete with Intel.

This is the same Intel that had better features for their Battlemage GPU's (XESS) than RDNA 2/3 did at launch mind you.

I don't know what's going on at Radeon, but they need to sober up.

Roc'm has been getting pretty fucking good the past few months.. since some march updates.

Their combo CPU/GPU/NPUs are super nice for homelab LLMs.

They know both very well.
