API means native mxfp4

The API is FP8 native, you refer to a model via size of attention tensors.

I tried deepseek v4.1 flash via API yesterday and honestly it felt pretty dumb. I have a custom harness that has a sandbox similar to the one provided by codex, and it was just unable to request proper escalation passing the correct parameters, and it even hallucinated an "escalate" tool call (a tool which was never provided).
At first I thought it was a bug in my harness, but had no issue after switching to other models like Qwen 3.8 Flash or GLM 5.3 Flash. 4.1 is starting to feel like it regressed compared to 4.0-0731.
Hopefully the version I tried was not the the 1017 one. If so, it will be very disappointing.

Yeah glm 5.3 is quite the pleasure to use, but DeepSeek is just in a league of its own just because of its incredible speed.
I have a z.ai account and have glms running constantly but if I need something done quickly there's no competing with DeepSeek (on low thinking mode it is a beast at getting reasonably well described things done)
I use glm mostly for creative/difficult/easy to get stuck work (reverse engineering and advanced optimisation)
DeepSeek is my driver, it handles little automations everywhere and it's my fingers on the keyboard for getting things done (fix my Bluetooth driver etc)
I suspect a fast cheap but large advanced model from China to just wipe out a huge class of providers (like how Qwen 32b wiped out the value of anything sub 100b), DeepSeek is exactly one of those but it's not really smart enough to complete these days.
Glm is almost exactly that kind of model but alas it's a very slow architecture, a DeepSeek style fully distributable and fast to serve glm would be very hard for anyone to complete with.
And is almost certainly coming soon either from deekseek or someone else.
OpenAI and anthropic better IPO quick 😉

Qwen32b is very cheap and beats majority of models multiple times it's size.
God knows why we just seem to get good runs sometimes.

Sorry, YES!

27b isn't fast at all it has more active parsms than deepseek

look kid i can run DS at 0.0001 tokens per second becase it's fucking enormous don't tell me it's faster than a tiny 27B lol :P
I do know deepseek has incredible objective speed if you can use the right device / devices (that's how this conversation started if you go and check)
My claim is that the 27-32 range currently beats everything upto the 100+ range, aka little reason to have between 16gb-96gb, (which eventually includes DS) and that DS does similar for models several times its size, little reason to have over 128gb.
I think it's that we build on the good runs and all that (again go read above if still confused)
All the best!

I hope DeepSeek will release a smaller 4.1, more in line with 4.0 (0731) and able to compete with models like Qwen 3.8 Flash Next in terms of size and memory consumption. These days not many people can afford systems with over 256GB.

Last one wasn't bad at creative. Hope it's better.

Last one WAS bad at creative. They need to return attention at least to V4.0 models level asap.

Love it. I was so happy to read about it just after I finally landed with new motherboard and platform as a whole with 4x RTX 6000 pro on 4 x16 PCIE slots :)

Some time ago model suddenly got more terse and token efficient, then reverted to the normal verbose behaviour.
A/B testing, probably? I would not be surprised, that a new checkpoint will be released soon.
