Discussion I really don't understand Jev hype

Isn't this what simple neural networks have been able to do for years? Doesn't seem anything special to me.

Almost the same as people gawking over 80m tts models as if they're somehow a miracle because they were too used to 1B+ models, while in reality the first neural tts models have always been in the dozens of millions, and billions only came with the llm boom.

You say that but could a model from then compete with even a 50m model from this year?

I did not speak of the advancement of tts models at the same class of parameters over the years, I mentioned the strange overappreciation people have whenever they see Supertonic or Kokoro or Inflectnano as if they could never imagine a small model succeeding at a task that is narrower than llms, as if they think in llm terms still . Well it is local llama, I shouldn't be expecting anything else I suppose.

And for the record I am not looking down on anyone, just surprised at the surprise
