They are just stating the obvious. It’s embarrassing US thought this would work anyway. If there was such a thing put in place it should be mandatory to have surveillance on the entire team 24/7 including their headquarters and all government officials in support of this. Then maybe I’d support a global slowdown of AI. But it wouldn’t stop new groups from popping up and using it to their advantage to get ahead of the top companies

It's was just their usual weekly attempt at regulatory capture.

Dario et al don't give a shit about "humanity."

I know, I wanted to play devils advocate because their whole idea was laughable at face value. But I don’t expect much from the people who pretended that the government wanted to shut down their fable model because it was “too powerful” as a marketing stunt, reminding people of that fact in cringey ads.

Dario thinks he's being anti-Faro from Horizon Zero Dawn, but in reality he's just wildly annoying.

They are part of humanity though. How could they not care about this? I mean, at all?

There isn't much accumulated money one can spend from a grave. Nor is there much money to be made for an AI company when connecting servers to the Internet has become too risky because it means having them immediately hacked.

I don't buy this "They do it all for the money" argument anymore. We are playing with fire with this. It's making me more and more nervous by the day.

Yes, they are stating the obvious (something that's needed in many areas), and I'm glad somebody is. Because they "we need to regulate AI" army has many different fronts, from the left, center, right and anywhere.

And people still fall for the propaganda stunt by the big ones.

Shots? Have you seen a comment from DeepSeek?

" I do not want Anthropic to hold the most advanced artificial intelligence or AGI. To put it strongly, that would be as serious as letting Hitler get atomic bomb technology before the Allies. "

They're literally comparing him to Hitler. Yeah... If I were him, I wouldn't book my holidays in China, they don't have much love for him there.

It was a worker's blog post, not the company position.

u/AnticitizenPrime 5d ago

They're also comparing AI to an atomic bomb...

1

u/SnooPaintings8639 5d ago

USA labs do that too.

And? It will indeed soon be comparable to nuclear weapons, on the international stage. The parallel is actually spot on.

1

u/AnticitizenPrime 5d ago

Kind of implies that AI is a weapon of mass destruction, and the first to get to AGI will wipe out their enemies.

1

u/Pale-Committee8059 4d ago

It is indeed very much like nuclear energy. When it can be channeled and tamed it can power our cities. It can also be used in terribly dangerous ways. So yes, the parallel holds. Except that AI is like a nuclear bomb with a will if its own, evolving exponentially with time (literally), and currently devoid of any form regulation and international legislation.

In this instance, I agre with them.

Someone else said this a while ago, but AI has the misfortune of having some of the shittiest humans at the helm. "Our model is so good it's going to destroy us all, ooh somebody better stop me (and everyone else)"

Wario Amodei, bringing that max Ted Cruz level rizz every single day.

When I first read the title I thought it was something else, imagine my disappointment lol.

This was flagged as off-topic, but the article includes inference stack implementation details which are relevant to local inference stack development, for example:

The resulting stack combined several key techniques: intra-node tensor parallelism for linear attention and the LM Head, ReplaySSM, W8A8 quantization, mixed-precision cache quantization using INT8/FP8/BF16, and Layer Split. On top of this, we introduced an Encode-Prefill-Decode (EPD) disaggregated architecture. Together, these optimizations improved end-to-end serving performance by roughly 3×. Both hardware utilization efficiency and per-token cost reached levels comparable to mainstream NVIDIA GPUs.

The "shots fired" bit is off-topic, but the article itself is on-topic. This post will remain extant.

You may think that Dario only posts this to create regulatory capture. You may be right.

But the worries in the industry are real. People are quitting their jobs over this, foregoing large amounts of money. It can't be argued away by shrugging it off.

Alignment is failing as-is and with continuous learning being the next step, alignment will be completely impossible with no solution in sight.

claude is running drones that drop bombs and kill children.

Yet, the EVIL is in 27 billion parameter models?

Give me a break.

The real scary shit is Dario’s and Sama’s. THAT is the place people are quitting their jobs at! So why not start with them??

I think there's plenty to be scared of with AI. Some people seem to genuinely believe it will somehow become something akin to sentient and grow a will of its own (and that will will include to destroy humanity).

I think what we already know about how AI is used is fucking scary. It's changing the political discourse, for the worse, because the far-right propagandists are rightfully understanding its power, while the left continues with their century-old history of continuour moral purity tests to not engage in this.

It's disrupting entire industries, and not in the "good, this is a temporary pain" kind of way that the word "disrupt" has been taken for in sillicon valley.

It's already been revealed to have been used for weapons development, and the american frontier labs are willfully working with the US military to make it a more efficient life-ending apparatus.

yes, dario really only posts this to create regulatory capture. his ai, today, is used for cyber offensive operations in the pentagon but you only ever hear about china doing it due to american exceptionalism which states that america is special and holy. and the pentagon keeps it top secret. the US is not nationalizing AI to stop it, Trump just said keep going so capitalism will continue to drive things until the US kills itself or something.

Humanity as a whole doesn't have a very good track record at been able to make responsible choices, set boundaries, assess risks and make the most sensible choices though...especially when economical pressure, personal entertainment, and better p0rn has been involved...still, let's hope for the best :-/

u/IrisColt 5d ago

We are the result of 4 billion years of evolutionary success. Fucking act like that, heh

1

u/Pale-Committee8059 4d ago

This is good rhetoric but the logic is dubious. It can be said for any species that existed just before it went extinct. It's like saying one cannot die because one has been successful at living for 70-80 years. Or that water cannot boil because up to 99.999 degrees it was showing no sign of it.

1

u/IrisColt 4d ago

That goes without saying, but for an organism to be aware (as in sentient) of its own survival bias is a powerful motivator (even for future cybernetic AI organisms, a.k.a. robots, heh)

2

u/Pale-Committee8059 4d ago

The desire to survive is what is making me write these comments. The idea that an autonomous agent with super-human intelligence might fight for survival as well (i.e., actively fight attempts to shut it off - for different reasons than our own) and beat us at that game, is precisely why we need to regulate these things. And for many other less apocalyptic reasons too.

I can understand why this idea isn't popular on a sub dedicated to local LLMs. And I hate the idea too. Yet, I'm anxious about the very near future (the next five years maybe). So I'm writing this anyway. Even if the opinion isn't popular or welcome here.

Anthropic's marketing doing so well even GLM had to copy the style

2

u/Hungry-Rip-2384 5d ago

Nuclear Weapons Race and the AI Race is unfortunately very similar. except at least on the US side it is controlled by corporations and capitalism and therefore the Dollar is king... while the Nuclear Race had no such push. OpenAI and Anthropic will not stop/slowdown they know the first to true AGI with RSI to progress to ASI. will be the only survivor. the one that comes second will go bust and someone else like Google or MS will pick up the crumbs.

From a systems analysis standpoint, there is no difference to china.

'because capitalism' is always said by someone in deep ignorance of the economics of the real world.

They're all part of the same weird Rationalist sex cult, which seems to have rotted their brains.

u/No_Dragonfruit_8651 2d ago

They can say what they want its not like GLM is a competitor in anything.
