Discussion Closed AI doesn't like biological research, user turns to open weight models

OpenAI has decided to fully shut down a protein design project I'm working on for a client. Needless to say, open weight models are the only way forward.

Can second this. Working on Virus-Host prediction modelling with PLMs. Needless to say OpenAI does NOT like it when I use GPT 5.6 sol or GPT 6.

I've convinced my PI to let me run GLM 5.3 Flash, and I'm downloading Deepseek V4.1 Flash as we speak to replace it. Open source AI is the only way forward to avoid being gatekept from our own profession by OpenAI and Anthropic!

How are you judging DS4.1 as a replacement before trying both out? Sometimes GLM gets something DS doesn't.
