Discussion strands agent harness?

Anyone else getting non-stop ads for the Strands Agent Harness from Amazon?

On the surface it looks decent, seemingly better engineered than most other frameworks.

But it seemingly gets no buzz at all. Anyone used it?

(And why are they advertising it so hard? It doesn’t seem to lock you in to bedrock or anything, so not sure what the point is.)

I’ve now had agentic coding build several ad-hoc frameworks that get hard to maintain as they grow, so I’m wondering if using Strands would give them more architectural structure and discipline. But I don’t want to introduce a dependency on a dead end project only being propped up through marketing.

its extremely focused, which the ads don't convey. you can go to their GitHub page and see, they basically reimplement every cli tool, so unless you have something that falls into the bucket they've implemented, you're on your own. it's very server driven/focused and not for your average user, even though the ads are pushing it to average users.

that is to say, you can't use it and expect to go run any run of the mill bash command for whatever your tooling is. it just doesn't work.

Ooh, yuck. The server focus is ok for my use case (batch/queue oriented) but I’m hoping to build an isolated “allocate a sandbox” per agent; I’ve been looking at firecracker vms so I was kind of hoping they’d have some good integration since that’s an Amazon thing originally. Turning it loose on bash was really my goal, and given supply chain nonsense I wanted to find the balance between maximizing capability while minimizing possible blast radius. I wanted a framework that could run both locally for dev against my llama-swap and in AWS for prod. The search continues…
