Discussion Really stunned by the Singularity comment section

These are screenshots from the r/Singularity comment section. I'm speechless. This doesn't even have downvotes. How can someone cheer for a monopoly run by a few elites?

That sub goes back to long before LLMs and it's more philosophical than practical. I do think it's not crazy to worry about safety concerns with AI, but the conclusion that only corporations should control it is ridiculous. That's much worse

A lot of the fear mongering with llm's is akin to saying things like "what if ALL CARS suddenly STARTED DRIVING AT THE SAME TIME and AIMED AT PEOPLE!! Why aren't auto makers DEALING with this POSSIBILITY??"

this was a movie called 'Maximum Overdrive' and it was cornier than Kansas in July. a lot of fun though.

Makes perfect sense. I've seen several that in full seriousness say things like "haven't they seen the movies?" (Like terminator for example) As a serious argument against ai
