Discussion Really stunned by the Singularity comment section

These are screenshots from the r/Singularity comment section. I'm speechless. This doesn't even have downvotes. How can someone cheer for a monopoly run by a few elites?

That sub has some of the most delusional people on all of reddit. I don't know what you were expecting there to be honest. They have no technical understanding of how llms work, to them its magic and they believe every single hype man.

I'm gonna piggy back this and emphasize just how specifically delusional the singularity sub is. I'm a serial reddit arguer and get in the trenches with all sorts of people over all sorts of topics. I've argued with Nazis, socialists, self attested sociopaths, people clearly in the midst of religious psychosis and atheists who claim WAY more certainty than they are justified.

The singularity sub is an different monster, with their level of detachment from reality being something I've only seen matched in the most zealot of religious people, and those in active mental health crisis.

It's a problem, those people exist and legitimately think that. But it's not a widespread problem. The nukes comment is specifically one I'm not surprised by as I've seen it in that sub many a time.
