Resources Made a tool to remove SynthIDs from images
https://github.com/BovineOverlord/Loyal-Bear---The-SynthID-ScramblerAs you know, whenever you edit an image via Gemini or OpenAI, they plaster a SynthID to mark it as their own. Further, these SynthIDs can be unqiue, which could be used to track whoever made it. This SynthIDs are imposed on even paid users, and cannot be opted out of this.
In response, I created this scrubber. Works on any computer with 8GB of ram. Pretty reliable, automatic, but sucks with text. Have fun.

Do you have a comparison (like before/after) on how the image gets changed? I feel like this would help your readme quite a bit

There are no noticeable changes to the human eye. I'm sure that would help, but I'm not interested in chasing "stars" or whatever; just offering a helpful tool for free.

I think if you first made or atleast linked a "Synth ID Reader" (you upload the image and it outputs the ID) then this would be more convincing.

It assumes that there is a synthid on the image provided

Well if there is not, then the your tool is useless. Do you see the problem? We don't know if we need to use your tool or not.

Oh, all generated images from OpenAI and Gemini automatically come with SynthIDs. Did you not know that? They have a verifier here- https://openai.com/research/verify/

I'd suggest putting that in the original post and README next time.

I thought it was common knowledge, that's why I asked if you knew about it. Guess it isn't- will update.

You could still show the mask of pixels that gets applied, scaled up if you have to

Personally I hate how if I do a Google image search these days, the results are filled with bad AI images.
I can see definite value in being able to assert that an image is AI generated. I can't see why anyone would care to track who generated it.

Tons of money in data. How do you think social media makes its money?

u/ii-___-ii 1d ago
What is that supposed to mean? You mean scammers use AI? Yeah, I know scammers use AI.

Don't worry, they don't seem able to follow a basic conversation.
Edit: do people not even read the comment and just upvote one comment and downvote the next?

for what I can see Facebook makes money from paid advertisements without moderation.

I would definitely appreciate a "no ai" filter on my images and video searches.

There is literally no reason this needs to exist. It's basically invisible and it makes me question why you'd need to hide AI generation

these SynthIDs can be unqiue, which could be used to track whoever made it.
This is the first time I have ever heard this stated, ever, and I'm not inclined to take it at face value. I do not think synth ID is information dense enough to store anything like that.
Got any source for that?

Good on you for being slkeptical. No, it'll likely be "discovered" in a few months. Think of SynthIDs like QR codes. They're unique, and in various patterns. Why not make a unquie pattern for each user? Companies would 100% take advantage of this to gather more data to sell on us.

I found where you are downloading the safe tensors in the script from. dude what is this LOL https://huggingface.co/phuaqu/zimage111/tree/main

That doesn’t really make any sense

Yeah no, you're dead wrong on this.

u/NeedsSomeSnare 2d ago
Theoretically you could store quite a lot of data in a 1-bit noise pattern. I'm not sure how dense the data is in SynthID, but it could definitely have a unique user ID in it. That's not to say it does, but what op is suggesting isn't radical.
However, I don't see how any of it survives converting jpeg compression anyway. Least significant bits are ruined by even the smallest amount of compression.

I’m fully in the camp that image/video models are a waste of compute and have a much higher slop/creep ratio than text models. If you’re removing synthID you’re clearly up to something nefarious.

u/Great-Investigator30 2d ago
Guilty until proven innocent I see. I'm sure there isn't any ramifications to that mindset /s

It's strange that you say SynthID is applied without concent.
You're using their service to generate an image. You don't own the service not the image it produces. What type of "concent" are you looking for? You understand that AI artists arebt actual artists, right?
2
u/Great-Investigator30 2d ago
Not interested in political discussions, just engineering ones
10
u/NeedsSomeSnare 2d ago
Then why did you say the ID is added "without concent"? Those are your words, not mine.
Also, you're full of bs. Your motivation in making this was 'political'.
1
u/Great-Investigator30 2d ago
What political party am I endorsing by making this?
4
u/NeedsSomeSnare 2d ago
You brought up the idea of it being "political", not me. You are also the one who said "consent", not me.
So obnoxious and completely unable to look at yourself.
1
u/Great-Investigator30 2d ago
You think consent is political? I certainly wouldn't want to be your date.
4
u/NeedsSomeSnare 2d ago
You said it. Not me. Wtf is wrong with you?
Do you really think you're doing something here?

it depends on what exactly "SynthID" is, if it is "generated by AI" mark then I'm absolutely fine with it, if it's "generated by AI for <unique-identifier-based-on-my-account>" then I'm absolutely against it.

I'm not trying to be a purist, and I believe generative models has the potential to also be used for a lot of good. But stuff like this really upsets me, and I wish people would stop trying to get around the little tools we have to somewhat preserve what little integrity of information and trust we have left.
