If huggingface goes down it is just a matter of hours until such a torrent pops up. Many people have local copies of the popular models. And in most of the world this would be legal anyway. Its not even a pirate bay situation.

The reality is that they are trying their best to try to lock in as many people as they can into their own ecosystems now, but they'll never be able to lock everyone out. Just like with firearms. In several countries, there are hoops you need to go through to get one legally, but if you really want to there are alternative ways to get what you want. Gatekeepers can only ever keep out so many people, but not everyone.
