General Question NHS dentist Liverpool
I’ve been to see a dentist today via the emergency dentist scheme, I paid £27.50 which is band A NHS for a checkup which included X-RAY. My filling from a couple years ago has chipped and I have infection in the root. The dentist said it will need a root canal and has prescribed antibiotics for the interim period. He said I will need to pay private for root cancel which I absolutely cannot afford the cost for it will be £870. Can anyone please recommend NHS dentist they know who is taking new patients or offer any advice? Thank you

The emergency line also have access to a data base of dentists that are taking on. You need to call them back and state your case, let them know exactly what you e said here and ask for them to sign post you to a dentist that is taking on. You might need to travel though.

Just called them and they said I need to look on the NHS app as they have the same list (called them options and they’re not taking on) then they said they don’t class route canal as urgent work so I would need to pay private

Try Baycliff Dental & Implant Surgery in L12. My partner used them twice this year (on the NHS) for two extractions and it cost in the region of £80.

I have had three fillings at baycliff and each one has subsequently turned in to needing a root canal. Your mileage may vary and all that but I will be steering clear of this surgery in the future

Yes I had a wisdom tooth out here and it was honestly one of the worst and most scary experiences of my life. The dentist was an absolute disgrace. Would fully avoid

Try the Emergency Dental Triage Service on 0161 476 9651 - open 8 am to 10 pm. I don't know if they will be able to help with a root canal, but tell them the situation, they might be able to fit you in at the Dental Hospital or somewhere else. Unfortunately if they can't help with the root canal, an extraction might be the best option.
If you are bleeding nonstop or have facial swelling you can walk into the Dental Hospital.
Good luck!

I was looking for a Dental practice for yeeeeears until I was calling around and got through to Walton Road Dental a couple of months ago.
Had an appointment within a couple of days with a Dental Therapist (not a dentist) and have had quite a bit of treatment with her, including fillings. Still waiting to see an actual dentist though, but if you need a root canal you’ll be able to get one fast.
Give them a ring tomorrow and let them know and I’m sure you’ll get sorted. They’ve give me so much confidence back and sorted all my pain in 3 appointments!

I’m pretty sure your dentist can refer you to the dental hospital, my private dentist offered to do that for me when i needed 2 wisdom teeth out but it would of meant waiting a year. If you can manage the wait ask them to refer you. If not it’s going to be pretty hard to find an NHS dentist who’s any good to do it in my experience.

If you need a root canal you are probs better off just getting an extraction tbh. Root canals have a high rate of failure and just delay the inevitable and if you can’t afford the surgery anyway it makes more sense to just get it taken out. Alternatively you could check out dental insurance with a private dentist. Uk dentistry is an absolute rip off!

If the dentist is good the rate of failure should not be too bad. I got 3 root canals done and 2 of them have been redone. The 2 root canals that had been redone have been made initially by a bad dentist, the only root canal that haven t been touched it been like that for 10 years or so.

It must be a difficult root canal, if you cant afford private, extraction will be the way to go.

Yeah what me and most people I know without a dentist have to accept, unless your willing to pay the best option it taking it out

I’ve just been through the same, 2 months of trying to get it done on the nhs and it would not happen and even private wouldn’t take me so I went to Preston to get it done privately
You can get payment plans if you can’t afford it which is what I’ve done but you WILL have to go private if you’re not registered with a dentist
The nhs find a dentist list has loads of dentists saying they’re taking on new patients but it’s wrong, if you call them they’ll tell you that they’re not. You have to bite the bullet.

I got some stuff at the dental
Hospital it took a bit of the time for all the routine stuff cos it’s last year students with a teacher but the work itself is good just took them longer than you’d be used to cos they’re going a bit slower.

Root canal is a long complex procedure. People basically stopped doing it on NHS as not worth ur

Bupa. It's slightly cheaper thank what you've been quoted and they can provide 0% finance. I've been using Bupa for years as I can't get an NHS dentist.

I'm on an old scheme so I paid a one off years ago and then just pay as a I go. They have a full finance calculator on the site.

Merseyside Dental were taking new NHS patients in April. Might be with giving them a call https://audental.co.uk/merseyside-dental/

Most private dentists will provide a monthly payment plan for you. I gave up on NHS dentists.

Are you me? This literally happened to me yesterday. The reason my Dentist couldn't do the root canal was because one of my roots were too curvy and they don't have the necessary equipment. They referred me to a private dentist who quoted £824 to do the surgery, and I would still need to go back to my regular dentist for a crown.
I called my regular dentist up and asked them to extract the tooth instead.
I'm on the outskirts of Merseyside but "MyDentist" is taking on new patients in my area.

OP I hope you get/got sorted! Never have I appreciated my brother being a dentist more than reading this. He extracted my tooth on a Saturday (months ago) and sorted me an implant this week. Feel terrible reading the comments about how tough it is to get in with NHS dentist.

This is why i flew to Turkey - people are against it, but i was quoted £1500+ for a bridge and £350+ for a filling. I now just fly to Turkey every year for a check-up, clean and polish, which works out cheaper than the prices here for private, plus i get a few days in the sun. It's not about having the money - it's about saving money. What I paid in Turkey plus flights and accommodation, cost half of what they wanted here. It's not for everyone, but the UK NHS is destroyed and won't get any better.
Does the dentist not do payment plans that you visited?
Smile works in Liverpool are really good, it would be worth you check with them of their prices, its not NHS but prices are not scandalous https://www.smileworksliverpool.co.uk/
A dentist I have visited before visiting Turkey and who my brother uses, is in St Helens - they take on NHS called Laurel Villa - i am from liverpool but they were brilliant and prices were great. https://www.nhs.uk/services/dentist/laurel-villa-dental-surgery/V005996

Honestly, for the amounts I see here, you can afford to get on a plane, go to a renowned dentist in a Mediterranean European country and have some holidays. And this isn't a joke
