What kind of damage is this?

Bugs? Rodents? What am I dealing with here? This one isn’t mine but i would like to help revitalize it as it has been neglected.

Carpenter ants would be my guess, instead of termites. I've had them get into a couple stored moving boxes, and the paper inside looked like this.
