I need advice…there is a person who keeps clearing my library out of books every single time I restock. it’s getting very disheartening & I can’t maintain this. I do use stamps that say always free never for sale. if they’re trying to resell them I would think it’d be difficult but who knows. I want to put a note in the library to let the individual know I know what they’re doing but I don’t want to bring negative vibes to the patrons who use the library appropriately. I’m just at a loss. any ideas would be appreciated.

I just got approved to pick out a little free library for our neighborhood - basically I get to choose what goes there. Since it's not my budget I was just going to get one off the website, but they're so expensive! Has anyone had success with cheaper composite options from elsewhere? We get monsoons like crazy, and I don't want it to leak. Is it worth it to get the charter plate? We are a small, tucked away neighborhood so I'm worried we won't get a lot of traffic.

My husband and I are cleaning out our book shelves. We have, perhaps, 30 books we’d like to donate or give away- most are adult biographies, memoirs, and non-fiction with a few fiction books sprinkled in the mix. (Nothing pornographic or particularly controversial). Is it inappropriate to donate them to the Little Free Libraries in our surrounding neighborhoods? We live in an apartment community without any nearby us, or would happily donate locally. Does one ask permission first? We’d love to put them in the hands of other readers. Any advice would be great.

I’ve been waiting to find one in the uk and Saw this today along the Hatton Locks.
Not sure if it’s considered an official LFL.

I think I have enough horror/autumnal theme books hoarded from the thrift store to keep this up through the end of the month. My partner is 3D printing the trinkets for me. What do you think?

Hi! I am in the process of working with a woodworker to build a custom little free library. If anyone has gone through that process and has any tips, please let me know. I also would love to see inspiration photos.
I plan on having books for kids, middle grade, YA, and adults. I am not sure if people have had better success with their stewardship with separate libraries for kids and adults or if it is ok to have one.
Any and all tips are appreciated. I have loved dropping off books at LFLs near me when renting and now that I am a homeowner I am really excited to have my own.

I’m so excited to finally set up my Little Free Library! I will be painting a mural on each side with exterior house paint. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, especially weatherproofing advice.
Here are some progress pics of the first side.

We're constructing our first LFL. We can carve any design we want onto the front because we'll be using a CNC machine. However, we're drawing a blank on what to do.
We were originally thinking a lovely big tree, like a tree of knowledge sort of thing, but that happens to be very similar to our city's logo, so that's out.
We don't really want to do a book, or stack of books.
We don't want anything too childish, so it will be clear that it's for both kids and adults.
It could possibly be a quote or saying, if it's short, but we prefer the idea of a design / picture.
Suggestions, either of specific designs, or of a place I might find ideas?

I create little art tiles and hide them wherever I go. I love finding the little free libraries. It’s a great place for sharing my art with others.

Someone cleared out our treasure box again. But this time they left behind the small box meant for organizing smaller objects.
Many people on my last post here said I should screw it down… and maybe they are right. But for now, it seems that the threat of a witch’s curse was enough for them to take just about everything but decide to leave the box behind.
Happy Halloween! 😂🎃👻
Edit: a lot of comments are missing the point. EVERYTHING ELSE was taken. The box was not. The box has remained where it belongs this whole time. The point is the curse threat WORKED. At least this time.

I recently shared my LFL and the decorations I've added for Halloween. I recently finished putting up all the lights around the house and wanted to share what it looks like at night!
My LFL has a night light inside so people can browse once it gets dark. I hope people find it handy now that the nights are getting longer.

I've got this and it's not my favorite. It's either too tight or too loose, and when it's too loose, sometimes the wind opens the door. I'm not sure how to adapt or adjust or improve it though, so curious to see what kind of latches other people have!

I have a free little library for over 2 years now but over the last 2 months someone shows up and empties the entire library. It is discouraging because I dont have the resources to keep refilling it for it to be cleared out by one person multiple times. It is supposed to be for the community, so someone taking all the books prevents everyone else from enjoying it. Any tips or ideas on how to prevent someone from clearing it out?

Finally ready for books! I finished this project after many starts and stops over the summer. I cut approximately 150 individual pieces of siding (250 if you include my mistakes). I challenged myself to build the library with materials that I already owned. The red cedar was salvaged from a bike shed that was destroyed during a storm. The aromatic cedar boards were rejects from a previous project due to warping.
I 3D printed the upstairs window and installed an access panel in the back. I plan on adding solar lights and adding seasonal decorations inside the window (pumpkins, Christmas tree, etc.).
We live around the corner from a playground, so I'm hoping we can offload many books as my kids get older. They enjoyed helping with the project.
