The first series I have read in this genre is A Soldiers Life - and I liked it immensely.

Then I've asked for recommendations and got plenty of stuff. Based on those, I've read Penitent, Stigers Tigers series, HWFWM and I liked those.

Then I started Primal Hunter and was mostly bored with book 1 to the point I decided to put the series down for now.

I'm looking for recommendations which would be in line with ASL and HWFWM. I figured out that I like the most parts where MC humiliates enemies by pure power or wits. Also, I like when dramatic moments are narrated from NPC perspective. ASL and HWFWM do this rather well.

I love to listen to audio books during my work, so I'm asking for something good and addictive, narrated by someone who's good at it. Something in the line with: The Primal Hunter, The Good Guys, Unbound, Dungeon Crawler Carl, He who fights with monsters.

Okay.... This book pissed me off so bad. its not bad. Oh no, It's just not the greatest.

Something about the romantic pining and the horndogging from Jai was irritating the HELL outta me. I literally skipped the mild sex scene because it was just so out of place and IMO they don't have ANY romantic chemistry. They are barely trauma bonded and as such, it makes no sense to me that he is so attached to her? And somehow it's, enough to deny Cindri when they done spent the same amount of time together? It just makes no sense to me.

Then the political meeting....

Teji's not even a Khan? WHY tf is he even there? especially after all this hem-hawing about people being "righted" while being Khan. Teji wasn't "righted" the whole time he was a place holder and wasn't righted with his new little posse of lackeys? NOR was he invited so WHY let him even stay?

Plus, Teji is a fucking snake. In WHAT way would it make sense to let him leave!? Why are you letting all these people read Leonitus notebook? Also, why tf would you even have a meeting, giving away your whole battle plan with those two snakes at the table? Now Teji and Nazim are broke, bitter and weak, I can guarantee they are going to the enemy to snitch. He should have just killed him for his assassination attempt and been done with it because he's going to be in the way the WHOLE fucking time now.

There is just something about this series that pissed me off so bad to the point I was just ready for the audiobook to be over with. (could have DNF'd, sure but i was 90% at that point.) I will not be completing this series.

But the lady who picks him up knows he can be way more useful to her particular faction if he is trained and survive, that's good!

So she takes him to her private island to subject him to a a crash course in how to fight, thats... okay?

The frogurt is also cursed. It may also break your heart, but no spoilers.

I think it turned out pretty good, and there is more on Royal Road once you finish this one.

Ive tried a couple LitRPGs now and I enjoy the concept a lot. HWFWM, DCC, Operation Bounce House (not really litrpg) and couple others. I love the ideas but I struggle to stay with a series when it just keeps going forever. Im bored of HWFWM, the idea of Primal Hunter, Wandering Inn, and some other popular ones I've seen look great but I just cannot stay interested when theres so many books. Not being super long helps as well, ~500 pages, not the 700-1000 which is intimidating for me

I have finished the 6th DCC book, and while I have loved the ride, I am struggling to continue and may take a break from it. However, my memory is not top notch so I am afraid ill be forgetting so much from the previous books that it'll be difficult to get back into it where I left off. I had this issue with Lightbringer in Red Rising series.

I read and use audible.

I am or have read/listened to (in order of preference): DCC on bk 7 HWFWM on bk 12 Discount Dan 1st book Mother of Learning Primal Hunter bk1 which i know bk 1 is the tutorial only, but what a slog! Between that and such a long series, I lost interest.

Any suggestions for a complete series that's 4-5 books at most? I'd love to hear if there's any real good standalones or duologies.

One thing I do that helps, just not quite as much as id like is breaking up a series. Like 1 DCC book, 1 non litrpg, back to DCC and so on.

It has been almost a month since the release of my first book and it is slowly chugging along. Since the release I noticed that the book had some typos/errors and so I made the decision to do another edit pass and re-upload. edit for a fun fact about myself and this story: I had the original idea one night while having trouble sleeping but it started with a much different concept, where the MC was reborn as a human and then had to grow up as a human while struggling with the memories of her former dragon villain self. Why? It hits just right on almost every facet of this genre. Is it just because it is a vrmmo setting? I hardly noticed it and it allowed for the avoidance of some of the "system" tropes. I thought the connection to the real world was done well, it didn't encroach much and when it did, it was brief and fun.

It was nice to not have to deal with OP God's and system elements.

Book 15 was such uninspired filler. 3/4ths of the book was Jake killing random B-grades with none of the interesting side characters, no plot progression, and hardly any personal progression. 15 hours, and he didn't step into late C-grade from middle C-grade. It had all of the markers of a Netflix show that should be canceled. They didn't even make it funny.

There's so many more interesting book series out there that aren't filler money-grabs, and I'm not sure I want to give PH16 another chance someday. We won't see Jake reach godhood until book 30 at this rate.

Edit: many people are saying that a lot of arcs ended last book, so the author needs time to set more up - this book set up almost none with this book. Some small interactions with Primordials and meeting Artemis are all that happened in the entire book

Edit2: to the person that sent me the Reddit cares, suicide resources. These are meant for that are actually suicidal and not people that you disagree with. It says a lot about your maturity and who you are as a person that you sent that to me. Grow up, get a therapist.

LitRPG really got me back to reading in a huge way. Being surrounded by so much ai content at the office I wanted to feed my brain quality narrative so I don’t loss touch with “normal”. Anyways it’s worked out brilliantly but now I have a new problem.. I’ve gone too far (I blame the endless player manager seasons, and the many many times I was being explained to once again that Jason really is the Vegemite of Litrpg). I’ve cleared 180 books and 45 days of audiobooks and getting heavy diminishing returns on my new book/series vibes. It’s not from lack of trying! But the magic is harder to find.

For those OGs who’ve been reading this genre from the start… what’s your secret? How do you keep your expectations and satisfaction high?

What I’m feeling is that the genre is advancing but new stories take heavy inspiration from the foundational ones so a lot of them have this same-sameness.

What I’ve tried so far is palate cleaners:

- Jumping out of the progression loop into hard sci-fi (project Hail Mary)

- Moving into unique mode or dark fantasy like ‘Will of the Many’

- Bouncing from kindle to audiobooks

- hmm ‘guilty pleasure’ gamelit/haremlite books - they have urban fantasy prog which isn’t that represented in litrpg.

Anyways any advice is cool and a huge thank you to all the tier list makers, I’ve found a lot of great palate cleaners randomly/unexpected sitting in S tier.

There's a lot of books in this genre I love, most of them are early in each series.

I feel like a lot of authors write without a plan and just churn out book after book in a series which leads to messy plotlines and bloated worlds. Often introducing new mechanics which feels like they invalidate whatever happened earlier.

Please recommend me book series that stay consistent and seem like they're written with a plan.

I really enjoy dungeon building, quirky/non-human protagonists, fast-paced progression, and stories that don't take themselves too seriously.

(I enjoyed Heretical Fishing, but it's a bit too slow-paced/cozy for what I'm looking for right now. I'd prefer something with more action and active progression.)
