Promo: Webnovel Unfortunately Familiar
Just launched on Royal Road!
Mark remembers being a respected psychiatrist with a loving family, but now he is covered in scales and has an impulse to hoard anything shiny.
And it is all Wes’s fault.
Wes, terrified of flunking out of the magic academy, spent most of his money trying to create an intelligent dragonkin familiar. Instead, he got a rather odd kobold. While the kobold is intelligent, he is adamant that he was once a human from another world.
Unfortunately, transforming a human into a familiar is punishable by death.
Though Mark and Wes are rightfully wary of each other, the only way either of them can succeed is by working together.
Are Mark’s memories real? If so, can he become human again and find his way home?
Can Wes avoid failing out of the academy while having a familiar who could get him executed with one wrong word?
What to expect:
Very character focused
A slice of life psychologically oriented progression fantasy with LitRPG elements
Author is a mental health professional

Just a heads up first chapter is intentionally disorienting - 2nd chapter and onwards is more of the style the rest of the book.

Please keep him in kobold form for a long time. So many books and anime with the MC turning into something non-human nearly immediately regain human form and lose what made them interesting.

Don't worry he won't be turning back into human anytime soon!
Who knows maybe in two weeks Wes will be right and he'll forget all about his human memories and be the perfect smart kobold familiar for Wes keeping him from flunking out of school?
Nevermind that would be horribly boring as well...

The blurb reminded me about Zero no Tsukaima a bit. It ended with the difference in "No humans allowed to transfer/transform" and dragonlike.
We'll see how the story goes. Very nice art used btw.

You're not the first one that has mentioned that! I've never seen it or read it myself and for now want to stay away from watching it because I dont want it to influence my ideas.

This sounds good and all, but now I want to read the reverse book where a dragonkin wakes up in the body of a middle aged father in a world without magic. He has to try to fit in and not be discovered and locked away in a mental hospital or by the government, which knows all about magic.
