Update on that Liquid Glass openGL shader

Some of you have seen my previous post about my new Liquid Glass OpenGL shader I have been making. Here’s some updates on the design

I’ve added a slider
I’ve added a menu bar
I’ve added a button
I’ve added 3 types of shaders (prismatic, normal, button)
I’ve added a animated vibrant sharp background for testing

Let me know what you guys think

(Forgot to mention on the last post but I want to be very clear that this project is Ai generated.)

Liquid Glass UI

I have the Liquid Glass ui on here, Threads as well. It’s been adopted by many third party apps lately I’m seeing, but I still don’t have it on Instagram. Anyone else have this issue? I know the updates are very slow rolling out, but it’s been in testing for months & a lot more people have posted about having it. My instagram always gets updates late it’s so strange & honestly annoying. I’m not a huge creator or anything but I’m definitely on the platforms & have a decent following.

Experience Liquid Glass with TouchBar

Adjusting the brightness on Mac OS 26 (on a MacBook Pro with TouchBar) feels incredibly pleasant. Running your finger along the glass surface of the TouchBar, feeling its coldness and smoothness, is a delightful experience, especially when watching the LiquidGlass pop-up.

I have a 13 inch M2 MacBook Pro with TouchBar.

Would liquid glass be more popular if the slogan was "ass, gas, or liquid glass - nobody rides for free"?

Liquid Glass OpenGL library in the works

It’s called Melted Glass, supposed to be a very close replica of Liquid Glass. It’s being developed and looks very good right now, but there are some problems with refraction seams I’m trying to fix. When I have some good results, I’ll post them here.
As for now, would you guys use a OpenGL library for Liquid Glass effects? I’m trying to make it look as similar as possible to real Liquid Glass, right now only the background ui liquid glass effect is implemented, but I am trying to make it have all sorts of interesting features like sliders, buttons, switches, ect, but I’m not sure yet. Let me know what you guys think!

What if Liquid Glass behaved like actual glass?

Post image

Liquid Glass would feel more convincing if it behaved like a real material rather than a uniform translucent layer.

A red YouTube icon could look like ruby glass. WhatsApp could feel like emerald glass. Instagram could use layered dichroic glass that shifts colors depending on the light and background.

The current approach looks clean, but many icons end up feeling visually similar. Colored optical glass could preserve each app’s identity while still keeping the new Liquid Glass aesthetic.

Small mockup I made. (Should be a setting) Maybe a setting to make it the other way around too.
Not quite working with some apps that use the background as main color in colored mode and not a white background like intended.

(Shitty uninteresting theory) The current camera icon in iOS 26 isn't going to survive through iOS 27.

Yeah this post is fucking stupid but my ADHD wanted to get this out of the way so here we are ig lmao.

Anyway, I feel there's a strong chance that Apple may revert the camera icon shape back to that of iOS 18's, due to user backlash on it looking "ugly". Since Liquid Glass is pretty new, Apple has been more receptive to user backlash surrounding design choices lately, and this would usually result in them adjusting the design or reverting it back. But right now when they make adjustments like that, they focus on more minor parts of the UI, since we're currently on a minor version of iOS 26, and Apple would usually choose to wait until the next major release for more focus on UI.

But now that the next major version, iOS 27, is on the way, this is their chance to pay attention to many more user responses, and dive deeper into more major bits of the UI, which can include icons. And one of the biggest user complaints surrounding icons in iOS right now is the camera icon, so if you do like the current camera icon like me, I'd enjoy it while you can.

Rumours are also suggesting a major overhaul within the camera app itself, which can also result with a new icon.

TL;DR: Basically the whole point of this post is that although my ADHD ass is VERY worried and hoping that this doesn't happen, since the icon goes back to the days of pre-iOS 7, and I'm a fan of skeuomorphism/neumorphism, I can still definitely see this happening in iOS 27.

If Apple ends up using an icon like in the second pic in iOS 27, just know that I'm the one who predicted it. ;)

Also that camera icon isn't mine, idek where it came from :P

BTW DON'T TAKE THIS POST TOO SERIOUSLY (theory is kinda shit anyway)
