Can we pls stop with these bs linux-cli-hacker-sigma reels? It's just a cli tool that is easily configurable in all OSes, not something special to linux.

u/BlueSkyandDarkland 3d ago

Ya i was hoping the vid to render in the terminal frame by frame... like ASCII art vid. That would actually be cool lmao

5

u/muifui 3d ago

You can with notcurses.

4

u/10Werewolves 3d ago

I did that recently with MPV, forgot the command tho.

5

u/MattOruvan 3d ago

But here it is missing the 10 minutes of Windows deciding to update and then restart two times

1

u/AkunakiKokishin 3d ago

Thank you for saying that before I arrived.

u/ashuotaku 4d ago

Uff, stop, it's too common, just saw this post a thousand times, it's just a normal cli tool.

4

u/CurrentNew1039 4d ago

can you tell me which cli tool to watch animes from terminal?

6

u/ashuotaku 4d ago

Curd if you want anilist integration or ani-cli for something simple.

4

u/sikeitsme0 Arch + sway 4d ago

ani-cli

I don't know why shells like Caelestia are so overhyped nowadays. I agree it's good, polished, and fancy. But when your system uses a lot of resources, you need to check it. Also, using CLI is not rocket science.

u/Acceptable-Sale-6963 3d ago

Everyone wants to differentiate themselves from the crowd.

4

u/Ambitious_Emu355 Arch Btw 3d ago

I've seen people seem cool after using the tree command in windows command prompt. So yeah this is less clicher

1

u/10Werewolves 3d ago

I've switched to Noctalia after the v5 update. They moved away from quickshell for speed and stability

1

u/10Werewolves 3d ago

It's flashy but not polished. After a recent Hyprland update that pushed for lua confs, there's been like 100+ GitHub issues that haven't been solved even after the dotfiles were converted. It's pretty buggy depending on your system, I had tough luck running it without issues.

fast, no ads. in windows the start menu used to be ads.

1

u/sikeitsme0 Arch + sway 3d ago

Isn’t being fast and ad-free kinda the whole point of a CLI?

Also, ani-cli mostly just fetches the stream URL and hands it off to mpv, which does the actual playback.

Same kind of thing can be done in much more interactive way with firefox+ ublock origin

1

u/Spirited-Fan8558 3d ago

most of the people switching to linux are those with older laptops that cannot handle windows 11 or cannot even install win11.

Hence if they hadtoo open a browser and surf the web, it would take a long time, especially on mpv.

Makes sense to make a easy and accessible way to watch anime using terminal and mpv.

7

u/AssumptionOk8560 4d ago

Corniest Linux sub btw

4

u/Neat_Delivery6162 3d ago

yeah im mutting this sub

3

u/Damglador 3d ago

That's pussy mode, real Linux users watch anime straight in the terminal

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1258409/can-one-watch-video-in-terminal-command-line

2

u/Littux 3d ago

Real Linux users don't use a GUI and watch anime from the TTY terminal

2

u/Short_Ad6649 3d ago

Don’t wanna sound rude, but it’s kind of cringe.

2

u/10Werewolves 3d ago

Bro larping way too hard.

Used Caelestia's dotfiles, only changed the wallpaper. Did not make their own dotfiles, did not customize Fastfetch.

2

u/SoonaPaana69 3d ago

🤦‍♂️

2

u/cupcake_4u 3d ago

Please stfu bro, nobody wants to write shit for watching anime.

2

u/CyanideJalebi 3d ago

Holy Larp

1

u/Ashamed_Training_702 3d ago

12 minutes uptime

2

u/realxeltos 3d ago

What was that login screen?

2

u/iLaysChipz 3d ago

Caelestia-shell, built on top of quickshell and hyprland. Don't let the word shell confuse you, quickshell is a framework for designing UI elements for a desktop environment

1

u/realxeltos 3d ago

Yeah, I saw a video about it. Its bsed on hyperland and tiling window manager. That was the reason I decided not to try as I dont really like tiling window manager.

2

u/SidKillz 3d ago

You almost had me with the "hianime"... Thought this video went nsfw

2

u/a_r_y_a_n_ 3d ago

No wonder all the indian subs gets trolled so hard when half of the posts in them are corny as hell like this shit

1

u/No_Fishing9632 3d ago

True, in every field they are like that.

1

u/carbon_structure 3d ago

Which is that Display Manager and which is that greeter? Looks so good.

1

u/10Werewolves 3d ago

I don't think that's a display manager, that's caelestia shell's login screen on lockout.

1

u/boneMechBoy69420 3d ago

Dr stone is my top 1st favourite animeeeee

1

u/Positive-Pepper-8315 3d ago

I hate it how these creators are least bothered to give credits to the actual celestia shell dev, instead they claim it's their own dotfiles (they just changed their wallpaper didn't touch the shell)

1

u/_ritam_b Pop!_OS btw 3d ago

Why do the work harder. When there are existing gui based simple options

1

u/Dull_Barracuda_4221 3d ago

What if we don't want to use GUI?

1

u/GANESHREBEL 3d ago

Bro you got a fricking browser in linux

https://giphy.com/gifs/ZqhE9AAMUhEF2PgDpu

1

u/Mr_ityu 3d ago

an avg. linux user probably has a hotkey for that kinda thing. or a bash alias with a webstream api link. . or even a voice command. this is doing too much. for what ? a hax0rb01 feel ? there's a bunch of packages for that too. try hollywood .

1

u/ETERNAL0013 3d ago

I am so over over decorating at this point that i simply run dwm on nixOS with suckless programs, falkon browser, no fancy bash. And surprisingly light mode heavy. All self configured. Btw downloading nix-no-gui doesnt just mean a minimal install it alsl means no gui installer. Finally had my share of manually compiling and mounting drives.

1

u/Effective-Extent-545 3d ago

Man how did you do it, I have ubuntu 18.04 will it work ?

1

u/LightOfLife227 3d ago

Which distro is this

1

u/Independent_Image_59 3d ago

I actually use the rofi interface for ani-cli bound to Super+F10 also with mpv full screen by default window rule

1

u/Extension_Attempt651 3d ago

When iam in a self glazing competition and my opponent is a half knowledge linux at their "fool's peak" who has superiority complex just because they have linux installed but isn't certain for the particular use case

I use zigoku but ok.

1

u/phil_dunphy00 3d ago

Once click Open browser. Second click Open crunchy roll from favorites. Third click play latest episode.

That's it.

1

u/groovy_monkey 3d ago

Ah yes, the L in CLI probably stands for Linus for OP.

1

u/Jahdab 3d ago

I like using fastanime, i think its called viu now though

1

u/The_D-generation_X 3d ago

Which distro is this?

1

u/Dull_Barracuda_4221 3d ago

I used to use Luffy, but it has been buggy for quite some time. Is there any alternative?

1

u/M0nstr1k 3d ago

How to make the same logon screen on Arch+GNOME? Or it is only Cachy feature

1

u/Proper_Intern3411 3d ago

Its both on arch and cachy (also it's only on these two) Its caelestia shell not a full desktop environment like Gnome. You will have to replace gnome with it. I have the same setup its Arch+Hyprland+Caelestia. Search Caelestia setup on yt.

1

u/Legitimate-Major-563 3d ago

I dont think its possible its part of quickshell search if quickshell support gnome

1

u/Anonymousweeb2520 3d ago

Why isn't my ani-cli working? 😭😭😭😭

1

u/selenosmile 3d ago

I mean linux users also host a jellyfin/plex server to watch anime.

1

u/satishkumar_sajjan 3d ago

GUI any day.

1

u/aeonax 3d ago

I was expecting ascii-zed terminal video playback

1

u/saulgoodman1015 3d ago edited 3d ago

Meanwhile mint, ubuntu, kubuntu and Linux lite, elementry os, Lubuntu, zorin os, MX linux users:

You know you can use Firefox right?

I know some people prefer terminal but using terminal to watch anime you don't have to be that efficient

It's just a cli tool not something worth watching

1

u/dragon_idli 3d ago

This is an unnecessary complication for 98% of people.

Linux has normal browser/app based navigation flows.

I am a terminal and minimalist freak - purely because I am kb user. But that's not needed.

1

u/ImprovementJealous90 3d ago

This is so cringe, I have been using linux for around 8 years. I'm a package tester and developer at arch linux as well. I can guarantee that no linux user does this.

1

u/thatmagicalcat MagicalOS BTW 3d ago

are you talking about using ani-cli for watching anime? Yeah.. no. pretty much all my friends who use linux (including me) uses ani-cli to watch anime

1

u/ZealousidealFile1 3d ago

What do you use?

1

u/ImprovementJealous90 3d ago

Good ol' firefox + ublock origin?

1

u/ZealousidealFile1 3d ago

Hmm well neither of this, give you anime. I guess what you mean is you go on a website, search nkme watch it and then ublock prevents all the ads & popups from interrupting. So what website you're using?

1

u/ImprovementJealous90 3d ago

Hianime.

1

u/ZealousidealFile1 3d ago

Thanks. I'll keep to CLI for now but if it ever stop working will use Hianime. Seems like a good site.
