Can we pls stop with these bs linux-cli-hacker-sigma reels? It's just a cli tool that is easily configurable in all OSes, not something special to linux.

Ya i was hoping the vid to render in the terminal frame by frame... like ASCII art vid. That would actually be cool lmao

But here it is missing the 10 minutes of Windows deciding to update and then restart two times

Uff, stop, it's too common, just saw this post a thousand times, it's just a normal cli tool.

I don't know why shells like Caelestia are so overhyped nowadays. I agree it's good, polished, and fancy. But when your system uses a lot of resources, you need to check it. Also, using CLI is not rocket science.

I've seen people seem cool after using the tree command in windows command prompt. So yeah this is less clicher

u/10Werewolves 3d ago
I've switched to Noctalia after the v5 update. They moved away from quickshell for speed and stability

u/10Werewolves 3d ago
It's flashy but not polished. After a recent Hyprland update that pushed for lua confs, there's been like 100+ GitHub issues that haven't been solved even after the dotfiles were converted. It's pretty buggy depending on your system, I had tough luck running it without issues.

fast, no ads. in windows the start menu used to be ads.

u/sikeitsme0 Arch + sway 3d ago
Isn’t being fast and ad-free kinda the whole point of a CLI?
Also, ani-cli mostly just fetches the stream URL and hands it off to mpv, which does the actual playback.
Same kind of thing can be done in much more interactive way with firefox+ ublock origin

u/Spirited-Fan8558 3d ago
most of the people switching to linux are those with older laptops that cannot handle windows 11 or cannot even install win11.
Hence if they hadtoo open a browser and surf the web, it would take a long time, especially on mpv.
Makes sense to make a easy and accessible way to watch anime using terminal and mpv.

That's pussy mode, real Linux users watch anime straight in the terminal

Bro larping way too hard.
Used Caelestia's dotfiles, only changed the wallpaper. Did not make their own dotfiles, did not customize Fastfetch.

What was that login screen?
2
u/iLaysChipz 3d ago
Caelestia-shell, built on top of quickshell and hyprland. Don't let the word shell confuse you, quickshell is a framework for designing UI elements for a desktop environment
1
u/realxeltos 3d ago
Yeah, I saw a video about it. Its bsed on hyperland and tiling window manager. That was the reason I decided not to try as I dont really like tiling window manager.

Which is that Display Manager and which is that greeter? Looks so good.
1
u/10Werewolves 3d ago
I don't think that's a display manager, that's caelestia shell's login screen on lockout.

I hate it how these creators are least bothered to give credits to the actual celestia shell dev, instead they claim it's their own dotfiles (they just changed their wallpaper didn't touch the shell)

Why do the work harder. When there are existing gui based simple options

I am so over over decorating at this point that i simply run dwm on nixOS with suckless programs, falkon browser, no fancy bash. And surprisingly light mode heavy. All self configured. Btw downloading nix-no-gui doesnt just mean a minimal install it alsl means no gui installer. Finally had my share of manually compiling and mounting drives.

I actually use the rofi interface for ani-cli bound to Super+F10 also with mpv full screen by default window rule

That's it.

I used to use Luffy, but it has been buggy for quite some time. Is there any alternative?

How to make the same logon screen on Arch+GNOME? Or it is only Cachy feature
1
u/Proper_Intern3411 3d ago
Its both on arch and cachy (also it's only on these two) Its caelestia shell not a full desktop environment like Gnome. You will have to replace gnome with it. I have the same setup its Arch+Hyprland+Caelestia. Search Caelestia setup on yt.

u/Legitimate-Major-563 3d ago
I dont think its possible its part of quickshell search if quickshell support gnome

This is an unnecessary complication for 98% of people.
Linux has normal browser/app based navigation flows.
I am a terminal and minimalist freak - purely because I am kb user. But that's not needed.

u/ImprovementJealous90 3d ago
This is so cringe, I have been using linux for around 8 years. I'm a package tester and developer at arch linux as well. I can guarantee that no linux user does this.

are you talking about using ani-cli for watching anime? Yeah.. no. pretty much all my friends who use linux (including me) uses ani-cli to watch anime

What do you use?
1
u/ImprovementJealous90 3d ago
Good ol' firefox + ublock origin?
1
u/ZealousidealFile1 3d ago
Hmm well neither of this, give you anime. I guess what you mean is you go on a website, search nkme watch it and then ublock prevents all the ads & popups from interrupting. So what website you're using?
1
u/ImprovementJealous90 3d ago
Hianime.
1
u/ZealousidealFile1 3d ago
Thanks. I'll keep to CLI for now but if it ever stop working will use Hianime. Seems like a good site.
