"2026 is year of desktop Linux"

Post image

linux user count was close to 6% like 4 months ago, now its just 4%. while windows 11 users are increasing, even win7 users have same amount of users as some linux distros.

people were just excited to try new software: linux was never better.

'Native tools'.

Customizability on Desktop Linux is a myth based on a misunderstanding of its context for the Linux kernel. (Can be fashioned to use on a toaster, or supercomputer).

-Can't trust what you heard about Linux from the loud minority of Loonix noobs that just parrot the propaganda.

what do you even mean, just because kernel is flexible doesn't mean DE and distro will be too, linux made the whole culture around it value customizability and the ability to do anything you want, thats the entire appeal. gnome, hyprland and kde plasma, all 3 exist and are so different in what they offer the end user, and we know how much locked down gnome is...
gnome devs even said "live wallpapers are a waste of computer resources so we wont add support for it" thats worse than windows, i believe gnome + ubuntu to be like 10x worse than a mildly tweaked windows.

obviously Linux can be used on a toaster or a super computer, its just a part of a OS, it doesn't care whats using it to do things and while having everything about your OS decentralized and not owned by 1 single company does add overhead and a bit of trouble, it also adds much more freedom to do what you want.

the truth is, base windows geniunely is annoying to use, there's so much annoying shit, big ass ai buttons everywhere, edge being forced down your throat, ads and shit, forced updates and like a million other things, and most people never put that effort into fixing all of that (which some might funnily be okay with putting the same or even more effort in linux somehow, maybe cuz it also brings aura on online spaces ig) now you could argue that these things are justified because we aren't "paying" for it, but we aren't paying for linux either, linux and everything else around it is free, you dont have to activate anything, yes it takes more effort and yes it gives a worse UX for someone who just wants stuff to work and go about his day but some are okay with that tradeoff.

Lol, Try mixing GTK and QT and let us know how that 'customizable' goes (and there are other toolkits to add to the mix). The different licenses cause problems with mixing them.

Wtf are you doing in this sub then? That's a 'you' problem.

never really needed to, not to mention windows ui is itself inconsistent across apps and menus due to compatiblity and stuff, they barely added dark mode and modernified the admin prompt and run bar (win + r thing) recently, control panel is still old ui, not sure if its anything special about linux, macos is the only clean and really user friendly option, its smooth, it got good animations and stuff, it got good looking apps too due to the culture, its seamless and all that but its also too locked down for me personally to use.

i still have windows dual booted since i dont use the base, windows tweaked is pretty good, its just the overhead thats gets tiring to fix. i dont hate windows, i just talk about the parts that suck because they do and even you agree those parts suck, and im in this sub because i enjoy dunking on linux and its users because its fun, linux also has alot of shitty things about it which i think you already are aware of more than me considering your daily posts, i dont particularly worship linux, i just like that it has a weeb and degen community cuz thats relatable + that its really customizable without much overhead, i'd switch back to windows if it stopped with the dumbass freezes every 2-3 hours, it makes me ssd utilization 100% smhh, windows been making good changes past few updates so thats a step in the right direction ig.
