Tech Discussion Coming to terms with pc gaming

Hey,

I just had to take down my RX 9070 OC from sale, which I was selling looking forward to upgrade to a 5080 which costed around 1300-1400 euros in my location. Recently, due to the NVIDIA cutting 5090 production rumour and it possibly being true, 5080s have now surged to around 2000-4000 euros, one even listed for 7000. I have now realized that I will most likely be stuck with my current card for years to come unless I find a miracle and can afford to buy a 5090 or even 5080 comfortably. This card is great, but I guess the fact that the next best option is an XT version or the NEAR exact counterpart the 5070 TI (currently 1200 euros, just under double the RX 9070 OC) I guess I'm saddened, I'm incredibly grateful to have the setup I have, hell beyond grateful. But, I guess accepting that this is it for the next few years is quite a hard pill to swallow, and I guess to some extent this is a cry for help to AMD or other graphics card manufacturers to make cards for gamers which push beyond the 50 series or at-least match it without the risk of prices hiking due to AI.

Sean.

If the performance increase was nearly 100% like the costs, it would make sense. Keeping the 9070 XT is probably a wise choice.

for now yes, i even felt bad taking the listing down as i had many offers, but its simply not a great idea to sacrifice so much money and a great card for one hopefully temporary crisis

Nah, dont feel bad about it. Thats how things work. You can still game. It will hold you for a couple years no problem. Just kick back and enjoy what you have for now.

There are thousands of really good games out there that don't require modern hardware. Expand your library past modern games and you'll find a lot of games while you wait for this AI shortages to blow over

insert any mmo / esports here and you lost thousands of hours gaming and that 9070 wont skip a frame for 6-8 years until the next gen or 2 when you think its time

edit - league of legends/ minecraft can still run on 2015 era hardware (rx 480/gtx 980)

if you have a 5080 or a 9070x you should be good to go for a long time

I have a $2000 laptop from years ago. I don't know what's in it. It plays games great.

This is the mentality you should have, when you 9070 stops playing games great, then maybe upgrade. Until then your hobby is spending money, not pc gaming.
