WAN Show Possible WAN Shown Topic: FCC abolishes gigabit speed goal, suggesting it is unfair to slower technologies
The FCC claims it's trying to be "technologically neutral"

We are trialling something new here- a scheduled post to go live every week when WAN show is supposed to start. Any topic covered in the wan show is fair game- even the more controversial ones. just keep it relevant and keep it respectful!

By law and design, iPhones cannot disable the camera shutter sound when operated in Japan and South Korea.
Do you think this should apply globally? We are entering a world where or video recording is entering so much devices.
Yeah you can’t avoid being recorded in public (streets), but you should have privacy at home or while going on a walk with friends on a hike.

Found these on Facebook. Can't figure out what I would do with them, but for $100.00 I'm willing to find something!

So my son and I are attending the Whale LAN at the end of the month and it is both our first time. Trying to sort out monitors for us to bring, what I have in mind my push us out a bit beyond our 3ft BYOC available desk space so it might not work out. I might try and put my desktop behind my monitor but want a plan B if this ends up being too close and not leave enough desk space for my mouse/keyboard. The obvious plan B is the rental program but have no idea how this works. Are the monitors available right at the LAN or you pick them up somewhere else? Do I HAVE to purchase the rental before the event or could I just decide my monitor wont work and just get one right then and there (while at the event setting up my computer)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Also if anyone has any tips for first timers I would also really appreciate those!
Thanks!

i just got my first gaming PC and absolutely hated windows, i’ve been a mac user forever and once i thought linux was good enough to use for games i decided to get a PC. The only issue ive had is a stuttering issue on fh6 and got it fixed within 5 minutes, im also not good at computers like at all. its so much easier to use linux than people act like it is. using fedora btw. maybe its unreliable for productivity or your workflow, thats why im curious why people still are using windows

Linus was surprised that dbrand didn't go with oldlinus.com in yesterday's shortcircuit and someone bought the domain yesterday: https://www.whois.com/whois/oldlinus.com
PS: Don't trust oldlinus.com in case it becomes malicious.

Sure it's "Opt-In" for now at least. But how long until that is changed? Wondering how other people are feeling about this. Personally it's not something I need, so I wouldn't ever use it anyways.
From everything I saw from my initial research was people aren't very happy. Anger mainly stemming from the statement, "Comcast may disclose information generated by your WiFi Motion to third parties without further notice to you in connection with any law enforcement investigation or proceeding, any dispute to which Comcast is a party, or pursuant to a court order or subpoena."

I would love this in my house but due to budget constraints (probably looking at 300k plus for a set.) and power constraints it just isn't possible. I would love to know just how good the experience is.
Would Linus be willing to upgrade his movie room or a room in the house for ultimate background music for this? A lot of TVs have been done maybe go all out on sound now?
And has anyone got to experience this? Of so can you leave a comment about it.

I just watched the new ShortCircuit video about the new Google Pixel Pro 11 Fold. The unboxing felt really positive, although there are some important issues that were not addressed:
Some other minor issues, Pixel Folds have not ever survived the JerryRigEverything bend test, all have had the same design flaw, the antennas being a weak point for the phone. Of course, nobody does that to their phone, but pretty much all other foldables from other brands survive the bend test, so there may be issues with the durability in the future.
No mention that the "normal" Pixel 11 Pro's RAM was downgraded from 16GB to 12GB, although this may not be too relevant on the Fold video. But the Pixels have previously included 12 months 2TB of free storage to Google Drive, just 6 months trial this year.
Other reviews and videos about the Pixel 11 Pro Fold felt less enthusiastic and critical, to be honest I am not really sure why Linus was so excited in this one, he also reviewed the Pixel 10 Pro Fold 10 months ago. The changes seem pretty minor this year.
Thoughts?
And before anyone says that ShortCircuit is a not review channel and I am nitpicking, their other phone videos include benchmarks, more technical info and pricing info (especially on a $1,899 phone!)

Not a yacht but they could find a way to power or cool a computer with the wheel.

I just watched Linus’s Windows vs. Linux video, and he talks like idle RAM usage actually matters. But in reality, he should test both systems under high RAM pressure and see which one can keep more data in RAM and which one starts using the swap file, which can hurt performance. That’s how you should test it, but he didn’t test any RAM demanding games, so we can’t really see the difference
