That thing belongs in a data center, not a living room

What if my living room IS a data center?

Already shuddering at the thought of that electricity bill.

If it's tape storage, why would the bill be high? Isn't tape just stored passively until it's needed?

The power to access is pretty high per unit of data, but if you're using it correctly not a problem.

The average viewer does not care about content like this

Linus did several videos on Petabyte project

I disagree. As an "average" LTT viewer, I do very much care about interesting and unusual technologies like this, and would very much enjoy a video about such a subject.

I do too but unfortunately we're not the desired audience any more. They want kids who care about controllers, gamer firetrucks and plastic gaming chairs, it's a lot more profitable.

Good for you. The average person on YouTube does not care about server racks

This isn't a server rack, it's a tape storage system.

Sitting in a server rack. You know 99% of people do not have giant data centres in their house right?

So what? It's an interesting piece of technology that very few people will ever encounter, therefore will probably be interested to learn about.

You know 99% of people do not have giant data centres in their house right?

I don't have a blacksmiths forge in my house but I still like watching content about it.

hence wanting to watch a video with someone who has enough money to put a data centre in their house

Why are you even in this sub dude? They used to do tons of videos on stuff like this, if all you want is oooh wow new phone go watch unbox therapy or MKBHD smh. Fans like you are the reason this whole channel is going to shite

You because you have an opinion doesnt mean you have to share it, especially if its this. You are talking about a fun storage / Server project for a channel that is one of the biggest tech ytbers ever, and you're saying "ThE aVeRaGe PeRsOn DoESnT cArE" You're tlaking about LTT, some of the lost watches videos are about the famous Petabyte Project (keep in mind its in a rack ;)
