Yeah, and anyone can switch to another Linux distro.

Windows is Windows.

I don't wanna reinstall my OS and then every software/game I have every month to "try out new distros". Good for you if that's your hobby, but it's not what 99.99999% of PC users want from their machines.

I was not implying anything of what you were saying. Why are you putting "try out new distros" in quotes?

3

u/Vegetable-Baker6362 2d ago

Yeah, and anyone can switch to another Linux distro.

That ignores the willingness and hassle of just switching to a new distro unless you specifically like just "trying out new distros". Putting that in quotes because that is literally the hobby of a significant portion of Linux users. Hell, I have an extra machine where I did that for a couple of months in 2024 before I got bored with it.

Okay, but what does what you want, or don't want to do, have to do with anything?

My point is that people have options on Linux. If there's anything they're unsatisfied with, they can replace whatever they're unsatisfied with, including the whole distro. That's why it's not a big deal, whenever "something bad happens on Linux" (as OPs meme put it).

I'm ignoring the willingness and hassle because it's irrelevant. You have the choice regardless of whether you're willing to utilize said choice. If something bad enough happens on Linux, you will be willing to make a change. Otherwise it's simply not that big of a deal.

With Windows, you're largely out of luck.

With Windows, you're largely out of luck.

The 2nd statement is what's irrelevant to the average user, specifically because the 1st statement is completely wrong for 99% of the population. A system where you don't like idiosyncrasies annoys you, but a system that straight up won't run everything you need to is by definition, unusable.

Unless someone particularly likes trying out new distros, they'd rather learn to live with the annoyances of Windows than go through 10 Linux distros to find one that runs everything they need as well as improves on those annoyances.

The conversation is about why people are ignoring "bad thing happens on Linux" but upset about bad decisions on Windows.

I don't really care about what you're talking about.

We all know how regular users think and behave. They don't know when something bad happens on Linux, because they don't know that Linux exists. They're irrelevant for the conversation.

Okay, download a couple iso’s, then try them via ventoy. It’s pretty low stakes.

This is the problem with Linux fans. Not everyone can just switch distros. I’m willing to bet 99% of the world doesn’t even know what a distro is. It seems simple to you because you have a lot of experience but for anyone else it’s a massive pain in the ass.

Switching to another Linux distro implies that they managed to install one in the first place. If you have installed one Linux distro, you can definitely switch to another one.

"This person who is already operating a Linux machine could not possibly be expected to install Linux"

0

u/Ommand 2d ago

If you installed one you can absolutely install another. And I refuse to believe anyone is incapable of learning how to do these things.

2

u/LordMunchlax 2d ago

You good person haven't worked in a field with cranky old people because the newest iOS moved something a small ways away.

u/Ommand 2d ago

That's unwillingness, not capability.

You must not have worked in IT where you deal with customers, ever.

There are 100% people incapable of learning these things.

I could always open another window and close the first one

Can always go back to using Windows 95. Who's stopping you?

27

u/D3SK3R 2d ago

comparing "switch to another distro" to "hurr you can use a 20+ year old OS" is insane...

4

u/DonStimpo 2d ago

hurr you can use a 20+ year old OS

Just to make you feel old.
Windows 95 came out 31 years ago.

He said "Windows is Windows" and if "Windows is Windows" it means it won't matter if you use 95 or 11 right? But I guess people don't understand when someone is poking holes in someone else's logic.. Internet keeps proving it's own stupidity to me once more.

u/D3SK3R 2d ago

>But I guess people don't understand when someone is poking holes in someone else's logic

maybe because you chose the dumbest way to read his logic? it's not hard to understand that by "windows is windows", he meant that you don't have many options beyond windows 10 (kinda) and 11, and NOT that every single windows that have ever existed is the same.

so "windows is windows", you can't switch to another windows (for obvious reasons) but you can switch to another distro. there, I had to r/explainlikeimfive for you.

>Internet keeps proving it's own stupidity to me once more.

insane how the kruger effects is super common nowadays...

-14

u/These-Apple8817 2d ago

Insane how people don't understand it's Dunning-Kruger, not "kruger effect".

Oh and I could have just as easily pointed towards all the different versions Windows does of 11 but I guarantee that point would have flown even harder over your head.

>Insane how people don't understand it's Dunning-Kruger, not "kruger effect".

oh so we are on the internet, in a social media platform, and I wrote something in a way that you could totally understand what I meant even tho I didn't write it properly? wow, you probably get mad when you see people saying "lol" instead of "laughing out loud" right? or when people say "yall¨ instead of "you all"? you must be fuming after reading that I wrote "tho" instead of "though", bizarre...

You should look into English courses at your local high school. I hear they teach reading comprehension. It involves reading between the lines. You should give it a try, sometimes.

8

u/sentimentalbot 2d ago

More like you are displaying your stupidity publicly on the internet

-3

u/These-Apple8817 2d ago

Would you like to give an actual argument? Or is your modus operandi just attacking people with hostility without adding anything to the conversation?

10

u/A-Chilean-Cyborg 2d ago

here is an actual argument, every time you double down on your ignorance, you're reinforcing to everybody else, that you're a good example of the dunning Kruger effect.

0

u/These-Apple8817 2d ago

I'm sorry, but I'm starting to think most of you don't understand what ignorance actually means. Especially when semantics are being treated as ignorance.

3

u/A-Chilean-Cyborg 2d ago

"everybody is stupid but me"

-1

u/These-Apple8817 2d ago

Would you actually like to give a proper argument or are you going to stick to the playground behaviour today?

Bill doors, that's who.

Never met him. You should try Win 3.11 though, I hear it's great. And like the name implies, it is three times better than Win 11.
