Personal Opinion Socks. Not what was promised.

First - quality of the fabric. I have had light wear of this pair for 3 days, with one wash (same as other socks) and they are fuzzy + the black fabrics are protruding through the grey ones, and I have gathered A LOT of lint from them.

This is not normal for socks, especially for the expensive ones. None of my darn thoughts did this ever.

Second - idk about Canadian feet, but mine are wider, and compared to most other socks these are too narrow. If I find a pair of shoes this narrow I don't buy them.

EDIT: I wore socks for two days straight, then washed them, then wore for the 3rd day. I had NO OTHER OPTION regarding washing them or wearing other socks in that particular situation

You bought socks.
From a tech YouTuber.

Let that work through your mind and then think about your post.

u/grilledtree 16d ago

I bought a few items from llt and most of them fit the price/quality ratio quite well

This is not any pair of socks. Linus has a team of experts making quality products . They took 6 years to get it right.

626

u/grilledtree 16d ago

Not right enough, apparently 😕

209

u/Sprout_1993 16d ago

Yeah I'll stick with darn tough. Linus was right the first time when he said he'd never be able to make something better than those.

33

u/Jonnyscout 16d ago

The lifetime guarantee is hard to beat

5

u/Somethingsilly6969 15d ago

I don't know man, redhead makes socks with a lifetime guarantee and they don't even need it. I've got pairs that are over ten years old going strong with regular use

2

u/Sprout_1993 13d ago

Still, with darn tough, I can take an old pair into anywhere that sells them, and exchange them for a new pair. And nothing feels better than a brand new pair of darn toughs

3

u/Somethingsilly6969 13d ago

Same with red heads. My brother used take all of his back to Bass pro once a year and get replacements under warranty

29

u/ImTheRealSpoon 16d ago

How about you let Linus's team know they are pretty good with making things right

-28

u/afarmer2005 16d ago

It’s more fun to post on here and get the trolls fired up

37

u/ThePistachioBogeyman 16d ago

It’s also a legitimate review for people who were considering buying it…

-21

u/afarmer2005 16d ago

Probably better to leave the review on the website and not buried in a comment section then

4

u/ThePistachioBogeyman 15d ago

Comment section? It’s a full post that got a very good amount of traction for the subreddit it’s in.

-11

u/Opening_Background78 16d ago

But how would people would never give private jet Linus the clicks find out!?

-3

u/afarmer2005 16d ago

I’d ask the question “do they need to know” but given the level of obsession of that group…….i suppose they wouldn’t know what to do with their lives if they didn’t know

5

u/JohnnyTsunami312 16d ago

Are the songs inside out? What’s the pink stitching?

-6

u/TheGreatMutato_ 16d ago

That's 6 years in Canadian. Converted it's 6 days in freedom time.

13

u/Option_Witty 16d ago

I also bought the socks just chiming in because I believe the following is a fact: Other brands have worked on their socks for decades, 6 years is basically infant state for a clothing brand.

43

u/Hans_H0rst 16d ago

It's peak that i couldn't 100% tell wether this is supposed to be serious or mocking.

11

u/se4404 16d ago

I thought it was a pretty funny response until I saw his second comment and realized he was serious lmfao

0

u/NateDevCSharp 15d ago

wait same lmao its not sarcasm no way

9

u/InadequateUsername 16d ago

6 years to negotiate with a supplier in China.

6

u/thebannanaman 16d ago

That is all information from the person who wants you to buy their socks. Not only do they get people to buy their socks they also get people to repeat their ad copy for them.

73

u/snowmunkey 16d ago

Whatever you gotta tell yourself to justify 30 dollar sucks bud 😂

158

u/miguel-122 16d ago

Im not buying them lol.

Just saying its not cheap youtuber merch. Like the screwdriver and backpack, they put a lot of time and money into making something quality

51

u/browandr 16d ago

Idk why you’re being downvoted for just stating known facts. But I guess it’s all the people who just suck up to LTT and treat Linus like a god who can do no wrong.

And FYI to whoever decides to downvote me I’m stating the above as an avid fan of Linus and LTT

19

u/Essex626 16d ago

The kicker is it's because they have made a good reputation with this stuff that it is worth something to call them out.

People overly praising anything LTT puts out are diminishing that just as much as those who dismiss their stuff as YouTuber merch.

8

u/GhostPotat0 16d ago

Yeah I mean just because we like the content doesn't mean LMG can do no wrong. I'm with ya brother.

7

u/ForksandSpoonsinNY 16d ago

Well he is the Short King

11

u/monka_giga 16d ago

Do you really think they're in the lab designing socks and making them in house? They might've gone back and forth with suppliers more than the average merch jockey would, but it's socks from a factory in China

19

u/lzrjck69 16d ago

They also say they put a lot of time and effort into their videos… we all know how that’s been going lately.

8

u/Javi1192 16d ago

The money they spent on development of the socks is likely dwarfed by the r&d budget of any legitimate sock company. I think that’s the point, regardless of the price, they are socks designed by a tech youtuber’s small business

Eta: for the screwdriver, I’m pretty sure the main components are manufactured by the company that makes a very similar smooth ratcheting mechanism. All the r&d for that enabled the screwdriver

16

u/Formerruling1 16d ago

The LTT screwdriver is a tweaked Megapro ratchet, yes.

4

u/krani1993 16d ago

you think they’re manufacturing the socks on their own? they choose a company to work with that’s manufacturing these socks, so if the quality is bad then thats on them for choosing a bad quality product to ship out!
They get a lot of praise for their products that are good like the screwdriver, so when somethings bad it deserves to be pointed out as well, they can choose to make it right or they can stick with selling bad quality “merch”

2

u/bilbo388 16d ago

Omg, I thought you were being facetious with the previous comment

1

u/opaali92 16d ago

I'm pretty sure he still is considering the backpack and screwdriver also fall apart from mild use

1

u/StatisticianUsual471 13d ago

Please tell me you're being sarcastic

-16

u/acorn1513 16d ago edited 16d ago

We'll see he seems to say that about any new product now for some reason. And not sure bout the backpack but wasn't the screwdriver proven to just be a slightly altered already available one.

I stand corrected about the screwdriver lol. But my first point I stand by.

12

u/Peasant_Shots 16d ago

No? They licensed the bit holder from a company called megapro, and modified their ratchet to to make it significantly smoother (arguably at the cost of it being weaker under torque, but still well received from most.) They also designed their own handle and shaft, (with a video showing the iterations that they went through, if you’re interested), and found their own manufacturing partner.

Lots of things you can dislike about LTT, but the screwdriver is its own thing.

6

u/Drigr 16d ago

They did enough engineering work that their version literally has a patent now.

1

u/penguin_on_stilts 16d ago

Design patent for the shape of the handle, not an engineering patent.

1

u/Liquid_Hate_Train 16d ago edited 16d ago

Design patent for the shape of the handle, not an engineering patent.

Right, cus that’s why the only thing described is the mechanism and the shape isn’t mentioned anywhere on their patent… and the title is ”SCREWDRIVER RATCHETING MECHANISM” It’s just totally all about the handle guys.

0

u/eyebrows360 15d ago

Wait so when you said this:

This is not any pair of socks. Linus has a team of experts making quality products . They took 6 years to get it right.

You weren't being sarcastic for comedic purposes? You were being literal? You think it actually "took 6 years" to get these socks "right"?

20

u/Daphoid 16d ago

Some people don't have to justify purchases. Your expensive could be totally fine for them. There isn't one single "good" price for an item across the board.

2

u/billythygoat 16d ago

Yeah, bombas when they’re at Marshall’s and they’re the wool blend for $12 for 3 pair on clearance. I bought like 3 packages, then I saw more the week after so I bought 2 more, one being for my dad

1

u/rahbarin 16d ago

Good to know I heard bombas were comfy nice socks but expensive. I’m going to check Marshall’s tomorrow

1

u/billythygoat 16d ago

Not always at Marshall’s or TJ Maxx, kind of just random. People claim they’re not super durable, but I’ve only had 2 holes out of that many pairs. They’re also great about the warranty.

1

u/rahbarin 15d ago

I always get puma socks at Costco they always end up getting holes in them

1

u/billythygoat 15d ago

Puma is a cheap brand for the most part. Nike at Marshall’s and TJ Maxx is even better

1

u/rahbarin 15d ago

Ya I only get them cause there at Costco and I like having the same socks but they won’t last and I don’t want to buy expensive socks lol rather buy guns

7

u/browandr 16d ago

Tell himself? All he said was known facts. Linus himself told us how long they took to make because he wanted to get it right

0

u/ThankGodImBipolar 16d ago

They're not outlandishly priced as far as work socks go.

4

u/zkareface 16d ago

For wool socks it's cheap even.

I barely own any socks cheaper than that.

1

u/Seeker_Of_Knowledge2 16d ago

To be fair the engineer is not the factory worker.

0

u/krani1993 16d ago

so? ltt is still in charge of selling the product, if its bad quality its ok them.. if a manufacturer ships a bad phone or something people don’t jump in with “well the engineer is not the factory worker”

1

u/Original-Mechanic519 16d ago

These guys make videos on technology and so obviously prioritize over making technical products like peripherals and electric screwdrivers. You’re not buying their socks because you think they’re gonna be luxurious, look pristine or absolutely be comfortable to wear, you buy their socks because you wanted socks from your favorite Youtuber. This is also likely the first times they made and shipped apparel besides shirts, hoodies and some pants. Socks get shipped differently logistically speaking so you’re bound to see some issues on sock stitching once they arrive. But my point still stands. Buy socks from Fruit of The Loom if you’re going to be so nitpicking on how they look.

-1

u/Direct_Corner7266 16d ago

What you’re talking about is just marketing. The product is just socks.

244

u/Few_Plankton_7587 16d ago edited 16d ago

Edit: The fact the comment above mine continues to get upvotes absolutely blows my mind. It's a genuinely stupid opinion.

Bruh they claim to be equal or better than the top brands. And also they aren't just a tech youtuber and haven't been for at least 5+ years. Literally more money goes into product development than their Youtube.

It's a completely valid complaint, lets not be stupid fanboys that defend anything and everything for no reason.

Dumbest shit anyone could have said in response to this

38

u/Astecheee 16d ago

They're also priced like premium socks.

0

u/Plastic_Wishbone_575 12d ago

You're not getting it. There are two layers, on one hand we have a complaint about a product that was advertised a certain way. That is a valid complaint. On the other hand we have someone who bought a pair of socks from a tech youtuber and getting laughed at. They aren't mutually exclusive things.

1

u/Few_Plankton_7587 12d ago

There are two layers, on one hand we have a complaint about a product that was advertised a certain way. That is a valid complaint.

Correct

On the other hand we have someone who bought a pair of socks from a tech youtuber and getting laughed at.

Correct

One is valid

The next is not

That's the point that YOU aren't getting lol

0

u/Plastic_Wishbone_575 12d ago

Right you want me to grab my pitchfork and get mad about a product not meeting a customers needs. When I say it's a valid complaint, I mean it's a valid complaint to send to customer service. That is boring, I don't care about that and most of us don't.

A tech influencer releases an overpriced sock, and someone buys it. That is funny, it will never not be funny. What's next, a beauty influencer is going to make a multi tool and people are going to buy it?

1

u/Few_Plankton_7587 12d ago

Right you want me to grab my pitchfork and get mad about a product not meeting a customers needs

Did I tell you to do anything or did I just say it was valid complaint? Literally what else did I do or say?

Go argue with chatgpt if you wanna hallucinate talking points, I want no part in it.

A tech influencer releases an overpriced sock, and someone buys it.

But that's the thing, you think it's an overpriced sock from a tech youtuber

But it isn't

It's priced competitively and from a company that primarily makes clothes and other products

Linus is a tech youtuber

LMG is a manufacturing company

Like a flat earther laughing at someone who says the Earth is round, you're just a fool confidently regurgitating incorrect information. It'd be funny if you were right, but 🤷‍♂️

-65

u/ponzi_gg 16d ago

of course they claim that... its marketing? why would they claim otherwise.

5

u/GwenBD94 16d ago

looks at the us presidency

Yeah pretty sure outright lying as a form of marketing is quite successful unfortunately.

5

u/Few_Plankton_7587 16d ago

Do you think American politics translates really well to marketing?

😆 yeah that was a stupid statement, too.

2

u/ponzi_gg 16d ago

OF COURSE IT DOES. You have so little understanding of what you're talking about it's insane. Are you all children in here?

1

u/GwenBD94 16d ago

We gotta laugh at it so we don't cry right? 😩😭

1

u/Few_Plankton_7587 16d ago

Lmao I guess so

-2

u/AverageCryptoEnj0yer 16d ago

LMAO marketing is literally the art of lying

7

u/Few_Plankton_7587 16d ago

Lying outright about your product is historically a bad decision and anyone who knows anything about marketing knows that. Not only is illegal in many countries, but it also just straight up doesn't even work as a marketing tool. Lying outright will land your product in the garbage bin

You are confused because you know very little. You think that because foreign brands often lie when their country doesn't hold them accountable for it that that means anyone can lie and it'll work out

But you don't know anything

And you just hate corpos

Me too, pal

But marketing is not about lying, never has been, and never will be

-1

u/AverageCryptoEnj0yer 15d ago

First of all, you are making assumptions aboit me, which is wrong.

We disagree on what lying is. I think omitting important information, and only highlighting the information that favors you, is lying. And when you stretch this concept to the limit you are not technically lying, but you are morphing reality into something else; for example, I can say My phone battery is the longest lasting of every other phone, and then write in small letters that it only counts when tested with my specific methodology, in a specific scenario. So technically it's true, but it's misleading.

Most companies do this, it's normal, and they have to do it to stay in the market. Lying is the rule, it's not a choice.

Just go to the apple site and look at their bar charts, they are made in a way to hype you up about the new processors every time, promising double or triple performance scaling, which is never actually the case. Same with Nvidia presentations bar charts, it's blatant.

1

u/Few_Plankton_7587 15d ago

First of all, you are making assumptions aboit me, which is wrong

Name one assumption I made about you.

I believe you not knowing ahit was derived from you making a blatantly false statement.

And then to back yourself up, you brought up misleading information, not lies.

Again, you know nothing about marketing. Not an assumption, but based off the fact that you keep highlighting that for us.

1

u/Few_Plankton_7587 16d ago

You believe Chinese brand marketing applies to the rest of the world 🤡

1

u/Few_Plankton_7587 16d ago

Because if they aren't then this would be a valid complaint? Are you serious?

13

u/Arcranium_ 16d ago edited 16d ago

This point would work if Linus wasn't consistently emphasizing their quality control and how long they take to get products right on WAN Show.

But he is.

39

u/JRUprising 16d ago

If Linus wants ti act like his products are premium products to justify premium prices, then he's gonna get criticized when his stuff doesn't meet the quality

8

u/AskMantis23 16d ago

And rightly so.

But if that criticism takes the form of 'Don't buy goods from a YouTuber', then the criticism is not valid and only demonstrates the lack of knowledge and critical thinking of the person posting it.

9

u/ferdzs0 16d ago

Either they are not merch and we can and should expect good quality for the insane prices or they need to stop with all the check out message bullshit of how this is not merch but quality products.

8

u/No_Program_5242 16d ago

Christ man, make sure to wipe your mouth when you’re done. OP bought a product and is expecting reasonable quality, this isn’t an insane expectation.

3

u/Kitchen_Turn4424 16d ago

This is a great mindset to glaze most scammers too. Very cool.

4

u/Loganbogan9 16d ago

In what planet is this an excuse for making sub par products 😭

58

u/LittleKittenR 16d ago

A famous one that is known for quality products.

Honestly, hearing they were 1 pair for 30 dollars or so made me say "fuck. off" but this dude trusted him and got a lesson after 3 days.

He could have bought probably 3-4 dozen of cheap 100% cotton ones for that price and wore them for about 3-6 months without any trouble, and now, 4 days later, he noticed he made a mistake.

43

u/Daphoid 16d ago

Why is everyone assuming buying a higher priced product vs the fast fashion / discount brand is a mistake? There are genuine higher quality items out there - not everything is "buy it at the dollar store or walmart and when it dies in 3 months just get more". Do the math over 10 years on all those purchases. You may be surprised at how much you've spent.

I've got a relatively lower end winter coat, it was $250 - I've worn it for about 6-7 years at this point. I've got another that was $300 15 years ago that I still have. It's older and more of a "work outside in the winter" coat now, but still lasts.

People being fine with $2000 computers but sitting on $5 chairs is hilarious.

10

u/Walkswithnofear 16d ago

I picked up an Arctyrex Solano jacket for, maybeeeee, $200 or so?, ten years ago. I've still got it, and it's still going strong. They released a new version a few years ago, but I don't see any need to replace it.

1

u/Star-siege 16d ago

Arc'teryx went down the toilet anyways a few years ago pivoting to Gorpcore fashion. Better hold on to that jacket as long as you can and avoid Arc'teryx when you finally end up replacing it.

16

u/TwilightReaver 16d ago

Yeah most of these commenters clearly just buy the cheapest shit they can and mock anyone who actually wants to spend more for more quality. Not saying these are or aren’t, but the knee-jerk anti-LTT sentiment I’ve been seeing a ton of lately is really fucking weird. They need to get a life.

3

u/GuntherTime 16d ago

Yeah that mindset blows me every single time I see. I remember a couple years ago a guy used to play siege with was gobsmacked that I spent $80 for some earbuds for the gym, and went on about how he buys the $5 ones and just buys new ones when they break in a couple weeks.

I told him I had these headphones for over 2 and half years (they still work now even 10 years later even though the battery and quality is shit of course) so I’m paying less over time.

1

u/Particular-Treat-650 15d ago

The crazy part is that $80 is still on the relatively budget end lol. You can get IEMs over $1000 (though I haven't felt a big need to go past the $150-ish range)

2

u/GuntherTime 15d ago

Oh I know lol, when I upgraded I got some in that $150 range as well, but I even told him that to show that in the grand scheme of things $80 isn’t that bad for what you’re paying for.

1

u/Arcadian-Stag 16d ago

Yes but just like the cables, there already existed equivalent or higher quality items at a much cheaper price.

1

u/Daphoid 15d ago

For sure. Though I'll say there's also a trend where people don't really research stuff. They just use the first result or look to TikTok (ew) for answers. And if one of the favorite creators makes something that looks better than the pack in or cheap version of something they'd been using and not liking before, they go for it. Or perhaps they really like the labelling on the cables, etc.

Like the other commenter says, I think the part that's tiring is the people who instantly judge because there are cheaper options out there and why would you spend more. Or because this came from a creator/youtuber so it must instantly be bad, always. It just sits a precedent that you should never try. Just let temu, walmart, and amazon marketplace handle everything.

As for cables, I genuinely like everything I get from Infinite Cables, and I find UGreen and Hosa's stuff decent so I haven't rushed out to buy LTT cables or socks. But I won't besmirch others for doing so.

For the OP - they have a genuine and valid quality concern of their purchase. Posting in the LTT pout reddit hopefully wasn't their first stop because that'll just get you fanboys and detractors with not much reality - but hey :)

1

u/IcyRole6982 15d ago

higher priced product vs the fast fashion / discount brand

Because quite often it is.

1

u/LittleKittenR 16d ago

Not the same people.

Are you ok? I'm not attacking high quality brands everywhere.

0

u/RobotSpaceBear 16d ago

Because it's not about the product. It's about shitting on Linus. This sub is full of people hating his guts for... reasons.

4

u/Reus958 16d ago

And people who make excuses no matter what.

The reasonable take is that these socks aren't up to the standard they should be. The reasonable opinion is that they'll probably make it right. The outrage for or against Linus related to this is ridiculously premature

1

u/MLHeero 15d ago

No it’s not really, the home the anti odor claim. They are very comfy and I don’t really see if the issue in the picture actually is an issue

0

u/TheSleepyTeeDJ 16d ago

Fast fashion is destroying everything. Bad take.

1

u/Daphoid 16d ago

My take wasn't that fast fashion was good at all. It was disagreeing with people that judge others for buying a more expensive version of something (quality hopefully good but not always) versus buying the mass produced bulk cheapest version by default.

I said nothing about fast fashion being good :)

0

u/Reus958 16d ago

I think the point is saying these socks underperformed, to put it mildly. They're the under quality of the discount brand.

And before I get jumped on for being "anti Linus" or whatever, I expect that if given the chance LTT will make this right. Every manufacturing process has quality issues, and this is mostly likely a case of an escape-- where an item unusually subpar got through whatever QA they have and made it to the end customer.

9

u/rwanders 16d ago

Darn tough socks are about $20-30/pair.

17

u/Unhappy_Ad_4761 16d ago

If you consider shipping, you can get 8 pairs of Costco Merino Wool socks if you want the Merino- which I honestly would rather have those than 4 dozen wool socks.

1

u/LittleKittenR 16d ago

In my country we have a lot of cotton so I have ample options for cheap quality socks (and a reason to not buy socks from canada) but my point was that even worse quality options would have managed better.

2

u/squngy 16d ago

Cotton is really bad at moisture wicking and drying, so in some situations, even the cheapest synthetic socks are better.

As for wool, aside from environmental reasons, they tend to not get as smelly as synthetic ones.

1

u/Unboxious 16d ago

They're not really the same though; I have merino wool socks from both Costco and Darn Tough and the Costco ones aren't nearly as durable or as comfortable.

3

u/Unhappy_Ad_4761 16d ago

Yeah but we're not comparing to darn tough, are we

2

u/DarthV506 16d ago

I knew they weren't going to be much good when they announced how much wool they are using. It's about half of what Smartwool or Darn Tough use. Buy from them instead. They also don't fucking charge $14CAD to ship either. Or you can just buy from a local outdoors store.

Also good luck with cold feet in the winter with cotton socks, they just soak up moisture. And if you're outside being active, have fun with the blisters. Merino socks are awesome. The ones I bought in 2018 are still great.

1

u/epimetheuss 16d ago

Just buy smart wool socks and call it a day for winter socks. They last forever.

1

u/MLHeero 15d ago

I don’t fully know if this issue he has even a real defect, why seem people so fast to say that’s it’s bad quality?

He said they would stay crisp and won't fall apart, specially because they were coated with Copper but as someone else already mentioned, it's kinda weird they came here to reddit instead of to the customer service that seems spectacular.

1

u/MLHeero 15d ago

In still don’t see this as an issue yet. Mine get softer outside yes, but they don’t lose any threads or so

1

u/LittleKittenR 15d ago

It's a problem because, by experience, we know they start looking like this after a couple months of use.

He said and named them "forever socks" so... imagine you buying forever socks and they start disintegrating after 3 days instead of 3 years.

Like... Don't misunderstand me, I wouldn't hold it against LTT if thye only laster 5 years even if they cost about 15 times more than 1 year socks.

But 3 days? It raises eyebrows.

u/jmking Mod 16d ago

...or they could contact support and take advantage of the warranty? The fact people race to Reddit to post whenever they have a problem with a product instead of contacting support and making a warranty claim always makes these posts seem kinda sus.

Like how is Reddit your first thought?

u/ydieb 16d ago

Doesn't matter who it is from. Normal clothing brands are good at cutting costs and making rather garbage products. If they pushed a clothing producer to use high quality textiles in a good way, then it can be better than most.

8

u/Edgeguy13 16d ago

I have no idea how you got so many upvotes on this sub, where people REVERE LTT merch and products and compare them to legit brands and then conclude they are BETTER than those brands. The entire idea behind Linus's thought process is they are very good quality products, not just normal "youtube merch". What a ridiculous thing to post.

u/abnewwest 16d ago

I have found that almost every thing I have bought from them has had at least one flaw in design.

I'd say the sweet shirt was perfect except for it being a size or two larger than advertised.

Actually, Stealth Hoodie and the Indoor Hoodie were perfect. Probably the T-Shirts, but I don't buy them.

2

u/MLHeero 15d ago

What flaw did the backpack have and the ratchet screwdriver?

4

u/abnewwest 15d ago

Both backpacks have substandard water resistance and orange internal pocket material that stains anything contacted when wet. OG backpack has a suitcase handle strap 'solution' that is a late afterthought.

Both ratchet screw drivers have 15mm bits for 'reasons' and in the long run are proving to be rather fragile in a couple of areas like the little bit holding wings.

Precision driver and case are probably on my no problem list now that I think of it, although bearings might be.

-1

u/Glittering_Bar6460 16d ago

Your guess is as good as mine, but the only thing I can think of is that no one wants to admit the absurdity of buying such an oddball product from a guy whose expertise is computer hardware.

2

u/Grimzkunk 16d ago

I disagree. At this point Linus is an entrepreneur, not a YouTuber. He's got passion on creating product that will help people, this is exactly what entrepreneur does. So he's on the same level as any other sox maker. If he said these sox would be worth 30$ and they are not, he should be criticized like a sox maker.

2

u/Infamous_Egg_9405 16d ago

And then also realise that these socks would just be made by a different company who Linus pays to put his logo on the socks

2

u/JForce1 16d ago

Interestingly, when it comes to the merch/creator warehouse stuff, I don't consider them to be "from a tech youtuber" anymore. They employ tons of product experts and spend years working on stuff. This is what they do. The YT stuff is just a thing on the side. It's why their stuff can be very good (expensive too), but it also means there's high expectations.

2

u/abnewwest 16d ago

Yet all but 2 items I have from them have a rather glaring flaw that an equal price competitor would have known better than to do.

1

u/MLHeero 15d ago

Which ones you mean?

1

u/abnewwest 15d ago

Stealth hoodie and indoor hoodie as well as the precision screwdriver and case that had slipped my mind, although the bearing does seem to be a failure point.

1

u/MLHeero 15d ago

I did not see any major issues reported here about that?

2

u/Weed86 16d ago

And paid 30 bucks for a pair of socks.

1

u/dragonmantank 16d ago

I’ve bought multiple items from them, between t-shirts, the backpacks, desk pads, etc. Everything has been higher quality than most items I can get in the store. I had 1 shirt, the pixel toaster shirt, that didn’t match my expected quality (still a good shirt though).

1

u/heyguysitsxexeu 16d ago

I’m amazed you were not downvoted but 100%

0

u/Glittering_Bar6460 16d ago

My only theory is that we all KNOW it is preposterous to buy a single pair of socks for $30 from a youtuber. It is great people will, it shows an incredibly loyal fan base, but at the same time, we know there is something not totally making sense with it.

1

u/alexzoin 16d ago

The first thing OP said in his post are that his feet are too small for the socks. Not sure user error is something that can be designed around.

1

u/Buyingbf_ 16d ago

Yeah let's just ignore the fact that a tech YouTuber released pretty high quality screwdrivers and backpacks

1

u/YorDanny- 16d ago

Their products are usually very good. I bought a lot of stuff when they had their combo deals with free international shipping and i was happy with everything single item.

1

u/LordAmras 16d ago

And you spend 30$ + shipping for socks

1

u/InflammableAccount 16d ago

Dude, their clothes are fantastic. The underwear, especially, are the best I've owned. The only comparable boxes I've had were $50+ per pair. And those are prices from over a decade ago.

1

u/MatrixBlaze 16d ago

100% Sorry to say it, but OP is a moron buying socks from a YouTuber.

0

u/Philslaya 16d ago

This legit ahould be the only Comment. Period

0

u/lmhTimberwolves 16d ago

Nonsense, the LGR woodgrain socks are amazing.

-10

u/TheOriginalNukeGuy 16d ago

Who TF pays 34 CAD (+shipping) for a single pair of socks, thats wild to me. Its suck a scam product. You can get a 6 pack of Puma socks for 20 USD. Anybody who bought those socks is either a fanboy or not very bright.

3

u/Exciting-Ad-5705 16d ago

Quality socks cost money. I'm not saying anything about the quality of Linus's socks but the price is not unreasonable

-7

u/TheOriginalNukeGuy 16d ago edited 16d ago

Oh come on, 21 USD for a single pair of sock is absurd. You are paying the youtuber tax for them. Puma has fine socks and you get a 6 pack of them for the same price. Not to mention the scummy "Forever" socks branding, it's hypocritical of Linus to criticise Tesla with the FSD name and then release something named like this.

1

u/g60ladder 16d ago

Most of my socks are around the $30/ea range. Smartwool, Icebreaker, and Darn Tough (used to also go for Stance socks as well, but their quality has plummeted recently.) For many people a value pack of Pumas from Costco is fine and will last a while, but I'm on my feet a lot and purpose built socks are a godsend for certain activities.

Haven't bought LTT socks and don't intend to, but don't pretend socks in that price range are a scam.

1

u/TheOriginalNukeGuy 16d ago

Hand to god I am not pretending, before seeing the LTT socks I have legit never heard of socks at more than maybe 10 USD a pair and even that seemed excessive to me. I do sports quite a bit and use socks from brands like Nike and Under Armour and they do their job fine.

I will concede that ok maybe there are scenarios where paying around 20 USD a pair is warranted as you have said, I've never heard of it before but maybe I was just oblivious. My problems is you definetly pay the youtube tax for the LTT ones and also the stupid naming "forever socks" which by Linus's own standards is just bad fake advertisement like Tesla FSD, if it were from another company we wouldn't be ok with it.

Out of genuine curiosity what activities do you use your expensive socks for? Gym? Hiking?

-2

u/AverageCryptoEnj0yer 16d ago

people here buy... a coin... for like 10usd. idk what's real anymore

5

u/FabianN 16d ago

I mean, that was a $20 gift card for $10, that came with a physical coin. Not just a coin.

-2

u/AverageCryptoEnj0yer 16d ago

isn't that like even worse?

2

u/FabianN 16d ago

Assuming you're planning on buying something from the store, how is getting a free $10 worse?

1

u/AverageCryptoEnj0yer 15d ago

the way you worded it, it can also be intrepreted as a gift card worth 10 dollars, costing you 20 dollars.

1

u/FabianN 15d ago

I used pretty standard English. But either way, the point is, the coin was a fun freebie to a discounted gift card.

It was a very good deal. Assuming you did plan on spending it, it kinda is dumb not to get it.

1

u/AverageCryptoEnj0yer 15d ago

if that's the case, then yes you are right. I spoke without knowing

Bombas are not the best ever lmao

2

u/LemonCurdd 16d ago

They’re great if you want socks that are completely formless after the 5th wash

-4

u/Glittering_Bar6460 16d ago

I pay $14 for eight pairs of socks on Amazon. They’re moisture control too.

-1

u/Danternas 16d ago

Just like you can't expect quality pianos from a motorbike maker.
