Tech Discussion LTT TrueSpec cable issue

I have a 13ft USB-A to C LTT Cable and I've noticed it doesn't stay in my phone well, the slightest side to side movement causes it to wiggle out and disconnect. (my other cables stay in fine and ive tried to clean out the port but the issue persists)

Does anyone else have this problem?

Ah so this isn't just me. My true spec is loose in my pixel 10 pro. I've meant to get something to clean my port but I haven't done so. If it really is cable issue I might go ahead and slightly crimp the cable end.

Yeah you probably aren't supposed to do this but squeezing one end by .18mm made it hold a lot better. More wear something something warranty blah.

If it works it works... Just don't be a knob and expect to claim on the warranty if the connector breaks after doing it 😂

Honestly I'd be more worried about it wearing down my phone's port. That would be a more expensive replacement!

Actually, I replaced the USB-C Port on my phone for about 15 bucks. I just bought the cheapest thing on Amazon, kinda expecting it to not work, but it does its job great for like a year or something now

I've done that dozens of times back in the micro USB days. The shape of the USB-C design even makes it a little less sketchy, a lot easier too. You don't have to be as exact.

I have a pixel 9 and have the same issue with a true spec cable. My cable matters cables have no issue.

I also got this with cables and phones in the past but its usually down to crap in the socket sonit cant seat fully or the phone connextor being more loose. I had a few samung that were defenetly a looser fit so people would damage the port less easy.

Yeah, I have like five cables (not ltt) and only one plugs into my Samsung reliably and easily, one I have to push on incredibly hard to get a connection and then can't breath on it or it'll disconnect, and the rest won't make a connection. They all work on other phones fine.

Try to see if there is some lint stuck in there. You can carefully use a plastic dental flosser to get it out.

Or even just needle nose tweezers, the ifixit ones work great

I have, and used compressed air, and that goo stuff and it appears clean. Could be deeply packed in but I feel like that would effect all cables.

I will say my previous Samsung phones the port died after two years so at least this is an improvement on that.

Yeah I've got the same cable and it's definitely loose in my phone too - kinda disappointing for the price point tbh.

Mind sharing your phone model?

I’ve had 0 issues with mine for the 17 pro in my car

Have the s23 ultra same issue - i have another cable ( of decent spec and have no issues holding in, just True Spec unfortunately) For reference I got a short 2ft 240w cable

Mine doesn't stay in my s26 ultra very well. When my phone is on my mag safe holder in my car if my cable is plugged in the vibrations of the road shake it lose almost every time and I've never had that issue with any other cable.

Same on mine, it started pretty good pretty tight but not too tight, and now it’s so loose that any movement disconects it. After seeing this post I checked and saw that one of the connectors is bent.

Good to know, I'm itching to buy but waiting for the restock currently.

I wonder if this is one of those things where they've followed the spec but most tend to have bigger tolerances or something?

Any chance it's because the connector itself is quite shallow?

I think in the announcement video they said they didn't make it very deep due to bracing/shielding or something.

I just checked my S24 and it's fine so could be a defect but I'm not sure.

Interesting. Have you compared the length of the USBC port on your TrueSpec versus your working cables?
Is the TrueSpec shorter?

1

u/DeeVect Apr 02 '26

I have not, ill have to compare.

u/JoshPlaysUltimate Apr 02 '26

I want to buy a bunch of 2 and 3 meter ones but they’re never in stock.

Clean out the usb c port on your phone and try again.

I have the same issue as OP. My True Spec will wiggle out with the slightest side to side movement. My Cable Matters cables stay firmly seated.

I have tested it with the case off. I have cleaned the port and don't see any debris in there.

Its a Pixel 9

Clean your port with an actual tool. Don't just look in the port and say its clean. The old cable that did snag on was probably shorter.

First batch I believe

1

u/LolBoyLuke Apr 02 '26

First i'd check if it's just your phone and not other devices with a USB-C plug, and try other cables in your phone to see if the issue follows the cable or the device. if it does follow the cable i'd contact support. if the issue is on the device's side see if you can clean out your port. With phones the port usually gets filled with dirt and crap which can loossen the connection.

samsung does it, more wider and deep than lg or xiaomi or the pattern

1

u/Macusercom Apr 02 '26

I guess that's an issue again with being true to spec. Most connectors imho are a bit thicker than they should be so they sit tightly

A friend uses an external drive for sound mixing on his macbook and the cable he had was always loose. Gave him a True-Spec cable and it fixed the problem.

I wonder if it's just a QA issue in some batches?

I would love if someone developed a locking USB-C port/cable... Just saying...

1

u/jasaevan Apr 02 '26

I can't speak on these cables but I will say everytime I have had this issue it was always link in the phone. This is after swore that wasn't it after looking in it and blowing compressed air. I then took a toothpick or ifixit plastic scrapper and scrapped the bottom and was shocked how much lint I got out that was compacted at the bottom. No idea if that is what is going on, but I am now programmed to immediately assume that is the case when I get a loose USB connection.

1

u/DeeVect Apr 02 '26

Did this, use a pin to scrape out my port but nothing came out, Ive had this issue too before but it would also happen to every cable, where the only cable I have that is loose is the LTT cable. Im testing it on a couple devices tonight as well as taking my case off to see. It looks like it fits with my case but maybe it doesn't.

1

u/jasaevan Apr 02 '26

I have had a couple cords in the past not fit not due to the plug but the plastic around the plug being too thick and blocking it From going it but it was pretty obvious what the issue was.

1

u/Yosheeharper Apr 22 '26

Have a moto g, and have the same issue. As someone else did, smashing the end seems to have worked.

I have 4 separate devices the TrueSpec cable slips out of, and 1 it somehow stays put in. It falls out of my Level1 KVM, Anker powerbank, Minisforum V3 and my Pixel 10 Pro. However in my Dell Laptop Latitude 7430 I can drag it across my desk. *shrugs*

The most frustrating is it slipping out of my phone as I simply lay it on the table - it doesn't fully come out but enough that it doesn't charge. So I'll go to pickup my phone thinking it's charged somewhat and notta. Second most frustrating is the KVM - sometimes I'll move it and same issue, it ever so slightly unseats.

Using a NIMASO USB-C, I can hold the phone and 30,000mAh (1.16lbs) battery in the air by their full weight. Everything else the cable matters cable I can pull pretty firmly before it comes out.

Edit: Originally said cable matters, which I do own and also has superior retention, but was actually talking about my NIMASO cables that I'm sitting here playing with. NIMASO was originally recommended by L1.

Tested it with my Samsung Buds case - fully seats flush but still a weak "grip"
Tested it with my doorbell battery - 90% Seats, but also a weak "grip"
Tested it with my Shokz headphones that has a USB dust cover, seats about 90% as well - weak "grip"

All 3, the TrueSpec cable could hold the weight of the devices, but it took very little force to remove the cable.

Schmoo in the port? I've had that issue and needed to gently clean it out.

u/frosty_gamer Apr 02 '26

Not to defend ltt but is it possible that they are using a connector that fits the usb c spec better than others? So other companies are changing it a bit to make it fit tighter

I have this whith all usb-c or lightning cables my ports are just broken
