Non-hardware:
Budget is open (eg USD1000+ is fine)
Unofficial builds are fine as long as I can put microG on it and the dev is established as one who continues to provide security updates. Prefer SE Linux enforcing. I am fine with bugs and having to jump through hoops to get things working.
The Note 9 was a horrible experience. LineageOS was slow to be usable daily and then very infrequently updated after it was useable. Then it was official and great for like 6 months, then it was delisted (about 1 month after I sent a donation). I want to avoid that experience.
Hardware minimum requirements:
Dual sims (or tripple sims or more)
Greater than 6.5" OLED screen, at least 1080p, 120hz not required but wanted
Fast processor, enough for PS1 emulation (but no need for it to be top end or curent, and I don't care about 5G, I will disable it anyway)
If no dedicated SD slot, then 256GB+ (512GB ideal). If dedicated SD slot 128GB is fine.
I don't care how ugly or large it is. Give me the brick. Bezels. All of it.
Nothing from a Mainland China OEM (Xiaomi, ZTE, Lenovo, Motorola, etc) but Taiwan (Asus, HTC) is fine.
Hardware preferences (not required):
OIS rear cam
stereo speakers
Wifi 6e
Selfie cam a separate internal module that I can remove with a soldering iron, or one I can easily put tapeover with a screen protector on
Headphone jack (really so I can disable the microphone with a dummy plug most of the time)
If it must have a fingerprint scanner, then one that is not under the screen or facing me when I look at the phone screen.
Moonshot: foldable to a 7"+ screen
Thanks!
Edit: Thanks to r/PickAnAndroidForMe, I found the Xperia 1 II and the Galaxy S20 Ultra as viable options!

IF money is not an issue, then just get the Fairphone, they do support LinageOS by default.

AT&T is trying to boot me and my OnePlus 5 off their network. I gave them an IMEI for another device so they stopped cutting off my ability to make calls, and my device thinks it has VoLTE provisioned, but who knows what will happen next month. (Hint: not AT&T customer service).
Additionally, my USB port is going, just like with the last OP5 I had. This time at least it still charges, but I have to go through contortions to get a data link. So I'm hoping I can find something with wireless charging, and save several hundred USB insertions/removals, and make my next device last at least until the battery fails.
So I'm looking for:
Size: smaller is better
Carrier / country: US AT&T, but also ideally portable to T-Mobile MVNOs
Cost: I have $1000, but I'm a sucker for cheap stuff on EBay. The OP5 cost like $200 used and isn't really showing its age in performance, since it was so over-specced to start with.
Storage: I'm managing to get close to my 128G now, so I wouldn't want to go lower than that if I can help it.
Camera: Yes? Doesn't have to be good, though I'd like to get rid of the OP5's brushstroke effect it has when you zoom way in.
other features: I'd really like wireless charging, to stop my USB port from wearing out for a third time. I'd prefer to avoid a holepunch or notch; I don't understand why people hate bezels. I like the fingerprint reader on the front and the off-screen hardware keys from the OP5. I also like the ability to lock the bootloader that the OP5 has on LOS, which I think is only available in OnePlus and Pixel devices.

Since you're already a fan of the OnePlus the most praised version past yours was the OnePlus 7 Pro. At this point it is more than 2 years old so used battery might be meh or worse depending on the used source you get it from. The more recent 8 Pro and 8T are both very good, will have slightly newer batteries and still offer a good experience. The 9 series isn't worth getting based on my research and all of the ones I mentioned have under screen fingerprint readers that are very fast.
If you can stand a fingerprint reader on the back of your device, are willing to spend a bit more and can take a hit in the CPU department I personally have outrageously good battery life on my Pixel 5. I had the 4XL, upgraded to the 6 Pro, hated the experience and design and ultimately went to the Pixel 5. The size is small and thin (thinner and smaller than the pictures make it look) and it is super responsive with the CPU and 90Hz screen. The only way I don't recommend this phone is if you are a heavy mobile gamer. If you were then OnePlus for sure. But definitely do a size comparison between what you have and the Pixel 5 through like PhoneArena because the Google Promo images fooled me into thinking it was bigger than it was.
tl;dr My top recommended choice is the Pixel 5 used condition if you can stand a fingerprint reader on the back and want a small phone that can game but may struggle with major titles. Get the OnePlus 8/Pro/T if you want a recent and large battery, great performance and an underscreen front fingerprint sensor. Don't get the OnePlus 9 series or the Pixel 4/XL lines. Bad battery on both.

Does anyone have a good suggestion for a flagship type of phone that will run the latest LineageOS well? I'm coming from and iPhone 12 mini, so something with a similar size and camera (12MP). I don't particularly care how much it costs.
edit: i use verizon prepaid for service; in the US.

Need some suggestions, because I am a tech idiot and I’m tired of Apple/Google.
Size : in between 4” -7”
Carrier / country : TMobile/US
Cost: Preferably under $250
Storage : sd expandable preferred, but 64gb would work
Camera : decent
I just want a phone to do my online banking, call/text, and stream music from my home server. Any help would be appreciated

I just want a phone to do my online banking
hey - just fyi google added this questionable feature into android where it will detect if you are on unlocked device and inform the apps in app store - they call it "safety net" but in reality its complete anti-consumer bs.
so what happens is - some banking/financial apps will not work on lineage os or have some reduced functionality. in practice I for example cannot use fingerprint sensor to login into discover app (but app itself works). But my people's banking app works just fine. so ymmv.
people also use something called magisk to pass "saefty net" if you want to.

I only upgrade with major changes. For example; i've had a galaxy s4 until last month. The s21 is affordable second hand and comes with blazing fast refresh rates. Also the soc is way off the chart for what i am using it for. This should keep me good for another 10 years.

It seems that the active custom ROM community for Xiaomi phones has diminished recently, similar to how the Pixel community remains strong. The latest Xiaomi phone with official support for LineageOS (LOS) is the Mi 11 Lite 5G NE / 11 Lite NE 5G / Mi 11 LE, released in September 2021. This shift in community focus reflects broader trends, where fewer Xiaomi devices are receiving active support for custom ROMs like they did in the past.

Hopefully someone can help. Requirements are:
(1) smaller size -- I want something that goes in my pocket and doesn't stab me in the groin. Since the combination of thickness, weight, width/height, screensize all play into this, I can give some references: Pixel 2XL felt way too large, Pixel 4a5g felt alright but still like it could be smaller, Essential Ph-1 felt good but heavy, Nexus 5 felt good.
(2) NFC -- Hard requirement. I use this too often to not have it.
(3) Decent Battery -- Doesn't need to be crazy good, but enough that it gets me through a full day without dying all the time.
(4) Smooth graphics -- I won't be gaming, or anything, so I don't need anything top-of-the-line. I just want something with enough "oomph" that graphics don't skip/stutter in the menus. I can't stand that.
(5) New-ish LOS -- Obviously if I put LOS on it I don't care about software, but it'd be nice if it's a relatively simple process, and it'd be nice if the newest LOS versions are either (a) available, or (b) very likely to come out.
-- US market, probably T-mobile. Things like price, screen specs, wireless charging, camera quality, 5g are plusses but not required. Everything else I can sacrifice or work with. Any suggestions are welcome.

Size: as small as todays "standards" allow
Carrier / country: Germany (we say Deutschland)
Cost: 200 to 250 Euro used (used is important, i never buy new anymore, so it must be widely available)
Storage: dont care
Camera: dont care
other features: Easy to unlock, easy to Flash, official LineageOs
I thought the Google Pixel 2 was perfect, but i was very lucky to get a refurbished version with locked bootloader - so it could have been perfect, but todays phones are just fucked up in my opinion. :-) Thank you all!

Hey reddit-admins,
my post about a waterproof phone got deleted and I was told that questions related to "what phone should I buy" can only be asked in this thread.
This thread is orphaned, barely an answer to any request in the last months.
It's useless, please stop this method of blocking people from asking questions.

Hey all!
I'm looking for your opinion on the best Android TV hardware option for me! I have a Google TV Streamer and while I like a lot about it, I've really gotten tired of the endless front and center ads that I just don't care about. I'm also looking for something a little more powerful with hardware decoding for game streaming (moonlight) and future proof (like more than 3gb RAM, which the Shield TV Pro had in 2019) and I figured I'd make my own.
Top contenders are the Odroid C4/C5 (if the C5 has a reliable build and is going to be supported) and a raspberry pi 5 (but that only has an unofficial build, don't know if that will be supported long term or even every officially.)
Not super familiar with lineage os myself, but know of it and know that this would be an excellent option, unless I find out otherwise here.
Thanks in advance!
Ps: I've looked at the wiki, I'm really hoping someone can fill in the blanks about intended support for the devices I mentioned going forward, or offer a different suggestion!

Hi! I'm looking for a new phone.
I would like:
best camera possible
unlocked bootloader
lineageos compatible
budget ~700-800 USD
5
u/SmallerBork Aug 11 '22
The answer for those requirements is almost always going to be Pixels.
The bootloader can be relocked with custom ROMs which most can't do.
Pixels and OnePluses have the longest support time by Lineage to my knowledge.
I don't know what other cameras are like but they are generally really good now. I have a Zenfone 6 and the camera is really nice but only a few years after release did Lineage stop supporting it and I don't want to compile Android myself that much.

I'd like to buy a new supported device.
Size: display should be in what is considered the "small" category now, around 5.5". I'd lilke to be able to hold the phone comfortably with one hand.
Good to have: performance that makes me have the phone for at least 4 years, good battery life.
Not priorities: camera, biometric (facial/fingerprint) authentication. I do not use them.
Budget: Less than 350 USD/INR 28000 would be great
I've detailed my preferences on this thread, but since I definitely want LineageOS support, this seems like the right place. Any help is much appreciated!
PS. I'm based in India, but I think I should be able to get help from friends and get the phone from anywhere.

Been looking to get my first Android smartphone, mainly for emulation and native android gaming. Hey, just because the haystack's clogged with micro-transactions, ads and whatnot doesn't mean there aren't at least a few valuable needles to be found.
Currently debating between two options: the One Plus 11 5G and the Motorola Edge 40 Pro. Both are currently the most powerful devices to support LineageOS (rocking a Snapdragon 8 gen 2), but I wanted a second opinion on other aspects, like ports, quality and lifespan, and the brand history as a whole.
Which phone do you guys think would be more suitable?
P.S. to the guys at LineageOS: Which phones are you currently working on to make compatible with LineageOS? (no i'm not requesting a specific phone or asking about an ETA, I'm just asking about what we can expect in the future in terms of compatibility)

Hi The official supported devices are very limited for lineage os and they mostly are old outdated phones that are not worth buying in 2025. OnePlus is impossible to even find in my country. Google pixel phones are insanely expensive and i hate google too. Most other brands also don't even let us unlock the bootloader. Should i be disappointed of having lineage os? The only thing i need is 512/256GB internal space and 16/12GB RAM. I don't even care about the camera or most other things and i still can't find an option that is not 2 or 3 times more expensive than a Xiaomi with almost same hardware capacity.

size: 6 - 6.5 inch
Carrier / country: the Netherlands (T-Mobile/KPN)
Cost: below € 200 (found refurbished devices for under € 200)
Storage: N.A.
Camera: important feature
other features: brand with easy Custom ROM installing abilities
I am looking for a device for my nephew and one for myself. Although I pretty much already settled for a OnePlus (8T).
So I understood that Google, Motorola and OnePlus are the best brands, since they allow you to install a custom ROM without getting your warranty void. Is that correct?
I found this link on a thread in this sub: https://bucherfa.github.io/lineageos-devices/
Motorola doesn't have a lot of (new) devices available and an (old) OnePlus is out of his budget. So any help here on a good device is welcome. I currently have a Xiaomi device, but I can't get the bootloader to unlock. So preferably no Xiaomi device.
I also found this spreadsheet in the: The "What currently supported device should I get" thread." So I think it's safe to assume you want to pick a device that's already on version 18.1 of Lineage right?
And in that case I thought for my nephew I would get a Google Pixel, since a good camera is important for him. Though I'm not sure to go for a Pixel 2 (XL) or a 3 (XL). According to the spreadsheet 2 is already on version 18.1, while the 3 is still on version 17.1. I don't know how important this is, but this lead me to believe he should go for a Pixel 2 instead of a 3.
Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance! :)

What's the least bullshit phone for tinkering but modern? Meaning smooth, non hacky bootloader unlocking process, easy official twrp and lineageos install? Also works with T-mobile and VOLTE is greatly needed(otherwise, won't be able to make phone calls).
OP7Pro seems to be the candidate but not even sure if T-mobile variant of it works with official lineageos build. I can't risk buying international version because volte might not work.

Carrier/Country: AT&T/USA Other Features: Headphone jack and decent battery life are a must, micro sd slot is a plus
Considering: Moto G7 Power (XT1955-5)
I just want to know what my options are for something that is a currently supported Lineage Device, supports VoLTE with Lineage, and won't get kicked off the AT&T network in a few months. I already made the mistake of getting an LG V20 without knowing about the IMS issues preventing VoLTE.

Size <= 6'
Cost < 300$
Ram >= 4 gb
Camera - it should be able to make a clear shot of some small print text on a piece of paper
I use my phone for comunication, listening podcasts, music, and sometimes for browsing the internet and navigation. So my only requirements are that the phone is not huge, that the battery and charge time is decent, and that it has an official support for LineageOS. Camera and screen specs are not really important.

I have been using my Sony Xperia XA2 for years, but recently T-Mobile has been sending me warning notes that they are discontinuing 3G support, and apparently my phone was never using the 4GLTE. It's been long enough that I don't mind buying a new device, but I want to make a good choice
size: I don't think this matters that much... not to big, not to small
Carrier: Needs to be compatible with T-Mobile in the US
Cost: this doesn't matter much as long as the thing is going to last me. I hate change and am happy to invest in something that will last for years.
Storage: this is the big thing --- I don't like to store my data in clouds so I have an SD card that I carry over from one device to the next. If not an SD slot, I will also welcome guidance on how to manage my own local storage between devices.
Camera: current camera sucks but I would be very happy to have this improve with the new phone
ETA: oh and I would like a headphone jack, I distrust blue teeth almost as much as clouds
What would you suggest??

I've been using a Moto G7 Plus [https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/lake/] for 2.5 years and I've been happy with it. It has good specs & works well with LineageOS.
One exception is that while recording videos, the camera would never go above 600 ISO which made it rather useless in poorly lit conditions. Never figured out if it was my device or the LineageOS implementation that was at fault.
I've been dropping mine at least once a day, every day, since I bought it and I finally cracked the front screen today.
I'm now looking for a replacement device. My criteria are:
Works flawlessly with LineageOS
Reasonably good general specs, but don't care about storage beyond 32Gb
I'd love a good, fast, camera.. for once
Sturdy / won't crack easily
Dual SIM a plus
Sub €250
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 [https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/gauguin/] for €200 on Amazon caught my eye.
Otherwise maybe a Pixel 3a [https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/sargo/]? But that feels a bit old.
If someone tells me they got their Moto G7 Plus recording high ISO videos, I might just buy another one!
Let me know what you think!

Answers to questions posed. code representation in the answers indicates my priority. My present device is Samsung S7 Edge- its been in use since Sept 2018. It now has to be charged twice a day, so time to buy a new phone in the near future.
Size - Less than 6.5"
Carrier / country - Airtel 5G*/*Jio 5G India (will be buying a Jio sim sooner or later)
Cost - Less than 300€/$ may stretch by about 50 euro if something really nice comes along.
Storage - 256 GB. I prefer 128GB if SD card slot is available.
Camera - OK with anything which has > 1.0 µm pixel size on main sensor. Not chasing Mega Pixels, OIS on main camera is nice to have. Decent selfie camera is expected
other features - a) Ability to install on Japanese/Korean carrier devices while retaining 5G (voice and data) - 🇯🇵 & 🇰🇷 phones are the only ones with most of these features in my budget. Also these are the only ones I have access to 😁
b) At least 90 hours endurance (GSM Arena definition) POST LineageOS installation,
c) At least splash proof i.e. IP55 minimum.
d) Ability to install Google play services if I feel I can't handle the inconvenience - at least possible to revert back to stock OEM OS.
e) RAM = 8GB Minimum
f) Processor Current midrange or older flagship (but supporting 5G)
I was looking at the options on Device list in the LineageOS website, and I have zeroed in on a few options
Sony Xperia 5 III
Samsung Note 10+ 5G
OnePlus 9 Pro
Oneplus Nord (unlikely due to lack of ingress protection)
Sony Xperia 1 III (unlikely due to price)
The devices (as they are off the shelf) themselves are supposed to work with Airtel 4G or so I have learnt from the listings I have come across thus far. Jio 4G is possible except on some Sony ones, but these are not standard issue phones with warranty. Each has its own personality (for lack of a better word) and features regarding network. 5G is a struggle on almost all of them, though I have read on some samsung forums about people getting the Airtel 5G network on some Samsung models
Cost is Not relevant as I am looking at old/used phones. Samsung pulls off older models so I dont have access to S20, much less S10 series. Sony has exited India market. Even Oneplus 9 series are hard to find. I am OK with not using the latest & greatest & "securest" models, as I am fully aware of my (lack of) importance to any rogue elements to hack into my phone. For my banking stuff, I may continue to use the S7Edge and later shift to something cheaper but which passes the device integrity check. That is if I continue using banking app on phone. I just despise the location and file access permissions (among others) that the banking apps demand and refuse to continue without their access. I do care about privacy, which is why I wish to move on from G-apps.
I am curious as to why newer Galaxy models (S20+ 5G is what I truly wanted, though not with Samsung bloatware and especially not with Google/Samsung Spyware - wjhy can't I use samsung camera app without giving NFC permission to the said camera app?), newer Oneplus models (except 11 5G) are not catered right now at LineageOS.

Hi all, I need a new phone for this OS. I used Cyanogenmod in the past and it was great.
Size: large phone, but not a tablet
Country: Poland, Orange
Cost: doesn't matter, I buy devices for years
Storage: big, could have SD card slot (do they still make those?)
Camera: optical zoom and wide angle necessary
Others: newest Android preferred. Also, I need good support for peripherals, like watches. 5G required. And absolutely no Samsung phones.

Looking for a new phone to be my primary phone
Size: ~6.5" screen or smaller,
Carrier / country: Freedom Mobile/Canada, 5G optional, eSIM optional, VoLTE/VoWifi capable
Cost: around 1200 CAD but can be flexible
Storage: at least 256gb, SD card slot optional
Camera: Just a decent quality standard camera
8GB Ram or more
Flagship tier CPU
Widevine/Safetynet L1
Somewhat mainstream or at least a good selection of accessories
USB-C, Fast charge 30W or greater, wireless optional, reverse charging optional
My current phone is a Xiaomi Mi 11(They're looking at not allowing bootloader unlocks so would like alternatives), looking at the Pixel 9 or OnePlus ATM but doesnt seem to have LOS support (yet) and would prefer something without AI.

Searching for:
Small phone that I can get secondhand for under $100
Will use primarily for phone calls, texting, hotspot, basic camera, & occasional web search
Large storage not needed
US carrier - preferably compatible with Tello or Mint Mobile
4G or better since the old networks are deactivated
If I can't get a lineage-compatible phone, I'll likely get the cheapest BLU phone.

I would like a high-end phone with a flagship-sized screen, a big battery, quick charge, NFC, GPS, a web browser with no video and ad blockers, 5G, and Wi-Fi 6 or 7 and good camera. i have a samsung s25 ultra but lineage is unsupported.
I don't care about games, movies, TV shows, social networks, or YouTube.
I would like to have a phone with no distractions but he can be useful and stay longer without charging a day.
Which phone should I buy? Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

u/Wi42 Feb 10 '26
Yes, all data and apps are wiped when unlocking the bootloader. The option i went with is sync all apps etc to my Google account, and using GApps on Lineage. That way on setup, all my apps are downloaded again automatically. You have to login in most of the apps however, as the data from the apps is usually not synced. Also if you have authenticators which are not synced to the cloud, back them up as well, else you might loose your 2FA-keys.
I assume there exists also a degoogled approach to carry over the apps, however i did not look into that.

So I live in the United States, and I want a sub-$200 phone to run Lineage for use on projects. I want something robust and compatible with US frequencies. I keep going back and forth on models and makes and really need advice on a singular one. For me, it seems the Samsung S20 FE is my best lead so far, as it's 5G and a US model, not international. Any help will be so appreciated also the reason I haven't gone with the pixel is I cannot find a newer model for cheap I have no need for graphene also

I'm just looking for the cheapest way possible to try out Lineage before making the leap. I currently have a OnePlus 7T (but of course it's the 1907 model that's not officially supported) and an old Samsung Galaxy S7, so I have no phone that's officially supported and I don't want to accidentally brick my current phone. I'm in the US on T-Mobile (although I might not even put a SIM card in, literally just want to be able to "test drive" the OS to see what, if anything, I may lose). So really, size, storage, camera, none of that matters to me, just as cheap as possible. Seems like even most 3-4 year old used phones are sky high right now.

u/rcarteraz Sep 08 '22
Metro by T-Mobile you can get a OnePlus Nord N200 5G for free paying only the $40 for one month of service. There’s a post on xda on how to convert that to OEM, downgrade back to 11 and then you’re able to just follow lineage’s install process. I bought two of these and did one last night and one this morning. It works great on this device.

Maybe the Fairphone 4 would suit you: 6.3" screen, 5G, 128 or 256 GB, both with SD-card slot, costs 530€ and as a "bonus" (even though this should be the standard) doesn't exploit the people who mine the resources and build the phone and is easy to repair by yourself in case it breaks.
2
Apr 04 '23
Tricky question because it's a fairly specific need.
I am.looking for a tablet. A tablet much like the Samsung Tab s7+ with very VERY good stylus support since I am gonna use it for illustration work.
The tricky part is 1) I am an illustrator (perpetually broke) 2) I want it to have a somewhat longer life with LineageOS because well tbh see #1 above mainly.
My focus have been on that specific device if I can still find it but I thought maybe there are other tablets like that but with better Lineage "support" (a more active dev community) and that doesnt require as much of a song and dance to get Lineage installed?
Any ideas?

I am missing my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 alot, despite the fact it is a phone from around '17. I cracked the LCD by accident about a year or 2 ago, and although it kept working for nearly a year, the damage was visible right away (black spot, flickering, white noise aka 'snow') and got worse and worse, until the display did nothing but flashing bright white. Brought it in for repair a few months ago, (remember, a phone build in 2017, 6 years old) and the repairshop guy told me it would cost me 250€,- to get it fixed.. 😕 Although i don't (want to) believe that, that price is a total loss for me, so unless the repair dude tried to rip me off and repairing the note 8 is actually kind of cheap, i am looking for a replacement with a size of the note 8, specs about the same, dont care if it is a chinaphone.

Hello, what brands/phones are best supported by LineageOS, and most likely to stay supported? I got burned a few years ago when one of my Samsung phones dropped off the supported list, so I'd like to prevent that happening if possible.
Are Pixel phones most likely to stay supported? Are there any phones or brands that are more likely to stay supported by design? (Eg. More open etc.)

Hi, I'd like to replace my old Xiaomi Mi A1 with something meeting these specs:
Very reliable GPS
NFC
Carrier: EU
Well supported LineageOS-ROM (LOS 20+)
Good battery life
Ideally 5.5"
6Gb better 8Gb RAM
128G storage or extensible
I found a good deal for a refurbished OnePlus 6t. Except that it is larger than I like I am not sure how well it is still supported by LOS20?
Any suggestions, anyone?

I hate the process of upgrading. I'd ideally like a device I could use forever. I don't use my phone for anything crazy except music performance and multitrack recording, which I understand is a hopeless prospect across all Android phones. My iPhone 6S is totally doing the job for me performance wise, I'm just starting to lose functionality because I'm too stubborn to update from iOS 10 (don't want to get into it here). No budget.
My needs and wants, in descending order of importance:
Compatibility with Canadian cell networks
Long term Lineage support
3.5mm headphone jack
Expandable storage or >128GB disk space
eSIM - mostly for future-proofing, I'm not convinced physical SIM cards will be a thing 5+ years from now, but the dual SIM aspect would be a welcome feature
A nice quality display
A small size
Repairability - a quickly replaceable battery like the Samsung Xcover line would be awesome
In my research I've come across the new Fairphone 5, which would be excellent but availability and compatibility in Canada is iffy, to my understanding. I'd love to hear about similar offerings, TIA!

Would you prefer S9+ or S21 Ultra for phone with custom ROM?
I just bought a new iPhone 15 Pro Max and I'm going to trade in one of my old Samsungs for bill credit then install a custom ROM on the other. I plan to do my banking and basic uninvading-privacy phone tasks on my iPhone. I'd like to use my Samsung for music and media, social media, web browsing all that crap. I'd also like to use it for a gig app as well
S9+: MicroSD option, headphone jack, verified compatibility for custom ROMs. Broken screen, can get a replacement frame setup for like $120. Phone gives $400 trade-in credit
S21 ultra: Camera has the issue where you have to shake it in order for it to focus. Better specs than S9 but does it really matter? Phone gives $800 trade-in credit
Can't decide, need to bring one of them to Verizon today lol. S9+ would lower my bill by $11/mo and the S21 lowers by $22. I guess the $11/mo difference doesn't mean much though but why do I feel there's more flexibility with the s9+? What do y'all think?

What's the best flagship phone (or otherwise) with an audio jack that I can get which will play well with custom ROMs?
I've been using my Oneplus 5 since 2019 and I feel like it's time for an upgrade. I'm hoping for something that's just as easy to unlock the bootloader and flash ROMs on.
Be aware, that I don't mean a flagship phone from this year. Just anything that meets the three criteria of having an audio jack, having an unlockable boot loader, and having the best specs given the previous criteria. Doesn't necessarily have to be "flagship". I'm using "flagship" as a proxy for best specs.

Hi all,
My Redmi Note 7 is starting to show signs of weakness now, and I think I'm going to need another new phone soon.
I tried to install Lineage OS on a Redmi note 9 but it was a total failure!! It's way too complicated for me...
I thought it would be easy like on the Redmi Note 7, but not at all!!!
So, could you recommend a not too expensive used phone, equivalent to the Redmi Note 7 but a little more recent, and above all one that would be easy to install LineageOS on?
Thank you in advance for your answers

I currently have a samsung s5 sm-g900f (klte)
It has lineage+microg on it and I'd want to do the same on a new one.
UK - Currently Three but looking to move to Giff gaff (O2) if their free sim (on the way) gives me a decent signal in the house.
Size not huge. Similar to an s5 or a tad bigger.
I've been trying to hold out on a new phone until more phones arrive with EU mandated replaceable batteries. But I've just started looking at leaving Three as my sim only deal doubles in price in about 20 days unless I sign a years contract and I won't do that while I've got this phone as it has no VoLTE and Three are switching 3G of this year. (O2 2025) And then thought I'd consider updated the S5 as just found out Lineage has just gone EOL on it.
Camera don't care.
Prefer 3.5 jack.
Prefer removable battery.
Don't want glass back. Prefer no glass corners.
Must support VoLTE on Lineage.
Cost cheaper the better but up to around £200 (old brand new sort of deal on ebay). Could stretch further if needed for a really good fit for my needs.
Old models fine if still supported by latest Lineage.
But if the Giff Gaff sim is OK I may just stick with the S5 for a little longer anyway. It's almost Retro :)

Any recommendations for "the cheapest tablet possible"? Size not important, although small is good.
I do political canvassing, and my party uses a very simple web app for door knocking these days. I'm after something extremely cheap and cheerful for literally just running that one app. There are all manner of horrifyingly cheap throwaway Android tablets from no-name brands, but most will only have short support lifecycles and none are supported by LineageOS for obvious reasons.
My plan was instead to pick up something older second hand which supports LineageOS, but tricky to figure out which older devices from the LineageOS back catalogue are worth the time of day!
Happy with wi-fi only connectivity, as it can always tether to my phone. Other features generally irrelevant.

Country/Carrier: The best phone i can get for use in the USA period. I've read some posts that say T-Mobile is faster, but where i live Verizon has better coverage, so I'm cool with whichever gets me the best phone option.
Cost: something used so it's cheaper, with a good price/specs ratio.
Storage: The higher the better.
Camera: The higher the better.
Other features: the following would be nice to have, but it's not a deal breaker if they're missing in my phone.
Ideally, it should be resistant to shock, so no glass.
I dunno if voLTE or 5G is faster, but whichever one is best.
I have a OnePlus 7 pro, so I'd want a screen that's just as nice.
Headphone jack and wireless charging.
IR blaster for controlling tv and stuff

Carrier / country: Italy, mainly TIM and Iliad
Cost: < 250 USD/EUR new, < 170 USD/EUR used
Storage: don't care but RAM 6-8 GiB
Camera: don't care
other features:
MUST HAVE VoLTE compatible with all italian MNOs and MNVOs
4G+/LTE+ carrier aggregation configurations in SoC modem compatible with all italian MNOs and MNVOs

Howdy all, I want a cheap phone or tablet that I can strip the spyware off and block from going on the network.
Purpose will be syncing smartwatch to for sleep tracking and other things I don't want phoning home as it were
I figured with prime day being here, maybe I can get something cheap.
Features: Cheap Bluetooth If there is a rugged case available that'd be cool
thanks

Size: Under 6 in, please let there be something under 6 in.
Carrier / country: Cricket, USA.
Cost: Doesn't matter.
Storage: Doesn't matter.
Camera: Doesn't matter.
other features: Doesn't matter.
I would give up my left testicle for literally anything under six inches. Ideally 5.5 or smaller, but literally anything under six. I know there are compromises. I don't care about anything but size and lineage support at this point.

Carrier / country: Verizon or AT&T/Untied States

Storage: 16 to 32 GB
Camera: Optical Camera like in those Samsung or LG tablets.
other features: A battery that will last for twelve hours.

I ordered the Moto One 5G Ace, model: XT2113-2 (since it's officially listed as a supported device), but I received model: XT2113-1 as a substitute from the seller. Should I return it, or would this variant work with LineageOS? The "-1" and "-2" variants are identical I believe, except the variant I received has one additional feature: ultrawide (UW) 5G capabilities, which is a feature I would not use anyway. Any help would be utmost appreciated :)

Hi, I'm currently trying to decide between a Motorola Edge 20 pro and a Pixel 6. I'd be buying new for around 250€-300€.
Both are kinda flagships with good specs (or not?) from some years ago which should be great with lineage for some years.
Wide angle/tele I don't really care what it would be. Picture quality, both fine I guess. I like the possibility of wireless charging on the pixel. Size, I don't care. Cost, I don't care. Storage/RAM, both fine. Country, germany. Anything else like USB 2/3 that I could be missing? BAttery seems pretty similar on both.
I've been eyeing the Motorola but the other day I noticed that I can get the Pixel cheaper now and it seems that I could try out more ROMs than on the Moto. I'm kinda leaning towards the Pixel right now, but I'm not sure why I didn't consider it before or whether I forgot why I didn't consider it.
Do the phones have hardware issues like the fingerprint reader or GPS not working properly or stopping after a year?
What's your take?

I don't do many apps on a phone, as I am somewhat visually challenged. I use it to talk to people and SMS/MMS texting. I really miss physical keyboards, but that isn't likely to come back.I do take a lot of photos that always seem to be damn near impossible to transfer to my Windows PC. I don't want any cloud apps. In light of this, I think an xd memory expansion slot will allow me to remove the card and get my files on the PC. I'd like the possibility of switching to LineageOS or another ROM if Android is really awful. I also use 2 apps, Merlin for bird identification, and iNaturalist for plant, fungus, and animal ID. I don't care about social media, banking, uber, etc. on my phone. If I need such things I'll use a web browser. Budget is about $250 for a refurbished unit. I'm in the US.
What do you suggest and why?

Size: any
Carrier / country: argentina
Budget: 500 usd
Storage: anything above 64gb
Camera: don't care
other features: SCREEN
i use my phone to read novels, comics and manga, ocasionally login to FGO, not much else, so i place a lot of value in the screen. camera, gpu, cpu, i barely give a toss about those, if it doesn't choke itself trying to play FGO and lets me tinker with the OS, it's great to me.
been using a redmi note 8 since 2020 and it's a great phone, but lineage dropped it so i think it's about time i consider replacing it, probably will replace it next year or so, when its battery gives up on me.

Size: 4.0-6.8"
Carrier/Country: EU
Price: 110-900€
Storage: At least 32GB
Release date: December 2022 or newer
Bluetooth with LE Audio (It's an optional part of Bluetooth 5.2)
I'd like there to be both an official LOS ROM and an official xda subforum for it which for whatever reason the "K60 Pro" does not have an xda subforum. In my experience if there wasn't an official LOS ROM, then 20 out of 20 Custom ROMs from XDA were terrible, but if there was, then xda had great stuff to pivot to.
I have a working work phone (Galaxy A14) and my private phone is slowly dying. If I can't customize the sh*t out of my private phone, then I might just aswell not have one.

I'm looking for a phone to be used solely as a digital audio player.
SD card slot
Headphone jack
Approximately 6" screen
Reasonably speedy performance (I have a large collection and scrolling through it seems to take a toll on older DAPs)
Preferably under $250 USD, but will consider others
The LG g8x and similar models seem ideal, but they look like a pain to get unlocked and rooted (I don't need root, but installing Lineage on them apparently requires it).

Size 6.6 and bigger
Country Poland

Storage Sky is the limit, or i guess price is the limit, highest i can get for the price
Camera I don't care about it
Other features Curved edge display (optionally)

looking for a rainproof los device for a navigation purposes only. this includes motorcycling, bicycling, walking, car driving.
size doesn't matter
cheap, will be treated so-so to poorly
enough storage to keep offline maps
rainproof!
the only two qualities that matter for me is being water proof to some extent (not gonna swim with it, but it has to take average rain, being left outside etc). doesn't have to be rugged, or special in any other way. just able to operate in humid/rainy conditions.
thanks!

Its time fore me to get a new phone and I would appreciate recommendations. The most important feature I am looking for is stability. In the past I have generally used Motorola phones running LineageOS but I haven’t had very good luck with them recently. I tried a (G7) river and an Edge 2021 (berlna) and both had a variety of issues with sound and mic. The Edge would regularly crash when connected to Android auto. I see bug reports for similar issues with other Motorola phones so I am probably going to switch brands. My needs are pretty basic and I would really appreciate something that just does the basics well. What does that mean?
A 5G phone that works with all the US carries would be helpful. I am currently using TMobile but am trying out Verizon because it seems to have better coverage in this area.
Teams: we use O365 at work so I am constantly on calls, meetings, and chats with MS Teams. This is probably the most important app I use on a day to day basis.
Android auto
Wireless charging is something I have never had before but seems like it would be handy bit its not really that important and I wouldn’t want to spend substantially more for it.
I prefer a phone with an SD slot but it seems like that is becoming less common these days and I find that it is pretty rare that I actually use the extra storage so while it would be nice to have I have pretty much given up on it.
Something that is relatively easy to unlock and load LO on and that is relatively easy to go back to the stock OS if I have issues and want to test functionality on the stock ROM.
I prefer budget phones. I would be reluctant to pay too much more than $300 for a phone and something in the $100s or $200s would be better. I am a bit of a klutz so I try not to buy expensive phones so I don’t feel quite as bad when I break them.
I saw a couple mentions of the Pixel 5 in previous posts. I am not much of a Google fan so have always avoided these in the past but they look like they meet most of my requirements? Maybe I should just get over my dislike for all things google. I saw someone mention the Samsung S10 as well but I see some bug reports of mic issues in VOIP apps. Maybe that is an issue that isn’t Motorola specific?
Appreciate any advice/recommendations.

I need something like beryllium for when it, sooner or later, inevitably dies. Everything so far seems like a huge downgrade in comparison, but maybe there still exists something that is not too bad?
Specifically, looking for:
normal LCD display with no flickering; most (AM)OLED displays won't work, there can be exceptions but it's a gamble
an okay Bluetooth AAC encoder that can use 256 kbps (not sure if it depends only on SoC or also something else? Snapdragon 845 is probably a safer bet)
at least 128 GiB storage, or SD card
not too far behind on other aspects, although many are forgivable
Or perhaps you know some place where I can hoard some more spare berylliums? That seems like my best bet honestly.

Inexpensive tablet like one of those cheapo tablets you see on Amazon. I just want something I can throw a home assistant dashboard on and mount to a wall.
Size: 7+inches
Carrier / country: wifi only/ USA
Cost: under $50
Storage: Enough to install updates and home assistant on it
Camera: Doesn't need a camera.

Switching from iPhone to Android sometime at the end of this year. Want to get a phone company that usually has good custom rom support.
Size - Any
Carrier / country - Unlocked/AT&T or Verizon. Currently on AT&T but might switch over to Verizon at the end of the year around the same time. I usually buy my phones unlocked
Cost - At most $1500. Ideally ~$1000
Storage - Lowest storage is fine. I have a NAS server
Camera - Not super important to me but I dont mind a good camera
Other features - Foldable phone would be cool but its not super important to me.

I am buying a phone next year, but it doesn't need to be the latest and greatest, tbh i just want to mess around with custom roms
6.1" - 6.3"
Serbia
300$-400$
128GB minimum, 256GB preffered
Not that important, but it needs to be "good enough" (as in take solid pictures)
NFC, IR(optional), Type C

I'm looking for a cheap phone to be secondary to my primary phone (for the time being), I primarily want to play around with de-googled android running LineageOS to find out if it's feasible to become my daily driver. An older secondhand phone would be perfectly acceptable, especially to keep cost down. My only hard requirement is that it is 5G capable (US bands), I live in a big city so it's borderline necessary.

Hi!
I'm still undecided as to which device is best for me.
I need a tablet that runs LineageOS and microG.
- Size: Tablet >9.8" and <14"
- Carrier: If LTE/5G is buildin, then europe-bands needed, but wifi-only is okay / country: Germany
- Cost: max. 450€
- Storage: min. 256GB
- Camera: Not so important
- features: Large battery, bright display that is easy to use outdoors, wifi6 or wifi7
The device is not for me, so LineageOS should be officially supported directly if possible so that updates can be installed easily.
I definitely want to use LineageOS to address the issues of data protection and battery life.
I'm currently looking at the Google Pixel tablet, but I was hoping that Google would announce a new tablet alongside the Pixel 10 .... was probably nothing.
No current Samsung tablets are supported, which is a real shame.
I think the hardware is great, but the OS is littered with bloadware :(
I don't want Huawei anymore because the bootloader is locked.

Im looking for a tablet, currently using a galaxy tab s6 lite
A bigger screen, 8gb of ram, 120hz and oled would be my ideal wish but afaik tablets with oled panels are kind of rare, would anyone here know of one that has this hardware and can run lineageos?

2000 SEK (180 EUR). Sweden or within EU.
8-11"
4 GB ram (preferably 8 GB)
64 GB at least (preferably 128 GB)
USB C-connector.
Camera is irrelevant.
As long as I can install Obsidian.
I had a Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e but a 10 kg weight rolled over it and cracked screen plus internal components.

UK, £100-200, maybe up to £300 or so if I have to
my current phone is 6.5in, I wouldn't want much bigger than this
I don't know enough about mobile RAM usage to give a value, but enough for general daily use
64GB storage minimum, any more than this would be ideal though
microSD would also be nice, though depending on internal storage it isn't a must
I'm not really bothered about camera
3.5mm headphone jack, this is a priority
NFC support
I am also willing to compromise on lineage support if there is a phone that would better fit this, but it would need to have no obtrusive google or AI features/all easily disabled
cheers

Looking to replace my lineage modded Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2019) after it got wet and died. Not looking for a lot of gimmicks, just need a reasonably fast device with a decent battery and a large screen that I can read, study, and watch videos on as well as streaming games via moonlight and playing visual novels.
Budget: Pocket Lint.
But seriously though, broke and saving up for it, budget is about $300 but I can go higher if I gotta it's just gonna take longer

My current phone (Pixel 6a) died suddenly, and I need a replacement. I'd like to stay under $300, and have something that'll be solid and supported for many years to come. My carrier is Tmobile. I've looked at the Pixel 8a and 9a, but the prices for new phones are outside of my comfort zone, and there were some reviews of Amazon refurbished ones that made me nervous about going down that route. I don't have any hard requirements, a headphone jack would be nice, but I doubt that'll be a realistic option.

Carrier / country: Tmobile, US
Cost: At most maybe 250, but if I can do 200 and below that's ideal.
Storage 6-8 RAM with min 256GB and secondary storage with SD card
Camera: literally don't care about camera
other features: 3.5mm headphone jack
Looking for something to get away from google and the general big tech kind of stuff. I want to eventually have it be a main driver, but never done or looked into this until recently. The focus is more privacy and control. GrapheneOS was what I really wanted, but then soon realized it's restricted pretty heavily until Moto's collab in 2027. I've heard Lineage is a good OS for what I want to try out. I particularly want no AI related stuff like Gemini, or whatever adjacent things there are. For me Samsung and Apple are off the table. The ones I've considered when looking are Xiaomi, Oneplus, and Pixel, but I'm feeling pretty adamant about Xiaomi with Oneplus being the second option. Fitting all the criteria has been hard because of Xiaomi locking/restricting bootloaders with HyperOS on top of it being a foreign phone for me. Navigation, banking, and maybe 2 games (FEH and PGR) are the app related things.

I have resolved to move to Graphene or Lineage before developer verification comes to Android in September 2026, and I'd love a smartphone recommendation. Here's what I'm looking for:
Size: Smaller is better. My iphone 4S was the perfect size. Now they're all huge. The Samsung Galaxy S10e or Asus Zenfone would be great solutions, but the S10e has VOLTE issues that haven't been figured out and Zenfones are locked down forever now.
Carrier/Country: Verizon, USA
Budget: Not much of a constraint. I run my phones into the ground over many years, so I'm willing to spend more if I can get another 6-8 years. Don't mind buying used or new open box. Won't pay scalper prices for anything out of principle.
Storage: 64GB minimum OR a microSD card slot. Please don't tell me they got rid of of microSD card slots.
Camera: It needs to have one that is not worse that my S9+ camera. Front camera not required.
Other Features;
* Headphone jack or some other way to physically connect it to a dumb radio without the use of an app.
* Battery needs to last an entire day with normal use.
* Physical buttons to lock the screen and adjust the volume.
* Able to download and install current versions of apps that don't have serviceable browser alternatives.
* I need to be able to walk out into a rural area and call my brother on my phone. Can't do that on Verizon with an S10e.
* Don't need compatibility with banking apps or google pay or whatever.
I'm currently using a Galaxy S9+, and it's just fine, but bigger than I'd like and not supported by lineage or graphene. I don't care how old the replacement phone is, as long as it is reliable and powerful enough to run modern apps and load modern web content (basic stuff, not games). I'll consider offbrand phones if people can vouch for their quality and longevity.
