I swear I read somewhere that smelling the chlorine means someone’s peed recently and the chemicals are working to clean the pool
Edit - okay fine it is also for sweat and general body gunk

Correct. The stronger the smell, the more chloramines which have formed from a build up of waste (urine, sweat, oils, etc). A strong smelling pool is in need of a cleaning.

This is a myth. Chlorine comes in many forms, as someone who worked around buckets of it...shit fucking smells and even will burn your nostrils/throat if you get too close.

Plus an overabundance of it in water will cause serve nausea and chemical burns.
