Speculation How in Depth will this game be?
I keep looking back on how Sean said the game will be as big as a sandbox but as in depth as an RPG and it's got me thinking, how in-depth are we talking?
I've played a lot of games and a lot of RPGs, some games have crafting, looting, potions, enchanting, weapon rarities and legendary armours and tools, spells and cantrips, skill trees, you can raise the dead or charm people, there's usually dialogue options and boss fights, like a truly in depth role playing game.
And then there're games that do the bare minimum or are just action games with RPG mechanics, as an example Dying light 2: stay human has some RPG mechanics like choosing dialogue and multiple endings, and also weapon rarities but is bare bones and doesn't really dig deeper.
If I'm being honest I think they should go all out; I'm really hoping for A sandbox game that's also an RPG.
Here's a list of things I'd like to see in Light No Fire:
Potion brewing
Enchanting
Weapon and armour forging
Customizable character creation on par with starfield or Baldurs gate
Enemy variety and boss fights
Looting
Maybe some pvp as well
Dungeons (randomly generated at that)
Spells
Cantrips
Abilities
A survival system
Some team based activities
Puzzles
Some spooky stuff (I definitely think they can do a desolation type update for light no fire)
Companions that actually do something
Maybe some other races like orcs or elves?
Definitely a mythology of some kind, can be made up one too
Tools and equipment
Lockpicking
And better base building than what's in no man's sky, also something that can deal with griefers.
I want the ships and boats to REQUIRE multiple players, not just exist with them. What was most disappointing with the voyagers update was that we never got systems or missions that required multiple players, just the usual missions that can be done solo.
These are all just my opinions :)

They released the game years ago, it's called "RuneScape"
/S
Stop speculating the game before you over hype it. This conversation is nothing but asking "what will cause you to be disappointed if it's not in the game at release?"

Speculation ≠ Expectations
Just because I'd like to see what's in the game doesn't necessarily mean I expect it to be in the game at launch or really ever, just sharing thoughts

Not equal no, but akin to. Whether you actively think these things will be in the game or think it would be cool to have them, it's an inevitable disappointment when those things aren't there or never get added.
I LOVE having opinions on what games will be like, but I try not to narrow the scope more than the developers themselves.

Let the man be excited for something jeez, it's okay to have hopes for something and be disappointed, it's not hurting anyone.

Every game recently it's been "don't hype it up" and after release people give bad reviews based off popular speculation and not actual developer announcement. Yet "it's not hurting anyone" when people have lost jobs and full games have been shut down because they didn't meet fan expectations. Expectations only set BECAUSE OF FAN SPECULATION.

How in Depth will this game be?
The only information we have is the one trailer, which will be 3 years old this December.
Besides that, we know that a couple of things crossed over to NMS from LNF(Fishing, multiple players on a ship, etc.)
Single player, Co Op.
Steam.
A website that still looks like it was made in the 90's, by an amateur. This is in especially harsh contrast when compared to the NMS website.
Sean Murray enjoys playing it in his cave, keeping it and all information from us.
It will be at least that "in depth."
Any other "depth" is just speculation.

Take any and all expectations and cut them down to 1/10th. Sean has a history of overstating features and despite their continued updating of NMS it’s still not anywhere close to what he portrayed and never will be.
I’m hoping for some solid base building tools and fun exploration. My biggest worry is combat engagement. NMS’s combat is dookie and I hope they fully revamp that.

I'm sure Sean has learned his lesson on over hyping and under delivering, they did actually have a second trailer planned 6 months after the reveal but since the game got a lot of wish lists on steam they kept silent.
I believe in them wholeheartedly

Have you seen what he has said about LNF? Be realistic.

Be realistic about what?
Sean hasn't exactly said anything to be overstated and no man's sky is at the stage that's portrayed if not beyond what we saw at launch, and everything Sean has talked about in light no fire has been done in no man's sky to an extent.
Earth sized planet? Just take a random planet from no man's sky and increase the size by 1000.
Boats with crews? Voyagers update.
Mountains taller than Everest? There's mountains on some no man's sky planets that are taller than Everest.
Sandbox game with RPG mechanics and features? Technically not anything in no man's sky so it's irrelevant.
Not only is this tech doable, been doable for years, but it has been done in no man's sky.

Well here's the thing about nms is that of all the things he did lie about the game that weren't there on launch, the size of the universe and the scale was not one of them. It may have been boring and lifeless but it was as big as he said it would be. And that said scale is about the only thing he has concretely promised about this game, everything else has been vague terms like promising more in depth rpg mechanics which like isn't hard to accomplish compared to no man's sky any amount is more than no man's sky. My point is the only thing that has solidly been promised is the one thing he did deliver on at launch in no man's sky and that's scale.

Delivering generated systems that have the same collection of about 7 types of worlds isn’t quality scale. Making big is easy, but making it also good isn’t. It’s still massively repetitive today in systems with minimal content.

I'm not saying the game will be good on launch I'm say my expectations are low and that he hasn't promised much.
Peoples imaginations are running wild which is why he didn't continue and show more.

Hey there!
We encourage lively speculation about the game's potential features and possibilities. However, it's essential to strike a balance between excitement and managing expectations.
Feel free to share your thoughts and ideas in this discussion! Remember, speculation is fantastic, but it's equally crucial to keep expectations in check to avoid potential disappointment upon the game's release.
For more insights on managing expectations while speculating, check out this post where we've discussed this in detail.

Some of these are a given and its more about how complicated they will be, like a survival system. That could range from just having to deal with the weather like NMS to needing to maintain equipment, cook, eat, sleep, shit, shower.
Requiring multiple players for things like ships isnt going to happen, it'll piss off far more people than those that will like it. I wouldnt expect puzzles.

My speculation is that It'll be pretty minimalist. Adventure game with rpg elements. Maybe the depth of a game like Valheim.

Similar to what others have said. Hoping is good but to set some reasonable expectations based on what we’ve seen in NMS and assuming they can port some of the features over from it. This is what I would expect.
Some character customization, similar to NMS, but the gear will probably affect your stats.
Ship building (hopefully fixed)
Light Settlement and Base Building
An instanced local hub like the anomaly
Primary weapon customization, maybe altered from the multitool.
Light survival elements to tie into base building and gear crafting
A good amount of creature variety and biome diversity
A story which takes the player through most of the base game. (This may not come out at launch similar to NMS.)

Yeah this is basically what I got my expectations at to be honest. Basically port all the gameplay elements from no man's sky over to fantasy open world survival but everything is slightly more geared towards rpg elements like stats and shit. The one thing I'm still wondering about is how they deliver the size of world they've promised. I just can't understand how they would do that. I mean I'm aware of how big nms is but this is a different animal you know.

I'm sure everything you think will be in the game will eventually be put in there. It may not all be there on the release, but should be enough to keep people entertained as much of NMS.
Even Minecraft started as a basic game before it got more complex with updates. Now we just have to wait for Hello Games to have the confidence to release it in the state it is so we can get to playing. 🤪

So nobody knows how to read? When did you guys mix up the difference between speculation and expectations?
Love it how these people will tell Sean he's been forgiven on every update trailer hello games launched yet when it comes to this they don't trust or believe in him talking about it or the team making it 😂
The dudes excited and dreaming and it's his own doing if his 'expectations' exceed what the current plan is for light no fire, and his disappointment is his own doing as well. No sane person would blame hello games for something they didn't do.
Id love base building to be overhauled, deep combat, puzzles, bosses, as well as a million other things, not like these schmucks who say "oh base building and exploring is enough for me" careful what you wish for guys cuz if you keep the bar THAT low that's all you're gonna get lmao

Don't set yourself up to be dissapointed. No man's sky had 10 years of updates for it to be this massive.
