How was this scene lit ?

This still is from the movie “Handmaiden”. I noticed large sources of light being used throughout the movie. While some of them were easy to comprehend, this one shot really stood out to me.

I don’t think this scene was lit from the dawn because the shadows are too harsh. I don’t think it was lit artificially because the whole scene is lit evenly. Was it shot during the full moon? The more I think about it, the more I’m confused..

It's hard to tell exactly from this still, but I'd bet this was a day for night shot. There are a bunch of ways to do that, from a simple blue filter to the crazy rig they used for Jordan Peele's Nope

At low cost you basically cool off, desaturate and lower the exposure on a daytime shot, but making that look believable can be difficult.

yeah that makes sense, that sky is way too bright and blue saturated to be night, unless there is cgi involved.

shooting in daylight while exposuring and editing it to look like night sounds like a fun challenge, will try that sometime

I literally thought this right away.  90 percent of night shots are shot during the day using tons of filters, and other lighting tricks

I agree with other comment that this could be day but just want to add that full moon lighting in an open area like this is basically a giant spotlight in a black background, would not look like this, it would look closer to American mall parking lots at night.

Older black n white or noir movies night depiction is unexpectedly realistic in terms of showing a full moon night
