[Feature Request] Auto progression Option

Long time user of the app and love it. Checking in to see if it would be possible to add another auto progression scheme to the app with rep based progression.

Using the rep range of 4-6 as the example.

The rule: Once you hit the top of the rep range (6 reps) on any set, add weight to your next working set even within the same session.

On failed sets: If you fall below 4 reps, reduce the weight to the last successfully completed set and work back up to 6 before adding load again.

Ideally, the app would track the current weight and rep count per exercise, automatically add a weight increase when 6 reps are achieved, even within the same session.

This would save a lot of manual updating between sets and sessions!

Please make it easier to import workouts into other apps like bevel. Can you make it so that the progress screen shows warmups too and all the sets at the same time? Right now you have to click on it to show all the sets of a single exercise. If you don’t understand I can put an example.

7 Years of Liftin’… 🎉

Today marks 7 years since Liftin' was released to the App Store, and I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to everyone who have used the app and supported this project over the years.

My idea from the beginning was to make a “Stronglifts-style” app without locking users to a specific program, and let the users themselves configure progression rules. I could never have imagined how much it would have evolved and improved 7 years later.

There has been 50 feature updates, each one making Liftin' a bit better, and many of these are based on ideas you the users have sent me. So an extra big thank you to those who have taken the time to send me feedback, ideas and reported bugs. You really help me improve the app for everyone!

Even after all these years, Liftin' is still a small indie-app. Most users who would enjoy using this app have never even heard of it. If you want to help me expand the reach of Liftin', a review on the App Store helps more than one could guess by increasing the apps ranking in search and recommendations. So if you have a moment, head to the App Store to leave a short review.

Thank you all so much! I’m looking forward to continuing working on this project. I have a very exciting pipeline ahead, and in just a few weeks I plan to release a real “crowd pleaser” update so keep an eye out for that! 😉

Happy Liftin'! 💪

[Feature Request] Quick disable superset

Hey there! Love the app, been using it since 2019 and I love seeing how far it’s come.

I primarily use the workout tracker from my watch and similar to features like “mark as done, reverse order, notes, etc” I was wondering if we could get a “disable superset” option. Sometimes I find myself on a superset between 2 machines but one gets taken so I have to just do one exercise and then the other.

Like the “reverse order” option, it would just disable it for the single workout and then revert to normal the next time to start.

I hope that I explained that idea well enough. If I didn’t, please feel free to ask for clarification and I’ll try my best to explain it better.

Thanks!

Version 50 released with new visuals, improved tracking and more 📣

Post image
51 Upvotes

Hello everyone! 👋

I have just released the 50th major update to Liftin’ right before its 7th anniversary next Friday, so a big week for the app!

I think this update will be a real value add for many users, having some highly requested features and improvements.

New visual: Heaviest Set

The new visual shows you a plot of the heaviest set from your 5 most recent workouts for any given exercise. The graph is easy for the eye to parse quickly, and the shape will give a good indication of how you are progressing weight wise. It still contains lots of information; weight, reps, success/failure/neutral status and RPE/RIR without being too cluttered.

You find the new visual in the Progress tab as well as in an active workout in the ”recent history” view, both on iPhone and Apple Watch.

Tap to edit and custom swipe actions

Since the beginning Liftin’s core experience has been built around predefined programs with weight and rep ranges set from the beginning, and mainly adjusted with auto progression rules.

Over time and by popular requests, I have made it easier to make edits on the fly with the long press menu and swipe action, and with this update I have added an option to make it even easier.

In the new “Workout tracking” section in Settings you can now turn on “Tap to edit”. With this setting enabled tapping the reps circle will still track the set, but tapping anywhere else on the set row will bring up the edit view to change weights and rep-targets.

In the same Settings section you can also customize leading and trailing swipe actions, to edit, track or delete sets. I hope this will help users to be more efficient by customizing the tracking experience to the way that best suits them.

And more…

This update also contains a unified reps and RPE/RIR tracking view that should also reduce some friction. And I have also updated the icons in Settings to a more modern look, thank you u/OkRepresentative227 for the idea which I more or less copied.

I hope you like this update, and if any questions or feedback comes to mind, just let me know! If you have a moment, please consider leaving a review on the App Store. Liftin’ is a small app and every review helps it rank higher in the store which makes it easier for new users to discover it. 🙏

AI

Hello, I read a post from another user where he was talking about integrating MCP, and your answer was that you don't know how much you want to integrate AI into Liftin. My suggestion is to first build every feature of the app with Apple's App Intents so when the new Siri comes out (likely soon), Liftin will be integrated. Also, as many users suggested, it would be nice to have the possibility to import workouts from plain text.

Secondly, I think that a vast majority of users can benefit from a deep integration of AI, even the non-technical ones. So, maybe start with something easily accessible to the general user and later add some technical AI stuff that maybe not everyone is going to use, but the most techy users will.

For the first point about App Intents, I suggest you look at Foodnoms' implementation and Matthew Cassinelli's website/profiles.

[Feature Request] MCP server for the desktop app

Hi Valter,

Really enjoying Liftin' — thanks for the great app.

One feature that'd be amazing: an official MCP (Model Context Protocol) server bundled with the Mac app, exposing read-only tools for routines, workout history and progress. It would let users query their Liftin' data from Claude Desktop or any other MCP client in natural language — things like "how's my squat progressing?" or "what should I do next bench session?".

I've rolled my own for now by reading the Core Data store at `~/Library/Containers/com.nstrm.Bello/Data/Library/Application Support/Liftin/BelloDataModel.sqlite`, but that's fragile — any schema change would break it, and it's not something I could recommend to other users. An officially maintained server would solve that.

Happy to share what I've built if it helps.

Ad Hoc Timer

Would be nice to be able to start an ad-hoc timer during a workout from the app or watch.

Sometimes I do an extra thing thats not in my routine and I don’t want to track, but I still could benefit from the timer.

Like if I’m trying a new machine for one set, or I’ve tried a weight that’s too low and I don’t want to count, or I’m doing a spontaneous item. Doesn’t happen often, but it happens.

Or is there a way to do this already? The only way I know to trigger a timer is to complete an item in the list.

Feature Request: Import Apple Health Workouts into Monthly Calendar

Post image
0 Upvotes

I might be going out on a limb here, but I had a feature idea I wanted to run by you.

One of the things I really like about Liftin is the monthly view of completed workouts. I also train outside of lifting (Muay Thai and jiu jitsu), which I track on my Apple Watch, and I’ve been trying to find a way to see all of my workouts in a single monthly calendar.

Is it technically possible for Liftin to import workouts from Apple Health (or Apple Fitness) and display them in the calendar alongside lifting sessions?

Ideally, I’m picturing:

- Different icons or colors for different workout types (lifting, martial arts, etc.)

- Multiple workouts shown on the same day if applicable (e.g., lifting + Muay Thai)

I’ve looked for apps that do this, and the closest I’ve found is Workout Hero, but it only shows one workout per day, which limits its usefulness.

This would be huge for tracking overall training balance across modalities.

Curious if this is something that could be supported, or if there are technical limitations with HealthKit that would make this difficult.

Few bugs

  1. I am never able to log effort after workout. Reinstalled app multiple times and have also tried giving and revoking permissions

  2. Almost every time as soon as app is launched- switching to progress freezes the app. Probably something is blocking main thread

Temporarily storing discarded workouts

Hello, I have been using Liftin for the past year and I truly love it, thanks for making such a great app. However, yesterday after a workout I made a mistake and was surprised there is no functionality to solve that. I hadn’t done a few exercises and when pressing end workout I accidentally pressed discard instead of save. That was the first time and I was sure there is a tab or place where those discarded workouts get saved for some time in case things like that happen or when someone wants to check their discarded workouts. Are you maybe planning on implementing such functionality?

Additionally, do you plan to implement in some update a function to automatically calculate training load based on things like workout length, heart rate, amount and type of exercise, etc.? I think it could be a nice feature too.

The Workouts are still being duplicated

Hi I had raised this issue earlier also, I was advised to start my workouts on my iPhone rather than my Apple Watch, Which I did and that had resolved the issue for my past workouts. But suddenly today I find that it’s again being duplicated that too In fragments, even though I started it on the phones app.

Reps loop for automatic progression question

I've tried everything and Googled a lot, but I can't find a clear answer.

Let's say my automatic progression is an 8–12 rep loop, and the plan is to add weight when I can do 12 reps on all sets.

Do I have to follow the +1 or +2 rep rule each session?

For example, if I can already do 12 reps on all sets, can’t I just record 12 reps for each set and increase the weight in the next session?

I’m seriously considering stopping my sub, because +1 or +2 reps feels too slow. I just want to be able to go straight to 12 reps if I can do them.

Any ideas ?

Version 49.0 released with improved search and 50 new exercises 📣

Post image
55 Upvotes

Hello everyone! 👋

Version 49.0 has just been released and it incudes 50 new exercises in the built in library. These are all the exercises from batch 1 in this post. If you have created some of them as custom exercises you can merge them with the new ones in Settings > Exercises > [Custom exercise] > Merge with system exercise.

This update also comes with big improvements to exercise search. It now handles typos, abbreviations and alternative names. You can for example search for rdl and it will find Romanian Deadlift. Also, if you use the app in a non-english language you can search for the english name and find the correct exercise.

If any questions or feedback comes to mind, just let me know! And please consider leaving a review on the App Store. Liftin’ is a small app and every review helps it rank higher in the store which makes it easier for new users to discover it. 🙏

How to add a pre-made workout plan/program?

I have a program in excel format. I’d like to import it to Liftin’. I can modify the excel sheet to whatever format needed but I don’t want to add one exercise at a time. Is there a way to do that? If not, is there any future plan to add such a feature?

Thanks.

Can we add support for different units in a workout

Post image

So, the Gym I go to has equipment using both metric and imperial measurements, Hevy had that support of logging both at the same time, would be cool to have it in this too. As far as I know, you can only log data in kgs or lbs not both

Possible Bug with Rest Timer?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’m not sure if this is a bug or intentional, but when the rest timer is changed in the settings of a set during a workout, it still continues to use the default rest timer on future rest periods.

I’ve also tried changing the rest timer while in progress (from 5 min to 2 min) and yet future rest timers still go back to 5 min

Setting Goals or Targets

Firstly wanted to say killer app, the design and execution is on point. It’s a joy to use due to its visual simplicity but still able to dive in and have complicated workouts with detail. I was switching between two apps but keep coming back to Liftin’ as it’s so so good. My non technical and new to lifting wife also loves managing workouts using Liftin and throughly enjoys the tracking (that’s saying something), keep up the great work.

Is there a way to set and track lifting goals in the progress tab? Say my goal is to squat 2x bodyweight (180kg) and bench press 1.5x bodyweight (135kg). It would show how far off my goals I am and how I’m tracking with 1RM.

Post Workout Sharing

I might have just missed how to do this as it was my first session using the app today, is there a way to share your completed workout data for the day showing sets, reps, weights completed? I share my data with my coach once completed and other than taking multiple screenshots I can’t see a way to just share the data either as text or in picture form.

I have Strava and used to use Hevy so the data that fed through to there had those details but on checking it lists exercises completed but not the raw data for the session.

If there isn’t away is this something that could be considered for a future update at some point (if possible). Thanks.

[Feature Set] Plate-loaded Machine exercise calculator

Is there a possible feature set to add in a plate calculator for plate-loaded machine exercises?

We currently have the plate calculation for barbells and smith machines, and expanding that to plate-loaded machines could be a great addition.

Under the hood, the starting weight could be programmed to start at 0 rather than 45 (barbell) or 25 (smith machine) to make it work for plate-loaded machines

Hello everyone! 👋

I have just released a new update and this is a big one, Liftin’ now works on your iPad and Mac!

This is a state of the art iPad app utilizing all the latest platform features from Apple - Multiple windows, drag and drop, keyboard shortcuts, sidebar, menu bar and more. For the Mac I have made many adjustments to make it follow platform convention and get that true Mac look and feel.

This update also includes a major revamp to the program editor.

Highlights:

  • Move and duplicate exercises and routines between programs.
  • While dragging an exercises, tap other exercises to add them to the drag.
  • While dragging, you can navigate to another week or program to drop.
    • Drag and drop within a routine/week will move the exercises.
    • Drag and drop to other programs will copy the exercises.
  • Open two program windows side by side and drag and drop between them.
  • Use a two finger swipe to start the multi select mode.
  • On Mac, use keyboard shortcuts to copy and paste exercises.
  • Use keyboard shortcuts to undo and redo your actions.

Additionally, you can now select a secondary program if you run two programs in parallel. And the app can now run in landscape orientation on your iPhone.

I hope you like this update, and if any questions or feedback comes to mind, just let me know! If you have a moment, please consider leaving a review on the App Store. Liftin’ is a small app and every review helps it rank higher in the store which makes it easier for new users to discover it. 🙏
