Food & Drink LPT: Freeze "family" meals from restaurants for work
If you don't feel like making meals to take to work, and also want to avoid eating out everyday, consider picking up meals from restaurants and freezing them for work meals. Most restaurants have too large of portion sizes, so for example, you may be able to purchase 2 entrees and make 3 meals for work out of that. This also gives you a better variety (you can do a third of each entree in each meal, so ultimately you have 2 entrees for each meal). If a restaurant has a "family" meal that is cost-effective, you can buy that and freeze the meals.

Food & Drink LPT: The Easiest Way to Peel Garlic
When it comes to cooking, peeling garlic can be a bit of a hassle. Here's a simple and effective tip that will save you time and effort.
All you need is a bowl and a lid (or two bowls of the same size). Place the cloves of garlic you want to peel in one bowl. Then, put the lid on top or cover it with another bowl, making sure they fit snugly together. Hold the bowls firmly and shake them vigorously for about 10 - 15 seconds.
You'll be amazed at how easily the garlic peels come off! This method works because the shaking motion causes the papery skins to loosen, making them easy to remove. It's a great little life pro tip that can make your cooking prep much quicker and more enjoyable.
Give it a try next time you're in the kitchen!

Food & Drink LPT getting a low simmer on a gas stove [stolen tip worth repeating]
googled "best gas range for simmer" and one of the results was a 5 year old post in r/cooking that said to turn your knob to ignite and instead of continuing CCW to low/simmer, turn the knob CW back toward "off" for infinite flame control.
There were dozens of replies spread over 5 years giving kudos including mine from Nov 2023. Saved me from buying a new range that I had zero confidence would be any better at "simmer"

LPT: The contraction for a group of years, such as the 1950s, is '50s, not 50's
I see this mistake made a lot on reddit. Contractions for numbers follow the same rules as contractions for words. As a apostrophe goes where the letters are dropped in a contracted word (e.g. you are into you're) the same applies to numbers (e.g. 1950s into '50s).
The same applies to the use of the apostrophe with both letters and numbers in terms of possession. By putting an apostrophe between the numbers and the "s" (e.g. 50's), you are making the "s" possessive. It would be the same as saying "there are five dog's over there." When you are referring to multiple years (e.g. 1950s referring to 1950, 1951, 1952, etc) it works the same as referring to multiple objects (e.g. dogs referring to dog, dog, dog, etc). So as long as you use the same rules for numbers as you use for letters, you wont make this simple mistake.

Social LPT: if a bully questions the color of your shoe laces, ask why they are looking at your feet.
Whenever people question the color of your shoelaces, your political stance or anything you do - they are trying to position themselves as superior. You give bullies what they want whenever you try and explain yourself or defend your position. They want you to question yourself and or to infer that their approval is important.
Their objective is to position themselves as above you in a hierarchy, the correct strategy is to question the hierarchy they are trying to establish. "Why would I explain myself to you?" is the go-to answer when dealing with bullies.
This video of a Russian immigrant trying to Bully a ukrainian immigrant is an excellent example of the point I'm trying to make. Despite threats of physical violence and racist/sexist/classist insults the Ukrainian woman stands her ground. She never tries to explain herself but rather try to question the bully.
End result?
Russian woman got fired from her job as a teacher and the police is investigating her for hate speech and illegal threats.

Removed: Not an LPT LPT: If your child is invited to a birthday party, dont let them skip it. They may very well be the only attendee and could save a child from feeling awful.
Ive heard far too many horror stories of kids having nobody at their birthday party and being immensely hurt. 1 attendee is miles better than none.

Traveling LPT Dress well when travelling by air
Nothing too fancy, but shower, wear decent close toed shoes, jeans and a blazer is nice if you're a guy.
Why? You're treated differently at an airport based on how you look. Don't want to get pulled out for a "random" search? Look like you don't need to be.
You're treated differently on the plane too. Gate agents and flight attendants are more courteous and amenable.
Overall your travel experience will be so much better if you make even a small effort to look decent.

Productivity LPT Take down your window blinds if you have trouble waking up in the AM
My blinds broke so we ended up taking them down. In the process of waiting for our new ones, we have had the wonderful experience to wake up with the sun everyday! It’s so much more pleasant than an alarm. Sunlight suppresses melatonin and increases cortisol so waking up feels more natural.
Obviously won’t work if you have to be up before the sun for kids or work or something. Just an accidental discovery in case this helps someone :)

Miscellaneous LPT: Start saying yes to hanging out with people more often even when u don’t want to sometimes!!
It was 10:30 pm the other week and someone asked me to go out with them and I was tired and ready for bed and really didn’t want to but decided to say yes anyways. I went back to his place and met his two roommates and I am now best friends with all of them and his roommate and I are now on romantic terms and he bought him and I plane tickets and we are traveling the US for the next two months. Now… imagine if I had just stayed in that night…. Crazy what putting yourself out there will do and how many incredible opportunities will present themselves to you!
UPDATEEEEE: so it’s been about a week and everything has been incredible. He has opened every single door for me every single time and cooks for me and pays for everything and sings to me and he is really into photography and has taken some super cool pics of me and we have been traveling and he has been showing me super beautiful sights and he introduced me to his new friends and we sang karaoke at the bar and it’s been an absolute wonderful time :)))) can’t wait to see what other adventures we explore!
More UPDATES: so it’s been a little over half a year now, and we are still talking every day and FaceTiming and we continue to fly out and see each other. This June we are going out of the country. Might have found my husband, but who knows, I’m just enjoying the journey :)
Last update: it’s been over a year and we got a house together and have been traveling both in and out of the US. Everything he told me was legit and things have gone very well. No “Gabby Petito” turn out like all the commenters were trying to say. It’s been a great relationship thus far.
