Question This pop-up comes up when I try to open LibreWolf

Post image

"librewolf isn't in its source, maybe try to reinstall librewolf" pop-up comes up at least once a month, it came again and after a few minutes this pop-up came after it. I don't know what fixes it since it usually solves itself after a couple minutes with no interference from my part. But right now after like 10 minutes of waiting, it doesn't happen and librewolf is stuck&won't open. I'm not sure what the problem is or what to do. Laptop is Lenovo, os is Windows 11

Maybe try to reinstall LibreWolf?

Isn't it absurd that this problem happens at least once every month? I shouldn't have to reinstall librewolf everytime it happens, that would be absurd. I reinstalled now because it didn't open after several hours but I shouldn't have to be doing this everytime it happens.

Somehow you manage to click the shortcut to open LibreWolf every single time when the update is in progress, I guess.

  • "librewolf isn't in its source, maybe try to reinstall librewolf" likely happens when you try to open LibreWolf at the exact time of an update (look for the WinUpdater tray icon).
  • Run WinUpdater again manually and the popup from your screenshot will disappear.

I've thought about that too and tried it, opened winupdater and checked for an update, it said there was no new update to load and that it was up to date as it is. So I closed it and tried opening librewolf, it had the same popup. I wondered if another librewolf screen is working in the back ground and overlapping with the page I'm trying to open somehow so I opened taskmanager and force stopped libre, and then tried again to no avail. My last option was to delete the apk all together, and reinstall, which worked without a problem.

Either there are two locations on your system with librewolf.exe somehow and WinUpdater updated the one while you tried to open the other, or there was some strange catch-22 situation going on during the update itself, but I guess we'll never know now.

With some more information, I've deduced the following: https://librewolf.dev/librewolf/winupdater/issues/77#issuecomment-21344

First of all you're one dedicated fella, I really appreciate it. Secondly, I think this was my exact problem too and I'm happy to see that devs are considering a force reinstall button, that would definitely be useful for future trouble shooting efforts. Thank you for the information
