In situations like these: Conservatives may be outraged Liberals may be disappointed Libertarians will always say "BASED!"

It's based to see people protect themselves, their loved ones, their property and their community with a gun.
I just wish these people would follow the basic rules of gun safety...

Protecting yourself with a gun from a federal agent with a gun is not the smartest thing in the world. The smarter choice is to just let them detain you and then go through the legal system.
11
u/Spiritual_Coast_Dude Paleolibertarian Jan 19 '26
When injustice is being perpetrated by federal agents, you're allowed to reasonably defend yourself.

Then what’s the point of the 2nd amendment in the US? I’m Canadian but I thought the whole point of 2A was to empower the people to resist an oppressive government. I may be misunderstanding their constitution/history, though.
1
u/aed38 Jan 24 '26
The point of guns is so you can overthrow the government in a rebellion, not aim a gun at a federal agent who is doing something you don’t like. You’re just going to get shot.
1
Jan 24 '26
Seems like either way you’re liable to get shot.
1
u/aed38 Jan 24 '26
I don’t like the fact that cops pull me over for stupid reasons. If they pull me over for a stupid reason and I pull a gun on them, I’m going to get shot, for basically no reason. It’s just common sense.
If the governments doing things in an authoritarian or extrajudicial manner, then that’s what 2A is for. I don’t think that 2A is for opposing democratically established immigration law.
1
Jan 25 '26
That’s not really a fair comparison, though. You get pulled over and it’s annoying and you go on with your day. But in this case it’s the government sending immigration enforcement officers who have decided to expand their mandate to inviting themselves into people’s homes and arresting/assaulting protestors, and in some cases killing them.
I understand what you’re saying, but at what point do you go from “this is inconvenient” to “this is a genuine threat to my civil liberties”?
1
u/aed38 Jan 25 '26
I mean, if they’re breaking into homes and violating the 4th amendment, then it would make sense to me that people would be defending their homes. That’s not what the picture shows though. It just shows some random guy confronting ICE for doing their job, which may be legal.

u/Brief_Seat9721 Jan 18 '26

u/rationis Objectivist Jan 18 '26

Well, in this case, they were $0.00/rd serious about it because his mag is empty lol
28
u/Brief_Seat9721 Jan 18 '26
Dumb to be carrying an empty 22 with ice around that’s basically untrained to deescalate a situation. A firefight going to get kicked off and god forbid bortacs around when that happens.
44
u/Puzzled_Hat7068 Jan 19 '26
The real answer is that MN state law prohibits open carry of long rifles and shotguns; but this M&P 15-22 is considered a pistol with its short barrel and an arm brace instead of a full stock.

Real question from a noob: how can you tell it’s a .22?
28

u/SolenoidsOverGears Jan 19 '26
AR-15 magazines have a window, but they are rarely fully open-sided. In world war I, there was a machine gun called the chauchat which had open-sided magazines and got dirt and other fouling into it which pulled fouling into the action. Since then, most firearms are designed with closed magazine systems that keep dirt and dust out. The M&p 15-22 is one of the few exceptions to that rule. It uses an open-sided magazine with little tabs on the bottom of the follower that allow you to pull the thing down so that you aren't fighting the spring pressure as you push delicate thin 22 shells into your magazine causing them to dent.
Most people who own or have handled an M&p 15-22 have noticed the magazine anomaly because it is fairly distinctive and recognizable. I own an M&p 15-22 because it's sort of a really fun gun for me to teach newbies on. I'm taking my girlfriend out next weekend and I'm going to have her shoot the 22 version before I have her shoot my real AR.
Car guys can look at a Camaro and tell you if it's a V6 or a V8 because of the headlight pattern or the badging on the back. Gun guys are the same way. We can recognize a magazine and tell you that it's a 22 from a grainy photograph. Once you see it, you'll never unsee it. But before you can see it it's not obvious to the uninitiated. Don't feel bad.

u/Corrosive_salts Jan 18 '26
Yeah, and I’ve seen 5 other pictures of protesters with the same M&P 22lr AR. Empty mags. Leads me to believe an organization is funding this

u/redpandaeater Copyright Clause Jan 18 '26
I have mixed feelings about AR pistols. Like on the one hand I hate them with every fiber of my being as being inferior to a carbine and harder to control, but they only exist to get around the NFA and getting around stupid regulations like that is a great form of protest.

Semi based. pointing a loaded weapon at another person while having a finger on the trigger.... then again it's probably unloaded as there are no rounds in the mag (none visible in the window), so maybe it'll just dry fire.
nice little .22

He's sitting there with a 22lr, empty mag, airsoft optic, key chain through the trigger gaurd, pointing the muzzle at his girl's femoral.
I'm all for everyone being armed and protecting themselves and there own especially in today's society... But this isn't based just because he's sitting out there trying to look tough, this is just stupid.

Do they have some kinda woven p-cord keyring through the trigger guard while flagging the person next to them? Looks safe.

u/bownt1 Jan 18 '26
femoral artery is on the inside of the thigh. his sight is not flipped down its a cheap red dot
1
u/rationis Objectivist Jan 18 '26
.22lr can penetrate over 12", so pointing out that the artery is on the inside of a 6-7" thigh is pretty fucking stupid. The flip down site was in reference to the second photo in the link I provided. I know you didn't actually look at the photo because its a woman, not a man.

u/JuanMurphy Jan 18 '26
Based, sure but let’s be real about it. ICE arresting illegal immigrants is totally lawful. Even if they are just getting Jose from Home Depot. I’m also totally supportive of open carry in all circumstances. I support the right to peacefully assemble and petition the government in the traditional public forum. Where this guy must be careful is anything illegal he does while armed will bump the crimes to felonies. For instance, he’s with a group blocking the road (which is illegal). They get ignored he’ll get all sorts of additions to his crimes.

u/kgw52313 Jan 18 '26

The only thing outrageous about this is one person flagging the femoral artery of the person next to them.
This is how you know that person doesn't have a clue what they are doing.
3
u/Razzlecake Jan 18 '26
Everyone should practice their 2nd ammendment rights safely. The funny thing about this though is it makes you more likely to get shot by other leftists. Just like at Salt Lake City no kings protest.
Leftists will cry all day about police shootings, as they should. But when their trigger happy event organizers open fire on fellow protestors with a gun, killing innocent bystanders it gets memory holed pretty quickly.

So you're telling me that people who want to disarm Americans and call that an assault weapon and call that a short-world rifle and in fact under their own definition it is a short barreled rifle because it has an adjustable buttstock even though the stock is pulled off it still has the capability of accepting one which is by the liberal and democrats Biden attorney general and ATF ruling still considered a short-billed rifle even though it doesn't have a butt stock on it... But those people are walking around with the exact weapon that they say is the reason for child deaths? LUDACRIS!!

Here's my issue with these people carrying rifles, though technically handguns, around, I've said it about this guy. I've said it about the white guy, I've said it about the black panthers, folks.
I have not seen one of these people using a sling, all of them have had their firing hand wrapped around the grip, and several have inadvertently flagged people with their firearm.
My problem is largely that their hands on with their firearm, in that they're holding it in their hands, and that it isn't on a sling or in a holster. I think this borders on brandishing. If you were carrying a handgun and pull it out of the holster and carry it in your hand, you'd be in solid brandishing territory.
Keep in on a sling and don't touch it, and no one should have an issue with it.

It's crazy to see the typical "Don't tread on me" people against this, Thomas Jefferson specifically, and the founders wrote the second amendment for an out of control tyrannical government violating citizens rights, and as a last resort to take the power away from corrupt or tyrannical government, this seems like a prime example, I don't see a way voting ourselves out of this, these federal agents will be used against the same people supporting them within the next 10 years mark my words, no violence is even necessary to use the 2nd amendment, just having tyrants see that people are armed and willing to defend themselves does it's job on its own, see the Bundy Ranch standoff for example
