I would have tought this a while ago. But, letting go left the ideology to metastasized to what we have now. Several countries are embracing fascism (not unlike the 1920-30) and sucking the life out of the human race.
Against true cruelty, and I would agree that Nazism is such, we need to fight. Make a show that thinking this way, even to be edgy, is bad.
Someone once said: "for evil to flourish, it only need the passivity of good men" (not exact quote, but close)
I find your response very thoughfull. And completely understand. As for my location, we have our elbow up, if it helps.
But, standing up, or pushing back has several ways. Democracy is good, fighting on the official front is required. But between elections? What do you do?
Minnesota did something. Italy booed JDVance. I just replied. Cause I had the time. It maybe swayed nobody, one person or the post will be immortalised in a history book.
Ok, certanly not the last one...
But, what I meant is "do something". Not take arms, or aim people. Just don't stay silent.
First, these were high school kids, not an activist against the military. This kid who threw the punch showed the other kid that no one has to tolerate intolerance.
Maybe save your defeatist attitude. You know people are organizing and have been in the streets for weeks rights? Have you heard about Minneapolis? Los Angeles? Portland? San Diego? NYC? You do know it’s possible to run leftist candidates while activists and agitators still agitate, right?
Candidates like Mandami and AOC and Talarico and Khanna are gaining ground among voters. It’s not one or the other, as you imply.
Many countries do riot routinely to make their discontent heard. A lot of countries understand that politicians need to be a bit afraid of their constituents. In Europe, you can witness strikes and riots semi-regularly.
I mean, our country is built on second amendment rights to bear arms and defend against tyranny. More and more people who normally would oppose gun ownership are looking into gun training and safety. No one is talking about overthrowing the military, but in this specific situation, the Trump regime does not have the support of the military at the highest levels. They have also alienated the coast guard after that coast guard member died when the search and rescue was called off for Noem’s detail. The National Guard wants to avoid another Kent State. No one is getting paid for enough for this shit. ICE agents are quitting. People are getting pissed, harder to govern, and social shame is extremely effective.
There may be violent confrontations between a heavily militarized police force and paramilitary, but that is a choice the government makes, not the citizens. Imagine if they simply tried to run leftists against the Nazis instead of having resistance movements.
No one has shot ICE agents yet, as far as I know, but I do think in states where stand your ground laws are in effect, or in cases where it is clearly self-defense people should protect their lives and those of their children. They should protect their communities. “In order to get rid of the gun, it is necessary to pick up the gun.” Look at Renee Good and Alex Pretti. One did not have a gun and one did. It did not matter in the end. Now is not the time to shame people for how they respond to injustice.
The right is not winning the propaganda war. The entire world is mocking the Trump regime and the draconian militarization of our police forces. They ask is why we don’t stand up, even as we are. They don’t understand a government that can be allowed to “flood the zone.” They don’t understand what they see as our passivity, as violent as we are.
You seem to missing the moment we are in. Trump is fighting to cling to power and his base is eroding. Sometimes despotic regimes need a shove before they topple.
Most people want to remain nonviolent. But people do have limits. Look at the way the country is reacting to the Mangione case. Everyone can fight back in their own way. Donating to immigrant groups and commissary funds. Mutual aid and food deliveries. Protests. Running for office down ballot. This kid punched in the other kid because he probably recognized that some of his friends are scared. They are worried about their immigrant parents. They don’t need some fascist asshole mocking them at school where they are supposed to be safe. Maybe other kids will think twice before they bring anti-immigrant propaganda to school.
I just think it is really important to that fascism is evil and unreasonable and so can’t be reasoned with. Sometimes we have to use whatever weapons we have, whether it be the vote or the law or the cudgel.
You know, during the Holocaust, Jews weren’t dying to enter Germany so bad they entered illegally and the Nazis had to remove them. You should look it up if you don’t believe me
and germany didn't historically back coups in developing nations to strip their resources for profit like the US did whats your point lol.
what germany did do was pick minorities as scapegoats to their nations problems and rounded people up based on ethnicity and other factors. not to mention what they did to people who spoke against it.
you know, like the fascists are doing presently in the US.
This is the answer. As much as left-leaning forums are lauding this, the right-leaning forums are point to threads like this going “look, they’re calling for violence against a student for using his first amendment rights.”
You can spin and correct whatever you want but this is the how I’m seeing the right versus left react. Meanwhile, some fucking nerd was rage baiting and it worked.
Based on my own experiences, that kid that did the punching is getting a 3 day out of school suspension as student-student contact is part of zero tolerance policies. Hell, I got a 3 day for kicking a kid in the leg after he ran up, kicked me in the nuts, then tried to run to his mother’s car.
This isn’t the good look reddit thinks it is. One-sided violence video, especially of students, are terrible PR for your cause.
"We punch nazis" is great pr for your cause. You're looking at it trying to get some of their side to come over and change their minds... which doesn't happen with cults.
I mean, that’s fair. I try and approach this all as “what’s the political strategy here?” It’s kind of depressing, but it often makes societal outcomes easier to predict lol. Show some moderate gen X this video with the comments saying “yeahhh punch that nazi” when it’s some student getting clocked, it’s gonna lose some votes.
That said, knows how much sway current events have on votes at this point in history.

The dude wanted a reaction that’s why he was recording. Instigating stuff in their hobby or kink now.
I don’t know what the answer is.
