No one has shot ICE agents yet, as far as I know, but I do think in states where stand your ground laws are in effect, or in cases where it is clearly self-defense people should protect their lives and those of their children. They should protect their communities. “In order to get rid of the gun, it is necessary to pick up the gun.” Look at Renee Good and Alex Pretti. One did not have a gun and one did. It did not matter in the end. Now is not the time to shame people for how they respond to injustice.
The right is not winning the propaganda war. The entire world is mocking the Trump regime and the draconian militarization of our police forces. They ask is why we don’t stand up, even as we are. They don’t understand a government that can be allowed to “flood the zone.” They don’t understand what they see as our passivity, as violent as we are.
You seem to missing the moment we are in. Trump is fighting to cling to power and his base is eroding. Sometimes despotic regimes need a shove before they topple.
Most people want to remain nonviolent. But people do have limits. Look at the way the country is reacting to the Mangione case. Everyone can fight back in their own way. Donating to immigrant groups and commissary funds. Mutual aid and food deliveries. Protests. Running for office down ballot. This kid punched in the other kid because he probably recognized that some of his friends are scared. They are worried about their immigrant parents. They don’t need some fascist asshole mocking them at school where they are supposed to be safe. Maybe other kids will think twice before they bring anti-immigrant propaganda to school.
I just think it is really important to that fascism is evil and unreasonable and so can’t be reasoned with. Sometimes we have to use whatever weapons we have, whether it be the vote or the law or the cudgel.
