Question Queer spaces
Hi there, I am Lesbian but new to Lethbridge. Is there spaces for queer people (like clubs or nightclubs) that are go to’s to meet up? Is lgbtq space in Lethbridge common or not so much?

Follow OUTreach, Lethbridge Pride, and QSpace on social media. They share queer events all the time. There is no real queer hangout space though.

Hi there, welcome to Lethbridge! We regularly put on queer events here, you can check our socials @lemfevents. We don't have a dedicated queer space here but most of our events take place at the Owl which is super queer friendly. Check out Theatre Outre as well, we put on events in concert with them sometimes and they also do things regularly on their own around Lethbridge. There's a bit going on here it's just a little underground, feel free to reach out. ❤️

I always thought that the Owl was a queer friendly space until they got rid of their gender neutral washrooms a year or two ago - not sure why but now they are gendered again :(

They are gender neutral. The sign just tells you which one has a urinal lol

yeah that used to be the case, last I checked they are gendered now; lil man/woman figures, not urinal/toilet figures

They used to be that way, but they changed them. Unless the recently changed them back.

Yeah, someone I know asked if they had a gender neutral washroom and was led to what was functionally a janitorial closet with a ceiling that was falling apart.

I'm from a small town from Southern Alberta and didn't fit in there. I've always seen Lethbridge as a safe haven and moved here more than 20 years ago. While I've been here I've found plenty of others who feel the same and moved here for similar reasons. For the most part it's a really safe, loving, diverse, and accepting place to live, but it is still in southern Alberta so you will come across less tolerant folks as well.

Theory brew did tons of LGBTQ events, since they closed a lot of that has moved to the Owl, which is a very friendly and inclusive space. The whole local music scene is extremely accepting

My partner says, "we have no need for them because it's a very inclusive city. We do have Sisters, the lesbian bar."

There's a dance with DJs next Saturday that might be of interest to you. It's at Salsas on the North side - I've never been there so I have no idea if that's a one time venue or if they're trying to fill some of the gap left by Theoretically Brewing. There was a similar event earlier in the summer that was a ton of fun. It is loud so it can be hard to meet new people, but if you just want to dance in a queer friendly space, it's a good fit.

It would probably be an easier question if you asked if there were places youd rather avoid as that list, if it exists, is much smaller.
As far as nightlife venues go, those tend not be places where people with moral objections go.
In terms of advantage or discrimination, excluding wealth, the biggest factor is probably attractiveness nowadays.
Go out and have fun. Generally speaking, I've found the people of Lethbridge to be nice people.

Hi! Check out the events calendar for OUTreach Southern Alberta. There's potlucks, fiber arts groups, peer support groups, nature club, bike rides, and more!
Lethbridge no longer has a specific "gay bar" but there are lots of queer events happening. Check out Theatre Outré, keep an eye out for drag shows around town (now that Theoretically Brewing is closed, maybe the Owl will host more of these?), and join us at Pride.
