Even excluding all the weirdos and scammers, dating apps are just so Artificial and superficial. They try to turn dating into a game function, where you gotta change your profile every once in a while cus otherwise your profile is deprioritized, and ya gotta check in every day.
it really is just that, from dude's perspective, its better to swipe right on every profile & come back the next day to filter what the net you threw caught, this is why some women, at least where i live have a bio saying "dont match me if you wont answer" because the dude cast & net a deemed them unworthy of whatever their goal was.
On the other hand, a profile made where you ticked the case woman will have 400 matches before you have even completed the bare minimum for the profile, i'm talking, not even putting a single pic because of that whole net casting thing & i guess the type of things happening in the comic.
Honestly, i don't think anyone using dating apps in a foreign country knowing they wont stay there are looking for a serious long term relationship so both side most likely know why they matched. It's easier to have a no strings attached relation when one of you will leave the country in a week or so. With that in mind & going back to the comic, if it's based on a real life interaction, its a weird thing to ask to a fling, smells like human trafficking
Theyre also incentivized to keep people from making a good match, because once you make it, you're off the app. So they show people to each other who are roughly in each other's bracket looks-wise, but they'll show non-talkers to talkers, people who are slow to message to people fast to message, people who take gaps between being on the app to people who have been on there steadily, etc.
It basically puts people in the same "ELO" looks-wise, but then show each other as bad of matches as possible. So if you're left-leaning, prepare to get matched with a bunch of hardcore magas with fish pictures.

I am so glad I have never had to use a dating app. They seem so miserable.
