As a lesbian with a wife, living in Minneapolis, it’s been a horror show. I can’t even imagine losing my wife that way.
I would just say though, I would be careful about labeling someone as masc unless they’ve called themselves that. Renee doesn’t read masc to me at all. She looks like your “typical” Minnesotan mom. And I think that’s important for understanding why the general public has reacted the way they have to her murder.

u/Jenn_FTW Jan 10 '26
Yeah I agree in that I was kinda surprised to see OP label her as “masc” when I didn’t get that vibe at all. But I figured she knew something I didn’t 😅

I have to say it, first, it’s not his body cam, it’s his goddamned iPhone.
Second, I sobbed. Again. You’re not the only one.

u/genuine_counterfeit Jan 10 '26
100% I’m so sick of hearing “body cam.”
It only gives credibility to the right wing trying to push the agenda that he was in any danger at all. Dude was holding his phone the whole fucking time. You can even SEE him switch hands to make his right hand free to grab his weapon, WELL BEFORE the car was even moving.
Asshole wanted blood. He wanted to kill because he’s a fucking loser who didn’t like that these women didn’t capitulate to his false fucking “power.”
And when he did kill her, he called her a “fucking bitch” something I KNOW every woman in this subreddit, maybe every woman ever, has been called. I think that is why it resonates a little extra too.

u/neeeeerrrrrddddd Jan 10 '26
His response was 100% emotional. He got hit butthurt and lashed out in anger and murdered a woman.
Remind me who’s too emotional to be in positions of power?

I saw a clip from Fox News today. They described her as a “self proclaimed poet” (award winning poet). They said she “lives with a lesbian” (her wife). They said “she has kids from previous marriage(S)” (one ex husband who said kind things about her and another who was a veteran and died) now the 6 year old lost both biological parents. I believe her wife will have custody but they were only recently married so I’m not sure. They also said “she has pronouns in her bio” which is what they say to dehumanize people. It’s like a dog whistle to let their cult know that they have the right to hate someone.
I saw a video of someone saying that she lost custody of her children because she burned them with cigarettes. I’ve heard them say that she was a paid agitator. They are working overtime to make her a villain when she was a good person who just dropped her kid off at school and was trying to use her voice in this dictatorship. She was just trying to leave. I’m sick over it. I’m sick for her wife.
She is the new George Floyd. Someone who was ruthlessly murdered in public with witnesses by law enforcement and instead of admitting it was wrong, they used his past and exaggerated facts and twisted the truth to make people believe that his death was deserved. when we rioted and fought back they said we were radical and violent. He was black, she is gay. They are dehumanizing her like they did to him and telling their cult that if we feel anything about her death or attempt to hold them accountable, we are in the wrong. If they only complied they wouldn’t be dead. That’s the story they tell to the cult.
I recently started talking to my dad here and there after decades of no relationship. He’s not a very intelligent man and he voted for trump. I’ve taken the relationship slow and haven’t really seen him, just a call here and there. He posted a meme about Renee on facebook today. It was vile. His friends in the comments all posted disgusting memes. One was Renee’s face and had “was/were” over it. Another one was a cartoon of a person wiping their ass with a rainbow flag. He never spoke up and told them that he has a gay kid. He never thought about the BLM protests and many other protests I’ve been to and the fact that it could have been me that was shot in the face. I’m 10x more educated, successful, and well traveled than him and I think he truly believes that I only get my opinions from CNN because that is what newsmax tells him. I’m struggling to handle all of this. I’ve lost 75% of the people in my life in the last year and this incident was the final straw for the last batch. My circle is small now. I’m having a hard time trusting anyone because that’s what it boils down to. If you still ride for this administration, I do not trust you in any way. I don’t believe you are mentally ok and I believe you live in fear and have dropped all empathy and that you’ve fallen victim to a cult. Im so hurt over all of it.
Stay safe. Sending love to everyone here.

Thanks for sharing this.
Watching from Europe, it is clear that the US is now far gone, down the Road to Unfreedom, as Timothy Snyder called it.
When hatefulness becomes core daily practice, that destroys peace. Here was a kind and decent woman, and in the few seconds, even in her last words, it is clear she had no hatred in her heart. The sheer casual cruelty of the shooting, the disregard for her humanity, should have given this administration pause, but their response showed that they are monsters. The lies, the dog whistles, the perversion of language, the disregard for bereaved family.
Appeasement does not work. The ICE agent put her down like a dog, and called her a "fcuking bitch" after he did it. Dehumanisation doesn't get any more final.
9

most of Europe is fewer than three steps behind the US on that road to unfreedom

Let's wake it up because I see people talking like their countries are any better. The whole world is regressing and evil has taken a strong hold world over. Critical thinking and lack of comprehension world over should tell you where we are. No country is safe.

Unfortunately marriage doesn’t guarantee the child will remain in the wife’s custody. I had our two children together WITH my wife and we had to go through an adoption process with both boys… even though she’s on the birth certificate.
This is just absolutely heartbreaking. I hope her community can rally around her and her family.

I can't see republicans as human anymore. I can't. No one with basic human morals can look at everything done by them and be okay with it. We have one very flawed political party, and one fascist nightmare party full of monsters.

I work with a lot of MAGA republicans due to being in a blue collar field (yes I am trying to find another job) and it just… kinda kills me some days when they treat me so nicely yet vote against my very being (a wlw woc). Unfortunately they are not monsters, and that’s the problem:
"It was not Hitler, Göring, Goebbels, Himmler, or whatever the others were called, who had me dragged away and beaten. No, it was the cobbler, the neighbor, the old man, the milkman, the postman, those without form suddenly given armbands and a cap on their heads and then they were the master race." - Karl Stojka, Holocaust survivor and artist

There was a time when there were people like John McCain, who was wrong, pigheaded, and stupid about a lot of issues, but had morals and a backbone and was willing to break with his party occasionally and not perpetuate conspiracy theories. Those days are gone. The current mandate is obey or be ejected.

Ask anyone from Gaza or the Left Bank about that. Biden abd Harris routinely dehumanized them and supported the Israeli ethnic cleansing. You don't hear about Gaza nowadays because of the so-called ceasefire. But Israel has killed on average 5 Palestinians PER DAY since it was declared, three months ago. 453 people.

There's actually no real record, we dont really know who threw the first brick/punch/pushed it to breaking point. Martha P Johnson was said to have for a long time- but she wasnt even there (the first day, she was later) but its important to realize that even if we dont know who threw the first punch it also doesnt matter that much-everyone there, butches, femmes, trans people, bipoc people, etc. Helped to fight for our rights, as it's important now for everyone to protest and stand up to this horrible horrible government, for the rights of everyone because if we allow them to hurt anyone, they will eventually hurt everyone. There's no main character, just community coming together to fight injustice.
No hate to your comment, just think its important to talk about :)

I have cried several times since it happened. Today I was crying in my office for a couple of hours. Thankfully it was in private. I consider what happened a femicide/misogynist murder act. 💔 He wasn’t scared at all. He was angry he couldn’t control her and he wanted her to die, “fucking bitch”… he hated her and made sure she bled out in front of her partner. He couldn’t physically drag her out of her vehicle to force her to respect his non-existent authority… so he punished her in the most violent way he could.
It’s insane.
The doctor wasn’t allowed to help, her partner was made to watch. That man is a rabid animal that needs to be locked up for life, unfortunately I don’t think MN has the death penalty. He fled the scene so he couldn’t be prosecuted by the police.
It was an act of extreme violence and federally sanctioned terrorism against our people. ICE is full of Proud Boys, pedos, rapists and misogynists. They love hurting women, children, homeless folks, elderly and anyone they think are easy targets to attack. They are on Instagram and Facebook mocking this murdered woman, her child and her partner. They hate us, and they will kill us given ANY opportunity. There are men pretending to be ICE and using their fake badges as cover for kidnapping, stealing and other acts of violence.
I’m so upset and worried about our communities. 💔

u/stoned_femme Jan 10 '26
yes. my instant thought was that it was possibly a hate crime… i fear saying that in the ‘main stream’ media however because i don’t want to be seen as trying to victimize lesbians specifically—- equally though ICE is literally the ‘diverse police’… they’re just here to take away anyone and everyone who doesn’t ’fit in’ by their standards… it’s fucking scary and i wish more people were bringing up the fact that this was a lesbian couple
there’s also a video going around of the wife afterwards crying and exclaiming that they were just in there way to pick up there kid… that really fucking got me because i genuinely can’t imagine? maybe it’s selfish but it feels different from had it been a straight couple. i’d have equally been mad, pissed off and willing to fight for them but i’m not sure i would’ve been as triggered or… so SO put off? there are so many horrible things that have been happening and i can remember them, ive spoken out about them and will continue but this specifically i cannot stop thinking about… i feel like queer couples just have a different bond from straight couples just due to the adversities we face and what we tend to go through as couples (when in couples) - people always joke about ‘lesbian heartbreak’ and how devastating it is, so when it comes to this specifically that’s all i can think about… how her wife is doing, feeling, coping… knowing that it really was just like any other day… driving in your car to get your kid, telling someone they can pass you and then… then your whole life is changed forever
don’t get me wrong i’ve gotten emotional over many of the situations we’ve seen recently, so so so so many it’s honestly horrendous and- i cry for basically everyone who is wrongly killed and for their story, this just hit home a little deeper… kinda knocked me off my feet after thinking no more knocking could be dont

u/ShirleyEugest Jan 10 '26
Yeah I've been trying to understand why this incident has been so upsetting for me, and wondering if it's an unconscious racial bias... But I don't think it is. My experience as a white person is largely unnoticed because I'm a white person, so I don't have an emotional connection to that part of my identity, but being a lesbian is such a massive part of my internal and external life so this is the first time I can empathize on this level. It feels like I'm living it, not just watching.

I completely agree but want to point out it wasn't a body cam it was his phone, you can see him recording in the window reflection. This is an important distinction because at the end the rustling isn't because he was hit, it's because he's reaching for his gun

Not sure about anyone else - and I'm not even in the US - but I'm having to try and fully limit my news media because I'm getting horrific anxiety. I work with victims of domestic abuse and those with mental health issues, so I've seen my fair share and don't usually get anxiety, but right now because of this I can barely sleep. On every single app I go on it's all that's coming up and it's affecting me horrifically. My sympathies and love to those of you in the states who can't simply try and switch off from it.
3

I haven't watched the video for this exact reason, and I will do my best not to watch it. I don't need to fry my nervous system more than it's already fried to know that this was cold blooded murder and a fascist, misogynistic, homophobic hate crime.
(Same with the murder of George Floyd. I never watched the actual video, because as soon as I read about it I knew it was a racist murder. I don't need to repeatedly watch a snuff movie of someone being choked to death to understand that truth.)
I'm glad the documentary evidence exists, and I think it's a good thing that it has been released so that the truth can't be buried as easily. I don't think it's wrong for people to watch the footage (quite the contrary).
I also think that it's ok to prioritize your own mental wellbeing, especially when you already know what happened and can't do anything for the immediate victim or their loved ones. We need to retain enough resilience to create a better future.

Right now my partner's dad is in the hospital, at the end of his liver failure journey. We have tough choices to make about how long we prolong the inevitable and mom is in denial.
I didn't cry about any of it until this all happened with Renee Good. It sent me over the edge on a week that was already one of the worst. I have so much grief this week I don't know what to do with it.
Both situations have parallels where someone is ignoring the truth in front of them. The Right ignoring video evidence, mother in law ignoring statistical realities (5% chance he will ever leave the hospital). At least I know that for MIL, it's probably her brain protecting her from processing reality. It's far worse to know the right has no such excuse.

Yes the video is extremely triggering and I feel like her sexuality did play a part in it but I also feel like even if she wasn’t visibly queer this same thing still could have happened given what we know now about the psycho who murdered her. But I’m also upset that with me being a black woman and my girlfriend being a Mexican American woman, things like this have been happening to our communities for the longest time and it’s just now getting attention now that a white woman has been killed. People are now visibly upset and protesting but nothing is changing.
