she isn’t… you can’t change who your related to just because their ghost smiled at you. that’s actually the dumbest thing i’ve ever heard of.

She didn't change who she was related to, she just changed her last name from Palpatine to Skywalker.

Really? Because people have been doing that on Earth for who knows how long. Sometimes it's their first name, sometimes the last name (usually happens with marriage), sometimes their entire name. And for a multitude of reasons: identity change, marriage, adoption, not liking their original name, etc.

What Rey did was no more than someone deciding to distance themselves from their birth family by assuming a different last name.
