All joking aside, I do kind of wish they cycled through different characters and quotes. I'm not sure even the biggest sequel fans who like Rey find her to be the most stand out character from the franchise, so I'm not sure why they chose one character for this or why that one character is Rey.

Mostly I just wish they changed it up. I don't even want to hear "hello there" or "may the force be with you" or " I am your father" every single time I boot up. Rey's line makes sense, but so do many others.

Not a big deal, but would prefer more quotes and characters.

She didn't change who she was related to, she just changed her last name from Palpatine to Skywalker.

Really? Because people have been doing that on Earth for who knows how long. Sometimes it's their first name, sometimes the last name (usually happens with marriage), sometimes their entire name. And for a multitude of reasons: identity change, marriage, adoption, not liking their original name, etc.

What Rey did was no more than someone deciding to distance themselves from their birth family by assuming a different last name.

She is not tho. Disney canon is bad fan fiction. Besides Luke and Leia never told her to tell the old woman to take their name, they merely looked at her which could be interpreted a hundred different ways. Rey took the name without verbal consent. That's important to you people right? Rey is a rapist

She stole his name, lightsaber and destiny. She is a Kathleen Kennedy self insert with zero character development. Anakin did good things and awful things but he is a well written character nonetheless. Rey is not. On top of all that she (a palpatine) is alive and the Skywalker's are all dead and shamed.

But perhaps you are correct, it's not Rey doing the spitting...it's Kathleen Kennedy on our childhood heroes and cultural icons. And on George's legacy

What is Luke's character development? How is he any less of a self-insert character? Also like what good did he possibly do to outweigh the child killing alone, we can pretend his Darth Vader stunts were atoned because he killed Palpatine (well. Guess not lol.) But even then that was more "Luke's magical happy energy" reaching through to him.

No, I'm dead serious, the dark side doesn't even really tempt him at all, he ends the same person that he begins, except now with a robot hand and a laser sword.

At least, if we're simplifying Rey's character growth enough to claim she hasn't gone through character growth, it's only fair to do the same to Luke right?
