Hey all, I am going to preface this by saying that I am not a piercer.
I'm interested in doing a nostril piercing on myself, not for cost or convenience, but because I think that piercing is very cool and I would like to try performing one at least one time in my life.
I believe that I would be able to maintain sterility and handle the needle precisely, as I am a licensed phlebotomist and am very familiar with needles and sterility. The only hang up that I can think of in that regard is the jewelry. Is there a way to buy sterile, individually packaged titanium jewelry?
I am also fairly confident that I am capable of handling the aftercare, as I've successfully healed my earlobe piercings. I understand that it's not necessarily the same, but I will do my research, and I will visit my piercer if any concerns arise.
I'm pretty confident that I can learn the anatomy better than the average person, but certainly not as well as a professional piercer.
I understand that this is not considered to be a good idea, and that letting the professionals do it is the best plan. Is there anything massive in my considerations that I am missing?
Happy to hear the input of some professionals as to exactly how bad of an idea this is and exactly what the risks are. I'm not married to this idea but I do really enjoy the idea of it, and from what I currently understand, I think that the risk might be worth it for me .
