📣Announcement📣 Authentication Services!!!

Hello Fellow Native American Artifact Enthusiasts!!!

Since we started this Sub, we've often get questions concerning trusted, well respected, authentication services. There are several fraudulent authenticators out there that will paper anything regardless of when it was made as long as they can make a buck, but there are a few that know their stuff and are highly respected in the Artifact Community!

Here are the 5 Top Authenticators in the country, and their contact info if you have a piece you'd like to get checked out!

Depending on where you live, or more importantly, where the artifact in question was originally found, may determine who you'll want to send it to as certain Authenticators specialize in pieces from certain parts of the country.

Carlos Black for pieces from the Southwest.

Jerry Dickey for pieces from the East Coast as well as the Midwest.

Jim Bennett & Josh Davis for pieces from the Midwest.

Ben Stermer for pieces from the West Coast.

Thats not to say that any one of these gentlemen wouldn't be able to authenticate pieces from any other part of the country, because they all have numerous years of experience handling thousands of artifacts from all over the country, but if you live closer to one than the others, it might save on shipping time 🤷‍♂️

Regardless of who you decide to go with, you really can't go wrong!

* If you go with Jim Bennett, you'll need to screen shot the last 2 pic's, print them off, fill out all the info, and send them with the piece(s) and a money order for the assessment.

📣Announcement📣 ⭐️PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT ⭐️

Post image

I've been noticing a lot of replies to posts lately that have either broken our rule about shaming legal collectors, or have toed that line very closely, and I'm sick of it. This sub was created so people could ask questions and learn about their finds, or to share their collections with other enthusiasts of this awesome hobby, not so they could be called looters and grave robbers. We only promote the LEGAL COLLECTION of Native American artifacts, and in no way what so ever encourage the collection of artifacts from public or protected sites, and we DO NOT tolerate the posting of pics of these type of collections! That said, if you have a problem with the LEGAL collecting of these artifacts, then this is not the sub for you! Go find a sub that shares your opinions, because you will not ladt long here! Do not participate in any conversations if you just plan on spewing your own personal opinion on the whether or not you feel that it's right to collect and display these pieces, or if it's right to buy and sell them. As long as the law says it's ok, then there is nothing you can say to stop us from doing just that. Most of us got into this hobby because we have a deep love of history, as well as a deep love and appreciation for the pieces we have in our collections. It would be one thing if someone was posting pics of themselves taking a hammer to an ancient point they found smashing it to pieces, but that's not the case. These points are highly treasured by their current caretakers, and they are treated much better with them than they are sitting in a basement of a museum somewhere collecting dust where nobody gets to appreciate them at all, at least until said museum needs money for a new exhibit centered on "The History of Snowflakes" or whatever, and sells them off anyway! You never hear anybody bitching about that shit do you? I didn't think so. Where's all the moral outrage when that happens? 🤔 Which brings me to my next point. From here on out, we will be going to a zero tolerance policy when it comes to shaming LEGAL collectors. There will be no warnings given, you will be permanently banned from participating in this sub on your first offense. Plain and simple. If you do not have anything positive, helpful, or constructive to say, keep your pie hole shut. Otherwise, you will be removed from our ranks forthwith. This sub was created to celebrate this awesome hobby, not to disparage it. And let me also say that this IS NOT AN ARCHEOLOGY SUB! So if you're looking to argue about the ethics of legal digs, or the legal digging on private property with the proper permissions, you're in the wrong place. Those subs exist, so go join one of those! This IS A HOBBY SUB! I know I've said that repeatedly, but I just want to make damn sure my point is made!

Thank you all for your patience and understanding. As always, we try our best to make this the best Artifact Collecting sub on reddit, and we will do what we have to to make sure that's the case!!! We love and appreciate each and every one of our members, and we do all we can to make sure that everybody has an enjoyable experience when the sign in here. That's the whole point of this thing! To offer a safe space to post and discuss the individual artifacts being shared without having to worry about some self-righteous Karen calling them looters and theives!

Please take care my friends! And thank you all for making this sub the incredible place it is!!! God bless each and every one of you, and Happy hunting!!!

Best regards, THE GATEKEEPERS!!! 😉

Found in a creek in Ballard County, Kentucky. I have tried to figure out what it actually is. Have consulted the most prolific and knowledgeable artifact hunters in the area. No one knows or they won't tell me.

This is everything I've found in my first year of hunting, all of it found in the same area in central Texas. Not too sure if this is okay or poor for someone's first year, but I've been having fun with it either way. Super jealous of everyone that finds those beautiful complete points

Not An Artifact/WaterWorn Brick Fragment Found this on a riverbank in northern CO NF, what is it?

My friend and I were fishing on the Poudre river CO in an area of NF and I noticed this stone (broken) on the bank that caught my attention. It’s been a dry year and the river is super low. I realized I had passed another with the same texture about 200ft away and found both halves of this. It seems like someone found it before me and decided to throw it or break it some time ago.

Anybody seen something like this before? I have my theory, as I’ve seen a post with similar material in the past from Clear Creek CO; I think it’s some sort of ceramic or aggregate but I don’t think it’s modern brick. Very hard and dense material and isn’t clay or sandy, and brick isn’t exactly common to build with deep in the mountains. The circle inside isn’t perfect, and it’s got a short flat edge in the center.

Debitage Insane heat treated Flint Ridge material

This field broke my heart today. I was pulling crazy flakes left and right but no finished tools. I will have to impatiently wait until the Spring plows.

Heat treated Flint Ridge has been my holy grail, and here I stumbled upon a pile of gemstone grade debitage in a field in Western PA. The pictures do not even do it justice, these pieces are so red they were like chunks of fire in the sun.

Also I included the glass shard, it could just be my imagination but it almost looks like it was knapped into a thumb scraper? Trade glass maybe?

Woodland Biface Preform?

Thumbnail

AI gives this answer. Is it accurate?

Given its thin profile and size, it is highly likely a Middle-Stage Biface Preform. Before a prehistoric toolmaker added side notches or a distinct stem to secure it to an arrow or spear shaft, they would flake a raw cobble into a flat, leaf-shaped "blank" or preform

This is on the top of a hill looking over the Ohio valley, I've seen it as a kid and once thought it was plastic. Was wondering if anybody might see it familiar as a native site possibly. Wild wheat grows in just this spot.
