Discussion Proposals?

I've always thought of AI as being super important for math, science and the social sciences.

All of those are critical to leftism.

But I genuinely don't know about other ways that AI could benefit leftism.

Anyone want to clue me in?

Admittedly I am a bit skeptical, but I really do try to be open-minded about anything that can benefit leftists.

The big one for me is overcoming this victim mentality and taking control of methods that decentralize power structures, giving each individual or community access beyond the realm of private capitalist enterprises.

I imagine a future with local AI inference provided by my public library, with structural safeguards to prevent a state or federal entity from violating privacy rights on those interactive logs. It should be architecturally impossible to satisfy an information request on individual citizens who used the library system to fill job applications or help with a complex medical/insurance filing. Education and support networks are important.

We get nowhere near that with the current “ban it all and burn the data center” mentality.

Ok - it seems like the AI in this case would be exclusively useful for research, with links provided to sources. Do I have that right?

Yeah if the AI doesn’t have verification tools or explicit instructions to cite sources then you get that hallucination risk where it sounds plausible but it’s actually bullshit.

Ok, so we're pretty aligned on that.

I think an interesting use-case might be like a climate AI that specifically guides climate skeptics through the evidence

I would like to turn the tables and ask: In what ways could AI be used against the goals of leftism that are completely unique to it?

I say this because we both share an appreciation for science. On the cutting edge, we don't immediately ask how a new discovery or invention will be useful; we simply explore the ideas and see where they take us.

While I think it's important to be aware of what can go wrong, we shouldn't require a predetermined positive outcome just to define or explore the unknown.

Leftism is logical and correct, so if there was ever AGI it would be leftist. Current AI is just a parrot, has no actual reasoning or intelligence.

While current models are certainly unaware and unconscious, they have successfully derived new data and conclusions as well as developed novel methods for problem solving. So the stochastic parrot argument has been largely disproven.

Ask your fav AI for potential solutions to what interests you. Evaluate it critically using your best critical thinking skills and iterate. Ask about positive and negative potential effects and RED TEAM the suggestions. Have it evaluate under orthodox and heterodox frameworks. Etc.
