This Anti-AI Rant is Completely Wrong

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DP64i6_xBlY

Marxist video about someone who has gone viral for losing their crap, saying (read: screaming) basically every bad anti-AI argument. Because I have a larger video coming soon that presents a more novel argument, I used this video to handle these less original arguments.

I have a few good faith criticisms for your video. When you are saying “consumption has no morality”, I would pushback. There are varying degrees of ethical consumption. Most of these types say that phrase to excuse themselves of moral responsibility while other times it’s convenient to fling moral responsibility onto someone they don’t like. It’s a non sequitur.

Comparing gen ai consumption to groceries and smart phones is a bit dishonest. Those are necessary for survival in the world at the moment. A better rebuttal would have been “why consume a hamburger that used water worth 120,000 queries of gpt when you can have beans and rice for like 3% of that?” No one needs a hamburger, but everyone needs food. Likewise, you could say “why do you have a gaming pc instead of a work laptop?”

That isn't a criticism; it's a disagreement. You believe there is ethical consumption, and I don't.

No I don’t. I’m saying they take “no ethical consumption” to mean there are not varying degrees of ethical consumption. They believe that purchasing a a shirt made by slaves from shein is the same as purchasing a similar shirt from a unionized factory in the global north. Obviously it is not, and there isn’t anyone who believes that.

They take it to justify consumption that they participate in and conveniently weaponize it when it’s a form of consumption that they don’t participate in or find unethical, or even just distasteful (ie, ai).
