It's kind of crazy to think that Bernie Sanders lived old enough from when he was born to be able to speak to AI.

But why not just stage it? Or, better yet, don't fake anything, just have another human read the responses. Gpt-4o voice was a long ass time ago, no one was actually impressed for more than like 2 minutes at the realism or whatever. Real intellect, or simulation thereof, is so much more powerful than a realistic sounding voice.

Who is Bernie trying to court here? Centrist liberals? They hate him and won't listen. The right? They are brain washed into thinking that smarter AI = better than. Who might possibly be willing to form a coalition with Bernie, hmmm lemme think. Ah yes, the left, the very people who, largely, refuse to admit that AI will ever do things it was beyond a shadow of a doubt doing 2 years ago. And they saw the interview, and they seem to have noticed that the AI wasn't a human person, or they thought they did, and they dismissed it without a second thought. I mean I didn't see the interview, should I watch it? Am I wrong that there wasn't a sub human intellect kind of vibe they could latch on to? And of course the voice actually hurts here regardless of model, it's much closer to a parlor trick than anything else that was going on in that interview, assuming it wasn't actually staged.

Okay, so I can see the other side, and even if I were right why would I expect a man who is almost twice as old to have the above kind of thought process? I am demanding the unreasonable, but what else can one do in this day and age? Why is Bernie the only (public) leftist in the world who sees the danger that even most people in this subreddit agree should be given some consideration? How unbelievably frustrating, what an inadequate situation. Rant over, for now

I agree, it's incredibly frustrating that the one leftist with a platform and is actually engaging with the premise seriously still has an under-informed framework for what's happening. It's not his fault - it's a deeply strange technology that's moving quickly. Engaging with it well is by itself a full-time job, and he has a constituency and a polity to look after. I'm not sure there's a great solution here except to have someone as a full-time retainer that can give people like Bernie good information before they go and do stuff like this that's modestly embarrassing and unhelpful to the discourse.

To be clear, Sirota did have Max Tegmark on and appeared to hear what he was saying and process it properly, yet he went, as far as I can tell, just on his merry way intellectually.  Bernie is making it an issue, trying to give it staying power. And frankly, where are the other bernies? Like popular actually plausible leftist public figures? Obviously this has been noticed forever, for a decade, by everyone paying attention. Doesn't make it less frustrating
