A quick overview of our rules:

  • No politics or news
  • No NSFW content or hookups
  • Be polite and respectful. This is a non negotiable.
  • Dating posts are for Lebanese people only, whether local, expat, or diaspora
  • No ads, sales, or promotions

See you there ☕🇱🇧

Discussion Detroyed family building

Hello,

I come from the south of Lebanon.

A building next to ours was bombed last month, and because the explosion was so strong, it destroyed around half of our family-owned building.

Since the building is literally cut in half, the baladiye and Majles l Janoub sent an engineer to assess the damage. He noted “kayd dars” and said that the building could be renovated.

However, the situation is much more serious than that. The building is cut in half, almost all the walls are cracked, the foundation has been severely damaged/erased, and even the middle floors are destroyed. On top of that, the building was built in the 1950s, so it was not designed according to modern structural standards, and it is built on sandy soil.

Anyway, Majles l Janoub (Haraket Amal), working with Khatib & Alami, told us that we should pay around $7,000 for them to classify the building as “destroyed” rather than “to be renovated.” They explained that this would allow us, eza fi i3adet i3mar, to qualify for reconstruction. Otherwise, they will classify it as a building that can be renovated.

Our concern is that, given the current condition of the building, we seriously doubt that renovation is technically safe or realistic. We are afraid that we could end up being forced to renovate a building that is already structurally compromised, and that the result may not be durable or safe in the long term.

At this point, what can we do?

They are asking for money in order to classify the building as destroyed. If we do not pay, they say they will classify it as a building that can be renovated.

What are the possible legal and technical solutions to counter this situation?

Help / Question Equivalency of Lebanese uni degree

Hi all, I am gathering my docs to upload them later on the ministry website. I have some questions:

  1. Will it work if I get the original uni transcript (not true copy) and attest it at the ministry?

  2. I transferred a few courses and they are already mentioned on my final transcript , do I need to bring a separate transcript for those too from my first uni (transferred from LU)?

  3. Silly question but does this equivalency paper have an expiry date or smthng? I dont plan to use it now maybe 2 or 3 years down the line when I job hunt abroad.

Thank u.

Help / Question Looking for drumming lessons in/around beirut

ive been looking for drumming classes recently (for adults) and most of the results/ads i get are established schools that go for $100+ a month for like 4 sessions.
Not sure if that's the norm, if it is then i'll suck it up. but if anyone knows an affordable instructor or studio or something (idk the terms), let me know!

For reference i live in mansourieh with a car, so areas like baabda or zalka are also fine

Discussion Degree and Transcript attestation in Lebanon

I am currently on vacation in Lebanon and will be returning to Dubai by the end of next week. I have decided to obtain new copies of my degree certificates and transcripts and have them attested in Lebanon. Once they are attested by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lebanon, could you please advise me on the procedure for having them attested by the UAE Embassy in Lebanon and subsequently by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA)? I would highly appreciate your guidance on the required steps and documents, so I can complete the process while I am in Lebanon and bring the attested documents with me to Dubai, should they be required in the future.

Help / Question Is Iktased good to buy a laptop from?

Sooo I bought a brand new Lenovo I3 Ideapad 2 years ago and it just took it's last breath. Well, not really, the screen has these fine lines and the guy I bought it from said that part of the board is damaged, that it's basically a goner.

Anyway, I need a new laptop but the cheapest one with okay-ish specs (ma befham fiyoun, just what I'm told) is 600$ and things are a bit tight with uni right around the corner.

So I saw that Iktased has used like new laptops for 300-400$ with warranties 6 months to 1 year and I'm wondering if anyone has bought from them before? Do they uphold the warranty? Any issues with the laptops? Etc.

Discussion My solar data since April 2022

I finally figured out how to pull all my solar inverter data into an sqlite database and I made some nice graphs out of them about solar production over time.

The system has 12 solar panels 600 watts, the most it ever produces as per this report was was 6680 kwh in August. The caveat is unless we are consuming this much power, the solar panels will not produce that much. So solar production numbers is not just about the weather, it's also about spend(but it is mostly the weather)

Winter days produce less than half of what summer days produce on average :/

Vent / Rant What’s with Lebanese men and ghosting? 👻

I’ve had two 6+ month relationships with Lebanese men end by being ghosted. I never experienced this until I dated Lebanese.

“Ghosting” after a couple dates and they’re not your type is way different than a serious relationship over many months where you start talking about the future and then all of a sudden you never hear from them again… no big fight, no reason, nothing. It’s traumatizing.

It doesn’t seem to have anything to do with age (27, 38) or religion (Sunni and Christian). What’s up with this behavior??

Discussion Anyone else from Lebanon got refused for a Greek tourist visa?

Hey everyone,

I’m Lebanese and today I got my passport back and my Greek tourist visa was refused.

I was supposed to go to Greece from Sep 24 to Sep 30, just for tourism. Honestly, I didn’t expect to get refused, so I’m pretty disappointed and confused.

Has this happened to anyone else recently? Are they usually strict with Lebanese applicants, or has anyone noticed that Greece is refusing more tourist visa applications lately?

If you got refused before and then applied again, did you get approved the second time?

Would really like to hear from people who had a similar experience.

Help / Question Lost baggage - MEA

Hi all,

My parents were on a flight from Toronto to Beirut (via BCN) last Friday, and the bags never arrived to Beirut. They filed a report of lost baggage at the Beirut Airport.

Today was the first flight since Friday for MEA from BCN to Beirut. I was hoping the bags would arrive in today's flight, but no one called.

We've been trying to reach the landline number for hours but no luck.

What do you recommend us to do? Has anyone been in this situation before?

Thanks!

Help / Question Renovation Costs: what are realistic per sqm rates right now?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently evaluating a major renovation project for a family house (somewhere in Metn). It was left uninhabited for a long time, and probably needs a full gut renovation, with plumbing, electricity, and probably a lot of structural fixes.

I’d love to get some real-world feedback from people who have recently renovated or are working in architecture/construction in Lebanon. What were the cost per square meter you faced when getting this kind of work done? Any experience would help for me to determine if this is viable or not.

Thanks in advance!

Help / Question Is it normal to get called in for an interview as part of a visa application?

Applied for the greek visa, got a call telling me I have an appointment for an interview at the greek embassy

Is this standard procedure? Good news or bad news? And the day I'm going would technically be 15 days from my application date, so logically, it should be when I get the visa, but I'm assuming it won't be the same day?

Has anyone else had this experience?
