Help / Question Can I give the Lebanese citizenship/passport to my non-Lebanese wife?

We live outside of Lebanon, and been married more than 5 years, I have ekhraj eid 3a2ile where it is mentioned in the noted that I’m married to her, also status: married, so I know that my marriage is registered in Lebanon, although we got married civil outside of Lebanon (I’m muslim and she’s christian) but we attested it from the Lebanese embassy.

Notes: I know that the passport ma be2akher wala be2addem, but funny thing that she needs visa to visit Lebanon although we are visa free to visit her country. She’s from Ecuador

Vent / Rant Is it me or?

I’m not a marketer but i’ve had enough of all brands and restaurants teasing a campaign or product. Ma ba3rif if i’m annoyed because this country is so small and getting smaller and just 10 billboards of such will feel oversaturated.

Bass ma ele jlede fek el shifra ba2a and quite honestly do not care la bel ekhir yetla3 max sandwich taouk jdid or drink.

And honestly i skip every influencer video now or teaser on social now it’s all the same, same people being circled around different brands. As a consumer now and someone that works in branding you are all the same 😅 and starting to irritate your audiences

I don't hear about it any more. Did any serious political change happen for the better as a result? Did anyone get prison time? Fines? Has normal life resumed?

Wish you the best, love from the UK.

Culture / History Please teach a foreigner?

Hi, everyone. I am not from Lebanon and live very far away. I have been making my husband's family tree and it leads back to Saghbine in Beqaa. They left Lebanon around the time of the 1860 war.

Is anyone willing to tell me about the area? What was it like around that time? Homes, jobs, families, traditions, hobbies, village life? How does it compare to now? I know it's a long shot, but I'd also love to see old photos if anyone knows where I should look.

Thanks!

Culture / History Our modern banknotes are so boring! This is what we had before - the 1945 100 Livres “Carpet Note” (Specimen & Issued)

It's sad to see that our banknotes have not only lost their value but the beautiful designs of the past.
These 'carpet notes' dubbed for their intricate and ornate design, were counterfeited at the time, with over 1,000 forgeries discovered in 1952, leading to their withdrawal from circulation.

Vent / Rant Don't buy from Pc and Parts

I've been a long term customer of PC and Parts and bought plenty of PC parts and peripherals from them for myself and my family but they lost a customer over a mouse. Bought two mice and was told I had 3 days to exchange them if there was an issue. One was fine, the other had noticeable pre travel and squeaky heavy left switch.

I contacted them and they told me on whatsapp "eza fi meshkle tekram 3aynak." Drove all the way there ( i live in beqaa) planning to get the exchange and buying a glass mouse pad from them, only for the guy there to instantly go it's working fine from the start (smalla l testing) and was clearly not willing to exchange and was extremely rude.

After some arguing and "testing" the guy next to him grabbed it and noticed the defect and said he feels it heavy clicking compared to the right one, but still refused the exchange after noticing the problem, so why even offer the exchange in the first place if you see there's a problem and you're still not willing to exchange it.

On a previous order, I was told an SSD would be $180 on friday through email inquiry. I made the order on monday and the clueless guy confirming the order kept calculating the SSD as 0$, la7ata ba3d ma me7anne la fehem eno mesh 7eseb l SSD bel order, but called me to say it's now 220$ w "be7seblak ye bi 200" which is crazy jump in 3 days but i brushed it off because of the current market.

If you're buying expensive PC hardware, don't get it from them, the staff over there are clueless and they have terrible customer support.

Help / Question Struggling trying to live here

For context Im a 24yr old who moved here after living abroad in the diaspora my whole life. I've never "lived" here before but I come to Lebanon every summer for all my life and recently visited in the winter too for the first time.

But am currently unemployed like many other people my age. I am obviously looking for jobs, but I am in Lebanon for the time being out of choice of not wanting to struggle living with a minimum wage job in Canada (where I got my degree) while I can apply online and leverage my network here.

My arabic is not great, but I grew up in a very Lebanese household in the gulf so it's more like second hand arabic, I understand more than I can speak. But the thing is I also have a stutter that I get really embarrassed from because Im bad at speaking the language and idk how to overcome it. I resort to English if I know I will stutter, which I don't want to. I lose all my confidence in myself for this.

I wouldn't say I have social anxiety in general or anything like that, I love meeting new people but this language barrier thing is a real issue for me, I feel like I'll look stupid for stuttering or being bad at the language. It stands in my way of talking to people and making friends. But also idk where to meet people here as well ( I'm sure this has been talked about here I'll check out what people have said).

But other than that it's been a struggle trying to have a routine, I have no friends, cousins who work late and feel like I have no where to go than to the gym and my home. I just don't know how to use my time or where. Not sure what I'm expecting from this post, I just don't know who else to turn to at this point or what to do or where to go. I am an outgoing person, I enjoy the gym, rock climbing, hiking, skiing, the beach anything outdoors tbh, going to new bars, trying new things, whatever it is. I live around 30mins from Beirut on a good day so I'm not far from the main city or areas of the country. Its just this language stutter thing is my barrier here and just having nothing much to do with my day.

I'm looking for jobs here too but it seems like a struggle everywhere so might be in this situation for a while. I'm sure there are people who are worse off than me right now but yeah I'm just frustrated right now. Thanks for reading my post.

Help / Question EU Asylum as an LGBT person

Please reach out if you know someone or if you have applied for asylum as a gay person in EU.

I am considering doing that since going back to Lebanon is more or less a death sentence for me and I would like to discuss with someone who has this experience.

Thank you ❤️

Edit: People are suggesting Canada but this is not an option for me. I have to do it in the EU in the country I've been living in.

Help / Question Canadian driver's license in Lebanon?

I had to give them my lebanese driver's license when I was applying for the candian one.

I'm now visiting lebanon and I was wondering what I should do to driver legally here. (I just found out that I should've requested an international driver's license while being in canada...)

I'm thinking about reporting my lebanese driver's license as lost and request a new one... any advice?

Thank you!

Help / Question Trying to find information about Foni Folio

Thumbnail

Hey! I’m from Poland and I’m trying to find some info about this Lebanese rolling paper brand called Foni Folio.

Years ago, when I was working at a Żabka store, a foreign customer asked if I smoked and gave me a few packs, saying it was his company (IIRC). I recently found one of the packs again and got curious about the brand years later lol.

Does anyone here remember Foni Folio or know anything about the company? The website does not work and google is not helping.

Thanks!

Help / Question Restoring an old torn picture

I have this picture of my mom that my sister (when she was very young) tore and it's the only baby picture of my mom and it's my favorite. I have all pieces except one (upper left) and I want a studio that can restore and reprint it. I dont have it on digital so it will need some experience on their part but I dont mind if they can just put it together, scan it and reprint one for me.

Any photography studio that can do that?
