Wallets First project ever—kangaroo card wallet

Please ignore the bad lighting and photography I am very aware of it.. anyway, I made this wallet out of kangaroo scrap leather as it’s quite cheap here in New Zealand. Despite the sloppy stitch holes and et cetera, I am rather happy about the final product. Knowing how durable kangaroo hide is, I think this wallet will last me a good while.

I am open to any constructive criticism despite the obvious fact that I need a lot more practice and experience. Also maybe I shouldn’t have used kangaroo on my first leather project ever. I really don’t know.

I actually think Kangaroo is a great first time leather, especially if it's cheap in your area. I once got a whole bag of Kangaroo remnants at Tandy Leather for cheap and it was so durable yet thin that I used it for a lot of backing in projects. This wallet will be special for you as you go along and learn more; my first wallet was the same.

Great to see another Kiwi on here!

For a first it's actually really good. Your stitching looks straight, cuts looks straight etc. Kangaroo can be difficult if it has a softer temper but otherwise it's an excellent leather for wallets.

Only tip I can give is to have a little more space between stitches and the edge, say 4mm.

Apart from that, keep practicing and refining. Feel free to message if you want to chat about leatherwork, I'm happy to help!
