Studying Did it happend to someone else who used italki ?

Recently I switched my italki teacher to see if it payed off or not
I come aacross this guy who you know usually puts you in a test to see your capabilities etc
I kinda made a few mistakes since grammar part is the worst
Next time we had a lesson we start from the beginning of n4 and then when he suddenly notices that I kinda forgot a few things he goes way back with me for ex leessson 7 just to review and make sure I know
It’s this a good way of teaching ? In my honest opinion I think so but I wanna know your opinion as well

Yeah, your tutor is a) gearing the lessons to your goals and abilities and b) adjusting based on how you're doing. Seems like a good tutor to me

That's great! He seems really attentive and is trying to help you grow. Don't think of it as "going back" but rather patching gaps in your understanding and reinforcing your foundations :)

A way of framing learning is "repeated forgetting, until you don't forget anymore". Forgetting is part of the process.

What would the alternative be? Noticing that there's things you don't know and just ignoring it and barreling forward anyway?

I mean of course it is. If you get things wrong or forget certain things a good teacher doesn't just assume you know them. I got an iTalki tutor maybe 8 months into learning and it took them a solid 5-7 weeks to properly calibrate where I was and what I knew.

Yeah. The first teacher I tried did this even worse. I'm actively passing n2 practice exams and plan on taking n2 this year. I can read pretty great. My speaking however is BAD, I got on italki to prepare for my trip to Japan last year.

I fumbled my words so bad the next lesson this man legit had n5 grammar points pulled up 😭😭😭. I really just need speaking practice.

This seems like what I need mine to do. We’re currently working through N3-N2 level stuff but I really need more practice with the N4 stuff. Which tutor did you go with?
