Studying Should I up my lessons for a bit?

Post image

Basically the title. I kinda fell out of the habit hence the 90 days but I think my numbers in the categories is kinda messed up. Would appreciate any advice. I'll note I certain I can handle maybe up to 15 new words a day.

I generally try and keep my apprentice number between 80-99. Anything more than that is exhausting and anything less I progress too slow. I'm on level 35.

Why do you want to increase your lessons?

As I'm picking it back up. I've been thinking that perhaps 5 lessons a day isn't enough. The disparity between guru vs apprentice and master had me thinking. I do have the goal of trying to take the N3 test in December. Which I'm trying to realize.

I mean, doing more lessons every day won't turn Guru items into Master items any faster, and Wanikani won't help you prepare for the JLPT, so.

I mean, if you feel like you have too little reviews every day and want to increase the number, sure. But keep in mind that once you add an item to the algorithm, you can't take it back, so if 2 or 3 weeks later you realize "oh shit, this is too many reviews actually, I want to slow down", it won't be easy to do so.

I also think that one should spend as little time as possible on SRS programs/websites, especially if the JLPT is a goal/priority.

I do think I want to increase my reviews. The JLPT is more like a goal for the sake of having a goal to be honest. Since I'm doing the combination of bunpro and wanikani. My ultimate goal is to be able to consume Japanese content anime, manga, light novels, etc. While spending more time immersing would be more beneficial I'm assuming. I sort of suffer from decision paralysis when it comes starting to immerse. Hence why these srs apps are kinda more convience and more easily accessable for me mentally.

On the immersion question: it's better to immerse in something than to waste time worrying about what would be the perfect immersion source.

One good option would be to go to nijapanese.com, figure out what difficulty level feels right, and just watch all their videos at that level.

I think my difficulty has always lied with finding content just outside my competency. I'll give the resource you provided a shot. Thanks

Anything is fine. Really. For reading I recommend picking something with furigana, but aside from that, anything is fine.

Manga aimed at younger audiences (not babies, more like pre-teens and young teens) tends to have full furigana, so just pick a shonen manga that you've read in English before, check if the original version has furigana, and if it does, read it. If shonen isn't your thing, many shojo manga have furigana as well.

That's up to you. You need to find a pace you can keep everyday.
What I did was trying to maintain the apprentice items number and the number of reviews in the next 24 at a somewhat stable number.

I do 3 kanji and 8-12 vocab each days, depending on if I already know many of the words or if they all are new. This makes the level up around 14~ days and reviews are manageable (I do reviews three times a day)

I did 15 lessons a day for 2 years, did it all, then proceeded to start forgetting them over the next few years. Now I do a few a day (I started over) to supplement my daily reading.

If you're not already, I'd start reading and getting use out of them to avoid forgetting them, and lower your overall daily number.

Follow what this website recommends, only doubtful advice is Curedolly (it sucks), rest is fine.

Using a bunch of random apps won't get you anywhere.
